The band put on a great show. They have a lot of energy and are a lot of fun to watch live. It wasn't the greatest venue - the drink options were limited and were cash-only. Plus, there wasn't a lot of standing room.

Rating: 4 out of 5by Anonymous on 10/4/10Aladdin Theater - Portland Rating: 5 out of 5 Dirty Projectors was worth the time and money
by UncleMeat on 10/3/10Showbox at the Market - SeattleGreat show. From the songs and videos I'd heard I was impressed that they were trying to do origional things. Being experimental usually means that not everything works and they seemed a bit disjointed. But here in their last concert of the tour they were amazingly tight for a band using disonant chords and uneven rhythms. It made for a much richer and more interesting sound. They make almost everything out there now obsolete. UM
Rating: 5 out of 5 Everything you want in a live show
by Zeppyfish on 10/3/10Showbox at the Market - SeattleI must admit I had my doubts about Dirty Projectors as a live band, what with the intricate harmonies, crazy rhythmic stop/starts and jittery guitar lines. In fact, I passed up a chance to see them at Sasquatch in favor of Pavement, only to be told later that the Projectors were one of the festival highlights. So I gave them another shot at the far more intimate Showbox Market, and I was NOT disappointed. Their live energy is raw and infectious, the three women in the band all sing just as beautifully live as in the studio, and lead singer/songwriter/guitarist/freaking genius David Longstreth is an unstoppable force onstage. I even enjoyed the all ages atmosphere, although I was at least twice the age of most of the kids who surrounded me, mostly because they (like me) didn't act too cool to care, as so many Seattle hipster fans seem to do. There was much bouncing, dancing, and joyful celebration. It was a killer show, and I'm soooo glad I got to see it.
Rating: 5 out of 5 I would give Dirty Projectors nine stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 Absolutely Amazing!
by OlderGenerationCakeFan on 9/29/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonMy 26 year old son recommended the Dirty Projectors to me some time ago, and I finally had an opportunity to see the them at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston a couple of weeks ago. They totally blew me away! Band mastermind Dave Longstreth is a genius! (Angel and Amber are so unbelievably talently as well). The band was awesome, the singing and playing was truly amazing. I know it may sound rather ...weird(?).. for a 54 year old to gush on about a modern experimental rock band, but for those of you who appreciate musical talent in this genre, this is a group you NEED to check out. Btw, the opening act was Owen Pallett (formerly, Final Fantasy), and this is my assessment: I would have just as well gone to see him as a featured act. In fact, after his performance, I turned to my son and said, "Well. I could leave right now and truly feel I totally got my money's worth." Of course, I wasn't going to do that, and like I said, the DPs was truly amazing. You know, as an old guy, I can say, it's very reassuring to know that even today, despite all the sounds of artificiality in today's pop music, there is still excellent original music being produced by the 'young artists', if one looks for it!
Rating: 5 out of 5 Jaw-dropping
by MazIsMyName on 9/27/10The Wiltern - Los AngelesNever had seen DP live before this show, and I was entirely amazed. It's incredible how pitch-perfect they sound live. They're all clearly classically-trained, and obviously put tons and tons of time into practicing together. Absolutely beautiful, spot-on, flawless music.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Dirty Projectors were Incredible!
by Wolfman0504 on 9/21/10First Avenue - MinneapolisTo describe the Dirty Projectors I will frequently use the word unique, because that's exactly what they are. They weren't the number one show out of all that I've seen, simply because I've seen a lot of great shows, but they definitely have a unique playing style unlike any group I've ever seen before, and they certainly rocked the house at First Ave in Minneapolis. Frontman Dave Longstreth has a unique playing and songwriting style that the rest of the band seems to just understand. Drummer Brian McOmber creates some really unique beats with such strange yet amazing time signatures. The vocal harmonies between Angel, Amber, and Haley are so unique and gorgeous and blend together fantastically. All of their parts work so well together and really make them who they are. Plus Angel is beautiful so there's that... I would definitely recommend them to a friend and will be going again myself next time they are in town.

