About

DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don't miss what The New York Times calls "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story."

  • Cast was great. The original music just wasn't great.

by Hound on 12/12/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

The whole cast performed amazingly. I just wasn't a fan of the new original music. They know everyone is waiting around for "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch"and even that performance is just ok. The Grinch/Max/The Who's are all great as are everyone working behind the scenes. The writing was my only complaint.

  • It was not the greatest experience

by Cast on 12/12/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

First of all, the grinch look scary for the kids! It didn’t look like the advertisement they were showing! I did notice it was the same backdrops being used multiple times. I been to several musicals at the Pantages Theater. I wouldn’t recommend it. The shirts they say from the musical shrink after one time being wash. Save yourself the $55 a shirt. Stay away from the merchandise.

  • Grinch Stole the Show

by CA Supai on 12/12/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This show was so delightful. It definitely brought the kid in me. I had my entire family with me and my grandkids (7-18). They all loved it. Having the older Max be the voice of the story was unique and the young max was perfect for the part. The voice of Cindyloo Hoo was fantastic as was her performance. The entire cast did an excellent job to take us back to Hooville. The sets were colorful and perfect for the scenes. Also, having the audience take part in the show is something I loved. Anytime the audience is engaged in the performance, you have a hit! But the biggest delight of all was the performance of the Grinch. His mannerism, features, costume and voice definately were very grinchy. I would recommend this play to everyone of every age!

  • Underwhelming Holiday Show

by Unhappy on 12/12/23DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

This particular show, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Musical", was very underwhelming. Seems this was not a story suited for a "musical". My eleven year old fell asleep a couple times during the 3pm show performance. Additionally, the souvenir options were very disappointing and severely over-priced. Was hoping this show could become a yearly tradition to go watch, but it definitely is Not.

  • Wonderful Holiday Experience

by Theresa on 12/11/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The classic Dr. Seuss tale really translated well to stage. The plot was in no way compromised. The songs, some from the cartoon and some additional added to the story telling. The actors were talented, their singing and movement was spot on. The enthusiasm of the audience, especially during the audience participation portion added to the fun. The sets and costumes were cute. This was a great way to start off the holiday season!

  • Missing some of the best parts

by Mg on 12/11/23DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

I’m not a professional reviewer by any means but the plot just didn’t feel right. Don’t care for the songs that didn’t come from the movie. Cindy loo who could’ve been highlighted more than she was. It’s funny and the actors were great, just didn't love all of the music and the lack of details.

  • Bittersweet

The show would have been excellent had they not allowed any snacks in the theater. The crinkle noise of snack bags was overpowering the musical.

  • Way to cold to enjoy

by Ryan on 12/10/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

The theater was way to cold it made it uncomfortable to enjoy the show The show is 95 minutes with no intermission We stayed for about 45 minutes but had to leave because like I said It was to cold, they wouldn’t allow us to drink the $9 hot chocolate inside

  • Worth it

by veraluvsart on 12/10/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The whole cast was great. From Grinch who was funny, Max endearing, and Cindy Lou who was the cutest! The pace was good and was glad it was just 1.5 hrs long so that it wasn’t so late for my daughter who had to go to school the next day. Really got us into the holiday spirit!

  • Fun and festive!

by Sandy on 12/10/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

It was great fun! The cast did a fantastic job. We really enjoyed the evening. Only down side- the theater’s air conditioning was too cold.

It was great! Excellent performance. My son enjoyed it. He was a little scared at first ... that's how good the Grinch's character was. I hope the show returns to the DPAC next year because Ilook forward to returning next year.

  • Visually stunning, engaging, funny

by Neverenoughmusicals on 12/9/23Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Being at the Pantages is an experience in itself! Beautiful theatre. The production used the stage wonderfully with great sets, good lighting and perfect audio levels. From beginning to end the cast were positioned in ways that engaged and delighted the senses. The music was accompanied by a live orchestra, with the vocal presentation striking a chord that, at times, exclaiming out loud. Special shout-out to the Grinch whose antics were well-placed to add humour without being over-the-top. This is a must-see show no matter how old you are!
