DMX in Concert
All DMX seems to make is top-selling records, beginning with 1998's It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. Collectively, his first five albums have gone platinum 15 times, and, as of late, DMX has been gracing stages all over the map with a 20th Anniversary Tour of the album that started it all. On stage, little has changed over the past 20 years. His live performances continue to showcase the same unique anthemic style, fierce braggadocio and passionate flair that he's always brought. His uncannily deep, raspy flow's still there, too, along with the highly recognizable grunts and hollers that could only come from DMX. At an April 2019 show at Manhattan's Irving Plaza he teased and toyed with the crowd before dropping his breakthrough single, "Ruff Ryders Anthem," as they roared along with the star.
DMX Background
Born Earl Simmons in Mount Vernon, New York, DMX grew up in Yonkers. As a troubled teen, he found himself wandering the streets late at night and befriending street dogs, spawning a theme that frequently appears in his music (most famously in his first charting single, "For My Dogs"). DMX has released nine studio albums, featuring such guest vocalists as Jay-Z, Cam'ron, Aaliyah and even Patti LaBelle. A father of 15, today DMX is a devout Christian and a deacon in his church. An entertainer at his core, DMX has had leading roles in a number of films, including Romeo Must Die with Jet Li and Exit Wounds with Steven Seagal. He gave what is arguably his marquee performance as Tommy "Buns" Bundy in Hype Williams' 1998 hip-hop epic, Belly.
The best event ever... love all DMX shows. Does a great performance.
Came 1 hr before 9 and left at 11:30, DMX didn’t show up.
GREAT show I enjoyed every act from beginning to end. The show started on time and I was very excited because this was my kind of show. Had a marvelous time,
Rappers didn’t have enough to do most of their hits. Why did end stop to do push-ups, what was the purpose.
This was an awesome show, I just wished that Scarface was the Headliner, Ticket sales would've been through the roof. Everyone else was good I was just concerned about DMX falling off of that speaker.
I enjoyed The show tremendously. If brought back many good memories. MC Lyte and Young Bloodz were my favorites. DMX was tripping. As long as he was performing, he was great but the minute he stopped, he was all over the place. It was entertaining none the less.
Old-school Hip Hop @ its finest! Scarface, MC Lyte, E-40, DMX, Tela, Young Bloodz, and St. Lunatics!
Had a good time. Love the old school rap. Sad the place wasn’t packed but didn’t stop the performers from putting on a show and me having a great time
Good show, just minus the crew leaders. No Cam, or 50 cent, but still an overall good show.
Good show. All the group's performed well. Albany didn't come out and support like they should have.
The show was good but the venue sound system was terrible. It was difficult to understand the words of the artist.
The show was a huge success! It was great to see and hear the talent live again. Having it on the beach gave a great atmosphere and people were more relaxed. The show was exceptional as thought to be. I really enjoyed this reunion and would like more events to take place there.
I had a really AWESOME time at the Beachfest Concert- Ruff Ryders & Friends. I was full of excitement and joy that lasted a few days. I was overwhelmed with joy from the music that brought back so many wonderful memories.I am a HARD CORE Ruff Ryder Fan 4Life and I am so humbly grateful to be able to see them again (Minus EVE). My only dislikes were that Security made many of us walk back to our cars because of the type of chairs we had. Then after becoming tired of turning folks back, they started letting folks into the concert with the same chairs they made us take back. We purchased beach chairs for nothing and that had us very upset. Nevertheless, I will better prepare myself the next time. I had an awesome time and these memories will last a lifetime. Thank you for an amazing performance from all of the artist. And regardless of what I LOVE DMX to the DEATH.
Performance wasn't bad. It was good to see all the old heads perform. I would see them just to see them because they are still around. DMX was hilarious in between songs. I think he may have been on something but he needed some guidance from others to keep the show moving. Wish he performed "X Gon' Give it to ya" which he didn't but he is indeed an entertainer when in song. Ja rule and Ashanti are entertainers and it was good to see Fat Joe and Jadakiss.
Sound was messed up, remy ma didn't show up, it took forever for the next person to hit the stage and concert was way to long
The concert started at 5pm but the headliners (Fat Joe, Ashanti, Ja Rule, and DMX) didn't come on until 8:30pm. Since the venue was standing room only, I was exhausted before the artists I came to see, even came on. Also the venue was bad. I had general admission tickets and the closest I could get to the stage was 200 yards away!! You almost couldn't see it above people's heads in front of you. The venue was divided up into three standing room only sections, each increasing in ticket price the closer you get to the stage. so my section (the farthest from the stage) was packed for about 15 rows up to the section divider, but in front of the divider was about 50-75 yards of empty space in the next section which made for a very awkward experience. But when Ashanti, Ja Rule, and DMX came on, I had a blast!! (though that wasn't until about 9/9:30pm) They totally delivered and the crowd was hype. they are great performers live
The show was awesome. I just wish smoking was allowed in designated areas only, because we were really bothered by all the smoking.
Did not play some expected songs. Felt like a talk show
Ga admission was so far back. Big gap between ga and silver seatibg area. No upgrades dmx was idk high. It was worst concert ever been too. Also had walk a mile 4 ga seats then once in a 1/2 mile walk in sand was mess i left
Had a great time for a rap throw back concert needed more screens
