About

DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL is the record-setting Broadway sensation which features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated television special. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small," decides to steal Christmas away from the Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, as this sparkling production breathes new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas. Don't miss what The New York Times calls "AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE! 100 times better than any bedtime story."

Absolutely joyful..my 13 year old granddaughter's 1st theater experience. It won't be her last. She was mesmerized. The theater staff at the door of the orchestra level entrance were very patient, professional and personal. Wonderful experience all around.

  • Not impressed with this “Broadway” show

by BlessYourHeart on 10/28/25Rating: 2 out of 5

Save your money for another Christmas show. We took our 10 yr and 7 yr grandchildren last November 2025 to the Koger Center for the Arts in Columbia, SC to see this Grinch Show. We expected lavish costumes and scenery. We saw none of that. It was boring to us and to the Grandkids. It was a variation on the Grinch. No traditional storyline until almost the end of Act II. If you have an option to see a local Dance Company’s production of the Grinch Unleashed.do it! It was fantastic. You’ll pay less than half price and come out joyful, uplifted and ready for Christmas. Also look for local Productions of The Best Christmas pageant ever. It shares the true meaning of Christmas for a struggling family. We took the Grandchildren to see this at a local movie Theatre last Christmas season. It made an impression on both of them. Have a Blessed Christmas everyone.

  • It was OK

by Ang on 1/3/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 2 out of 5

This was my daughter's first experience with a musical, and she's a big fan of the Grinch. Overall, it was decent, but I'm not sure I would recommend it. The story was narrated by Max the Dog and ran for about an hour and a half. While it did stick to the main storyline, there were quite a few slow moments. The audience interaction at the end was a highlight, which was really enjoyable. However, since we've seen it once, I doubt we'll go back for another viewing.

  • The Grinch Who Stole Christmas

by Disappointed on 1/1/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 1 out of 5

Honestly, the show was not very good at all. The storyline was not at all like the Grinch story that has been told for years. Took my grandchildren, 9 and 11, and they both thought show was terrible. Costumes need improvement too. Grinch and both old and young Max costumes were not very good. Do not recommend and would not go again.

  • Better Made Costumes

by Kee on 1/1/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 4 out of 5

I believe for the price of tickets better made depicted costumes should not be a problem. The Grinch himself does not have a white face alongside his dog Max is not black and white. I believe the depiction of the characters could have been done much better. As for the Who characters were very well portrayed as in the story.

  • Surprisingly Amazing!

by Bob on 1/1/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I bought tickets to go with my grandsons, ages 9 and 6. Neither of us are particularly into theater, especially musicals. However, we were both amazed, not only by the performers, but at how well the details of the story were presented through great stage settings and special effects. I think we ended up enjoying the show just as much as our grandchildren. Thank you!!

  • Wonderful Experience

by Sandy on 1/1/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Loved seeing How the Grinch Stole Christmas in Norfolk! Seats were comfortable and roomy. Thanks! All actors were perfect for their roles. Strong voices stayed in character and excellent scenery. Missed having programs. Wanted to read about actors - don’t like using QR code - only disappointment. Definitely encourage others to see. If you love the story, you won’t be disappointed. Parents please be mindful of your young children. Their fears of dark, Loud sounds, costumes etc can take away from others’ experiences. Perfect holiday outing for families of all ages.

  • Fantastic family fun!

  • Absolutely Wonderful!

    by LBean02 on 12/31/24Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

I had an absolute blast during this wonderful musical! It was so much fun and just an absolute delight for all. I went with my mother as an birthday present to her. We are both big Grinch fans, we were absolutely dazzled by the props, the costumes, and let's not forget the MUSIC! And what I loved most was that it wasn't just a musical that you got to listen to, the cast actually made you a part of it too, which I loved! What a wonderful musical and I wish the cast & crew much success on their tour!

Excellent performance with all the cast members. The costumes, makeup , scenery to the music was phenomenal. The Grinch has amazing vocals along with his performance. I truly enjoyed the show.👍❤️

  • Wonderful

    by M nix on 12/31/24Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

This show was fantastic. Very fun and entertaining with great audience participation moments. The sets were beautifully done and surprises came at the end with indoor "snow"and suess style fireworks. I was so impressed with the fact that the actor playing the grinch managed to be extremely charismatic even in a green fur suit. Looked him up to find he is a pony award winner and does a characters voice in a very popular cartoon. My granddaughter just kept repeating "i really loved it"about the show. Cannot rave enough about it...just perfect in every way.

  • So-So

by Boy Mom on 12/30/24Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 3 out of 5

I didn’t read any reviews about The Grinch musical before I bought five tickets (a nearly $500 expense), assuming that I couldn’t go wrong with such a beloved book and multiple well-received movies. Maybe I should have. We didn’t receive a program (not sure if there weren’t any to begin with or whether they were out by the time we arrived), so we didn’t know there wouldn’t be an intermission. Not a huge deal, but an interesting choice for a theater packed with kids. Because we didn’t have a program, I can’t tell you who the actors were, but they were excellent. The actors portraying The Grinch, the older Max (narrator), and Cindy-Lou were particularly fantastic. My main complaint was the material created for this musical. It was just. so. boring! The songs were written about totally mundane activities (Christmas shopping, the Whos’ love of toys—duh) that were set to music with no true melodies. It was more sing-talking than I could handle, and certainly not entertaining enough to engage my children (9, 10, and 14). I’m not sorry we went, but I wouldn’t see it again.

  • Not very memorable

by Rocky on 12/30/24Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 3 out of 5

The props, costumes, and sets are colorful and fun. The performances were also great, especially by the Grinch. However, the musical score is not very memorable aside from the theme song and one of the Grinch solos. Out of my group, an 8yo, 10yo, and myself (43), only my 10yo truly enjoyed it, where my youngest and I left bored and ready for it to end.

  • Great show

by Gaga on 12/30/24Rating: 4 out of 5

The show was great - we had a 5 year old and an 11 year old they both enjoyed - would have liked a playbill to see who these fabulous actors were - the older Max was so great - he was actually my favorite. I agree the grinch costume was not kid friendly. My granddaughter who plays the double bass asked to see the orchestra pit afterwards and I am grateful for the young man who took the time to talk to her - he even offered to let their play on Sunday - lol. Things like that go along way. She is also into the theatre so it was a great experience to her all the way around.
