About

DR SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is “two sizes too small,” decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don’t miss what The New York Times calls “AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story.”

    How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

    by Smith99 on 11/13/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

This was a fabulous play! The cast was the best ever. The costumes were beautiful. The singing was dead on even the children were fantastic! AND THERE WAS THE GRINCH!----OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stefan Karl is a way better Grinch then Jim Carrey could ever hope to be. I would recommend this wonderful play to anyone that wants to have a great time, adult or child. It is a fun way to start the Holiday Season! Loved it.

    by Smith99 on 11/13/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

The Grinch Musical was surperb!!! The story being narrated by John Larroquette worked perfectly. They were able to capture the story of The Grinch perfectly including the complete look and feel of Dr. Seuss. Cindy Lou Who was amazing as were all the actors. This was a great night out and a wonderful way to start the holiday season!!!! GO SEE IT!!!!!

    Definitely one for the kids!

by Gibi on 11/13/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

I surprisingly enjoyed this adaptation of the Grinch told by Old Max. Although, I had bought these tickets thinking that both John Larroquette and Christopher Lloyd (As the Grinch) would be in this musical, I was not disappointed with Stefan Karl who excelled in his performance as the Grinch. James Royce Edwards - his movements as young max made me forget he was human and not a puppy. <LOL> Only thing I didn't like was the noise level of What Cha Ma Who...the whistle was earpiercing. Overall a definite winner with the children and the child in the adults in the audience.

    Who cares about the whos?

    by buck777 on 11/12/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

The Grinch was fantastic. He did a great job of making you laugh and and made you really enjoy the character. Cindy Lou Who was fantastic as well. Unfortunately, the whos have inherently high pitched voices, which made the musical ballads a little hard to listen to at times. Overall, it was a decent with the set design being pretty good as well.

I would defiantly watch it again; the only thing was the show was a little shorter than expected.

    Energy??? - Character Development ???

by hstudios on 11/12/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

First I was very disappointed that Christopher Lloyd wasn't in the play... more so that I wasn't even notified that their had been a cast change....some surprises aren't good. I still would have gone and unfortunately been somewhat disappointed in the lack of character development and the acoustics. I have been to the Pantages Theater many times and never experienced a collage of audio at a level that almost made you want to leave. I understand the need to sometimes mic an actor...but placing a mic on an entire company requires a special talent... Which definitely was missing. With the holiday spirit in mind, I was hoping to leave with an early feeling of Christmas... Didn't happen! The story line was confusing and the talent ...well... the talent just didn't perform as a company... more like a bunch of players trying to make sure they delivered their lines over connecting with the intended character. Fortunately the show was definitely developed with children in mind... the short performance, without an intermission, made it easier to sit through. With an intermission I might not have returned to my seat. As unprepared as this performance was... including a veteran actor like John Larroquette only added to the disappointment... When you have that much energy on the stage, with a story line running at full throttle, its obviously definitely hard for the elderly to keep up. Sorry John, you're extremely talented but this roll was not for you... Just because the role is available, doesn't mean you take it. Scarred. Stefan Karl was the Grinch.... no doubt about it.. his performance and ability to take on a character with that much believability was extremely delightful... fortunately his roll very seldom relied on connecting with another actor.... not to say that there wasn't one actor that could connect.... Kayley Stallings worked harder than the rest at doing what we paid to see.... actors acting...

    The Grinch Stole Hearts

    by DeaL2 on 11/12/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

My four-year-old absolutely loved it. Mom and Grandma thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The Grinch was a tiny bit scary a couple of times so my daughter sat on my lap. However, by the end of the show she leaned over to whisper that the Grinch is nice and that she loves the Grinch. We read the book several times in the days leading up to the show--which I think helped her fully understand what was going on and what would happen. It was so good that I may take her again.

    Wonderful Family Outing

by TheCookieMonster on 11/12/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

My 7 and 5 year olds loved the show. I was worried that they would get bored halfway through but it never happened. It was such a joy to see their faces light up with excitement.

The Grinch gave us the Christmas Spirit!

by Anonymous on 11/12/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

How the Grinch Stole Christmas was the perfect kick off for the Holiday season. The Grinch was hilarious as he played into the crowd. There were several surprizes as well. The set was whimsical. I really enjoyed Grandpa Who as well. His high energy really added to his character. Of course Cindy Lou was adorable as anticipated. The costumes were vibrant with color and as whimsical as Dr Suess.

    I was disappointed

by worldclass on 11/11/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

I have only seen 3 musicals and this was my least favorite. It was very short and I was not impressed with the props. I thought it might follow the movie and it does not. I took my 10 year old daughter and she was disappointed also. She wanted Cindy-Lou to look like she did in the movie. I wish I would not have spent the money on the tickets especially with Christmas so close and the econmy so poor.

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

by Anonymous on 11/11/09Pantages Theatre - Hollywood

Unfortunately the story line, the music, the backdrops and the characters all fell short of telling Dr. Seuss' Christmas story. I had a better time closing my eyes and imagining the story than actually watching it. Old Max did not establish a rapport with the audience and that's what storytellers do. The Grinch played just another character instead of the main character.
