DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS IN CONCERT:
Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have a penchant for tradition, recording their studio albums in analog and insisting on releasing their records on vinyl. The band's traditional approach extends to their beloved live concerts, where craft and musicianship take center stage and marathon sets are the norm. The Truckers may orbit just under the mainstream's radar, but their devoted followers wouldn't have it any other way — as one of the best-kept secrets in music, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their intimate 2014 tour dates in support of English Oceans, their tenth studio album.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1996, the Drive-By Truckers' path to success was slow but steady, aided by a grassroots online presence and their constant touring. Following the release of their first two albums Gangstabilly (1998) and Pizza Deliverance (1999), the band embarked on their first US tour, further added to their reputation as consummate performers with electrifying live sets. 2005's The Dirty South marked the band's first appearance on the Billboard 200, which the band has steadily climbed with each subsequent release. Following the release of their tenth studio album English Oceans in 2014, the band will hit the road for another rollicking tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Once again DBT do not disappoint. This is a band that puts out excellent albums, and a rare occurrence where they are even better live."
"I have seen DBT 30+ times and they always make me look around for the next show! I love their energy and how they play off each other! I have never been to a bad show and this one was no different."
"As always, DBT kept me smiling and singing. Hood and Cooley took turns telling us our favorite yarns, up close and personal."
Took my daughter to see DBT and Deer Tick and we had so much fun! She 11 and absolutely enjoyed herself and that made it all the better!!
This was the fifth time I've seen Drive-By Truckers in the past 20 years -- and one of the best! They are always great, but this show stood out. After having the same lineup for 12+ years now, they've really tightened up as a band -- extra evident since the setlist did not change up much on these Southern Rock Opera Revisited tours. They show a more finesse and polish with the same amazing level of energy and drive. A great, great show!
These guys are super tight. They played my favorite album in order. Great energy and musicianship. Bravo DBT!!!
The Drive By Truckers never disappoint! It's been 6 years since I last saw them and they sound as good as ever! Also loved the new seating at the venue!
They played for 2 and a half hours! Lots of energy and awesome guitar work.
The band was tight.. tight. tight. Great groove. Really enjoyed the show. Venue was perfect for this band! Always enjoy going to the Jefferson! Excellent sound system there and the people there are very cool
DBTs ROCKED! I will see these guys every time they come to my town and twice on Sundays!
Sound mix was horrible... rhythm section muffled and indistinct... electric guitar mix generally overly shrill. Vocals totally lost in the mix so 90% of the words of the songs could be discerned. There was some good guitar playing happening but hard to enjoy with the above issues
This was the third time seeing that and took my 14 year old to his first concert! It was fantastic and what a great venue!
Drive By Truckers were great, good time. The venue was great.
My third time seeing DBT live, and they always deliver. It’s so refreshing to see a pure Rock N Roll band do their thing. Patterson and Cooley swap songs and there’s barely time to breathe from one to the next. I’m a huge DBT fan and every time I see them, I become an even bigger fan. The very best!
Great venue! Sound was good, band was tight! Loved it!
Couldn’t understand more than 30% of the vocals throughout the night.
Yet again, DBT delivered a kick-ass 2.5 hour rock 'n roll show. While they played Southern Rock Opera in its [mostly] entirety, they also played some Cooley classics, the NewOK and a cover of Wet Willie's Keep on Smiling. The band was in its usual great form, the sound was damn near perfect, and the venue [Madison's Sylvee] was outstanding. A perfect night of great music!
As always, Drive-By Truckers played a long, professional show. You always get your money's worth from them. Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley are somehow underrated as songwriters and performers despite their long career. This was my first show ever at the Uptown Theater and it was a terrific place to see a show. There was plenty of room on the floor so I assume it wasn't sold out for the Saturday show but it was nice to be at a venue where you weren't elbow-to-elbow. The only downside was the price of mixed drinks, but I'm a beer drinker so I wasn't directly affected by this although some of the guys I was with had a bit of sticker shock.
We saw the Drive By Truckers concert @ The Uptown Theater last night. Fantastic! They played their double album “Southern Rock Opera” in its entirety. I saw them twice in NYC, but this show blew the previous ones away. Great sound, lighting and backdrops. Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley & the rest of DBT were at the top of their game.
The CLE House of Blues is the worst venue in town and I wish they would have played somewhere else.
The boys played their hearts out - had a great time.
DBT always delivers the goods! Our VIP experience was so kool. The sound check was a blast and we had a great time. Thanks DBT!
Great music - way too much political rhetoric; we all have our own opinions - let's not push it on each other
