About
Don't miss the smash Broadway musical that's based on the 1991 Disney film. "Beauty and the Beast" tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial French town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped in a spell placed by an evil enchantress. If the beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will be ended and he will be transformed into his former self. Time is running out. If Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. Music by Alan Menken. Lyrics by Howard Ashman & Tim Rice.
Rating: 5 out of 5by JMS69 on 4/13/15The Stanley - Utica Rating: 3 out of 5by Fen527 on 4/11/15The Stanley - Utica It wasn't as good as expected and seemed a little cheap at times. I didn't like how they made the beast a big whiny pants for comedic purposes; it was annoying. For those with young kids, I would rate the play PG not G, and be aware it is very long. Still, it was fun and enjoyable and there were some great characters. My favorite was Gaston!
Rating: 5 out of 5 Beauty and the Beast was the best!

by Dianem13 on 4/10/15The Stanley - UticaOverall it was a great experience! Only recommendation would be to have more people participate in the "Be Our Guest" scene! It wasn't as extravagant as I've seen in the past.

Rating: 1 out of 5 Beauty and the Beast was a let down
by Anonymous on 3/11/15Shubert Theatre - New HavenAfter looking forward to the event, we were very disappointed with the production. Much of the acting was overdone. We saw the show on Sunday and Belle was the understudy. Her performance was lacking in both acting and voice. The Beast was very good and we were happy to get to the second act when he had a bigger presence.

Rating: 2 out of 5 Beauty and the Beast fails to entrance
by RWBlack on 3/11/15Shubert Theatre - New HavenFair to Poor - a disappointment to be sure. Being a long-time lover of the story and show, I was surprised by the obvious omission of 2 numbers (We're Not Odd and La Maison de Lunes) from the program. The jump over of these pieces added to the disjointed and choppy feel of the production. The understudy for Belle should have studied more before being put on stage - extra voice lessons to learn true pitch would have helped as well. The scenery was quite good, the method of scene changes by gargoyle stage hands very enjoyable and smooth. Lighting was excellent. Sound was adequate at best - and we were seated 7th row center orchestra - the EQ was thin, the voices shrill. Gastone was the true shining star in this performance; Lumiere a close second. The rest of the cast was equal to a good collegiate effort at best Overall - a disappointing and flat evening - leaving both of us wondering why we had come.

by Delgado2010 on 3/10/15Shubert Theatre - New HavenMy 4-year old daughter absolutely enjoyed this event, and loved the Beast... the singing and choreography was fantastic. This show was better then the Broadway version I was ten years ago, and I truly enjoyed all the singing and choreography as well. Fantastic performance!

Rating: 4 out of 5 Great Experience
by Shoda on 3/10/15Shubert Theatre - New HavenOverall the show was delightful, very entertaining and heart warming. Parts were a bit unnecessarily long and bit boring (the villagers). Based on the lion king, I expected a grander production. The beast was a little disappointing; a taller actor would have been better.