by ArbitraryLife on 9/15/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonWith the musical intracies depicted on their studio stuff, I was sure I was in for a treat. My girlfriend and I were reasonably content in knowing this show would be fun, groovy, and sufficiently bouncy...It blew us away, each song more than the last! They reproduce even their most busy studio stuff with devastating accuracy PLUS the infusion of their live energy - which is simply astounding. You are not amazed right now. You are reading and thinking about my words. You will be amazed watching this six piece - three guys, three girls - act as one peice. We pay people to watch them PLAY. These folks do not perform, they play.
Rating: 5 out of 5 High energy show
by Attendee14 on 9/15/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonFun show! Was a good length, they played a lot of different types of songs from their collection (though heavy on the new stuff), they seemed like they were having a good time and had a lot of energy, and their music is great. Beautiful voices; I really enjoyed the show.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Open Wallet and Pirty Drojectors
by brusty on 9/15/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonTo me this was a double header, I'm a big fan of both Owen Pallet and Dirty Projectors. The talent that projects from both OP and DP is awe inspiring. Owen's intricate petal layering of his violin and voice then adding his accompanying bass / drum player completes the triad to give the audience a fulfilling mouthful of incredible music. Then DP came on as strong as ever. I saw them on this tour over a year ago in Somerville and then again at the Paradise, they once again delivered a powerful performance. And I guess being on the road they improved on each song. There are moments that I was caught off guard because of some extra vocals added in. I did read another review on someone's blog saying "The crowd seemed predisposed to eating up the performance" there were some uncomfortable awkward moments ... but it's a Monday night! Plus the band doesn't have to have a conversation with the audience ... they just played great music.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Don't miss Dirty Projectors LIVE
by ohwonderpeople on 9/15/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonOne of the most original bands around playing some of the most technically-sound arrangements, LIVE.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Dirty Projectors + Owen Pallett = win
by Matthius on 9/15/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonThe dirty Projectors were outstanding, spot on, and they rocked out. Its not often an artsy, experimental bands rocks so hard, and it was really great to hear. the harmonies were of course mindblowing, the guitar was great, and they sounded better than they do on their album. As if that weren't enough, the opener, Owen Pallett (previously Final Fantasy) was amazing. I sat captivated through the awesome but still nerdy songs, and amused during his little naratives between performances. I would have paid double this price to hear a dweeby guy with a violin sing songs about breaking jaws of cockatrices and rejecting the sexual advances of his god, but following it up with an electric and spot-on Dirty Projectors show? It was almost too much to handle. Needless to say I left more than satisfied, if a little mind-blown. I would highly reccomend seeing both acts to anyone... You may want to see them seperately though, unless you enjoy picking up tiny pieces of your grey matter from every corner of the venue.

by devyes on 9/15/10Wilbur Theatre - BostonThe dirty projectors are pretty much my favorite band and their performance on this legendary evening was absolutely inspiring to watch, listen and dance to. Anyone best be checking them out, as they are surely doing nothing but rising.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 9/14/10Terminal 5 - New York One of the best shows I have been to in a while! Dirty Projectors never disappoint with its talent and stage presence.
Rating: 5 out of 5by onedove on 9/13/10Terminal 5 - New York the dirty projectors break all the rules and put them back together again... they are unbelievable artists, full of life, love and rebellion. if you're not listening to them, you're fooling yourself.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 9/13/10Terminal 5 - New York It's not easy finding a happy medium between good music and a good crowd to experience it with. Lately, in a scene thats been become over-saturated with uninteresting bands and equally pedestrian hipsters, the future of a musical genre I once loved has not shown much promise for the future. Luckily, this is not the case with the Dirty Projectors. It's certainly been a while since I've made the effort to attend such an event and I'm glad I chose this one. Between the enormous talent of this band and the overall feeling of the crowd, I can't think of a venue that could have housed such a euphoric atmosphere as well as Terminal 5 did. I'd recommend this band and this venue to anyone who is interested.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Dirty Projectors were fantastic
by Fourseys on 9/13/10Terminal 5 - New YorkThis was the first band I've seen in a while that was really worth seeing live. They played straight for almost two hours--a lot of stuff I knew and some I didn't know, all of it with incredible talent and emotion. A memorable performance and a lot of fun.
