About

DR SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is “two sizes too small,” decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don’t miss what The New York Times calls “AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story.”

Kids Under 10 Will Love This Show!!!!

by FlintridgeDad on 11/15/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

The Grinch Christmas shows have a reputation for making kids and their parents happy, and this one does not disappoint. It may seem like 90 minutes without an intermission is a long time for little ones to sit still, but the show seems to go a lot faster. John Laroquette is Old Max, and he does a wonderful job of narrating, with his understated humor and great timing. Stefan Karl, who stars on Nickelodeon's Lazy Town as the heavy, Robbie Rotten, is a fabulous Grinch. He makes the most amazing sound effects! And the citizens of Who-ville are all amazing, especially the kids ensemble. The Seuss story comes to life and the spirit of Christmas fills the Pantages. You will love this show (and so will your kids!)

The entire show is EXCELLENT. The characters, the costumes and make-up, the music, the stage props, and special effects are outstanding. Oh, and let's not forget how magnificent a venue the Pantages Theatre is. This musical is certain to bring everyone, young and old, into the holiday spirit.

    The Grinch was great FUN!

by conztantlybuzy on 11/15/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

We went as a family, with teenagers and grandma, on the opening weekend, and the show is great fun! It is 1-1/2 hours without an intermission, and it goes by quick. You laugh and sing along with the play. They follow the story quite well, and use John Laroquette as Old "Max," the older version of the Grinch's dog to tell the story, as you see all that goes on with younger Max and the Grinch and all of WhoVille. They include new songs, and of course, the two favorites from the original that we all know... the Who's song that they sing in WhoVille and the Grinch Song...which at one point, they ask the audience to sing along. It was fun for the entire family...and there were a lot of kids there as it seemed that a lot of celebrity families were there on opening weekend, as they had a red carpet going in, and everyone in the audience seemed to have a good time and the theatre was packed.

    Fantastic show!

by kemart on 11/15/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

I was worried about taking a 5.5 yrs old child to a 90 minute show, but she enjoyed it so much she was sad when it ended. It was colorful, she sang some of the songs at the end and loved the confetti 'snow'. We even had to collect some to throw onto daddy when we got home.

    Had a wonderful time!

by Anonymous on 11/15/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

My husband and I took our 5 year old son who was nailed to his seat the whole time with excitement. He laughed, clapped, and sang the Grinch song. We sat in the front and the Grinch even talked to him. The best part was all the snow that came down at the end, all the kids were having fun playing with it. Lastly it was the perfact length for children and only one act. I highly recommend this show for the whole family.

First of, I love the story. As a 24 year old guy I am not afraid to admit it. I took the girl I am dating to the show and we both thought it was great! There were alot of kids in the audience of all ages and the cast interacted with them wonderfully. The show is interactive and very entertaining.

    Good clean family fun

by elton on 11/14/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

The show was fun, the music was good, but the Grinch was hysterical. The story told from Max's point of view was a clever approach to the timeless story.

    The Grinch was AMAZING

by riderchick on 11/13/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

The set was fantastic! The houses, mountain, trees and other scenary looked like it was straight out of the book. The music was upbeat, the story line as told by Old Max did not detract from the original Dr. Suess story, followed the line of the original book. Highly recommend Everyone see this play.

Cute and entertaining but nothing spectacular

by ranan on 11/13/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

This was certainly entertaining for children. The costumes were cute and very true to the storybook. However, there wasn't anything spectacular about the play and while it was entertaining, I wouldn't say that this is a must see. I think kids may have a different view though...

How the Grinch Stole My Heart!

    by Catherine1 on 11/13/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

My family and I have loved the Grinch ever since Jim Carrey comprised the role in the Christmas classic. I was aprehensive to see another interpretation of the character but also curious as to how the whole thing would be portrayed from a stage. We were pleasantly surprised! The Who-ville characters were darling and the costumes were adorable! It was an interesting twist to see it from the dog's point of view although I didn't understand why the dog was leaving? The actor portraying the Grinch did a fine job of bringing some of the personality from Jim Carrey's version into the play without being a "copy cat." performance. My husband and I had a great time and we would recommend seeing "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" to everyone!

My daughter loved this. It is a great show for kids. Stefan Karl (The Grinch) was incredible! He made the show. I only wish that I could say the same for John Laroquette (Old Max). There was no magic & was very bland. Sorry that he was not engaging or showed enthusiasm on stage. I'm not sure if he really knew his lines either. Maybe it was just his delivery style but it did not work in our eyes. Stefan Karl made it all worthwhile though. We went with friends that had seen the NYC production. They agreeed with the comments I just made & also thought this Grinch was better than the one in NYC. The other cast members were also quite good. The audience participation was a fun addition to the many surprises during the show. Go have a good time & enjoy.
