  • Excellent production

by SixtiesBloke on 2/4/17Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

The reviewer for our local newspaper panned the show but concluded her review by noting that the cast received a standing ovation - perhaps the audience knows better than she what constitutes good entertainment! This show has a well chosen cast, is creatively staged, stays true to the original story and allows the music, singing and dancing to shine.

The musical stayed true to the story. Music and dancing was great. Loved the way they staged the water scene.

There wasn't a moment in Dirty Dancing that I felt it was less than the shows I have seen in New York. From the time the curtain went up, to the ending I was captivated with the dancing, the acting, the singing and the sets!

  • Waste of time

by WeGotThis on 2/1/17Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 2 out of 5

I'm one big fan of Dirty Dancing, but this was so disappointing. The actors were not on their game at all. The whole Hamilton-Ish interlude was so out of bounds and really made my guest and I just disgusted. This group should really rethink their tour and stick to what the viewers want...a musical based on the movie. Please keep today's politics out of Dirty Dancing.

  • huge disappointment

by Saratink on 2/1/17Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 1 out of 5

Dirty Dancing is my favorite movie ever, as in, I would stay up all night and watch it multiple times as a pre-teen, and my sister and I practiced the dance scenes together, including the lift in our pool! I was hesitant to see the show for fear of being disappointed, and I was. It strayed oddly from the story line by trying to incorporate MLK and the freedom riders, which just didn't work and seemed out of place. They wrapped up the ending too neatly, making you think Johnny and Baby are going to stay together forever, which is not what happens in the movie. The actress playing Penny was tall, blond, thin, and an amazing dancer, and a terrible actress! We had an understudy for Baby, and she was ok, but not great, and she definitely messed up the dancing on the finale number. Johnny was the best actor in the show, though reminded me more of Brad Pitt than Patrick Swayze. The African American woman who sang a lot of the songs had a beautiful voice, but as always, the sound system at Centennial Hall is not very good and so it didn't do her justice and it was often hard to hear. I did like the sets, and the swimming scene was very cute and funny. Overall I completely regret going and it was a waste of money.

  • Dirty Dancing amazing!

Play just like movie with wonderful projections for props including additional props to give you the feel of where they are, dancing, music absolutely wonderful. So happy I went to see it, would see it again!

  • Movie Was Better

    by ArizonaRoadrunner2016 on 2/1/17Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 2 out of 5

Some talented dancing, but no acting ability. The lines were delivered in a wooden manner. Won't be going to these recycled shows anymore. And what was with the gratuitous political content?

  • Best Broadway play that I have seen!

by Sisseton on 2/1/17Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I happened to be in Tucson and wondered if any event was in town. I noticed Motown the play was going to be in town so I looked up tickets on Ticketmaster and saw that it was going to be a month later. So we noticed "Dirty Dancing" was in town and I found two great tickets on Ticketmaster. My wife loved the original movie, but I was reluctant to go, not a big fan. Wow, was I grateful I went! We have gone to a number of Broadway shows, both on Broadway in New York and traveling shows. This is the BEST Broadway show that my wife and have seen! The cast was perfect, but the lead actor Christopher Tierney as Johnny Castle was an incredible performance!

  • Dirty Dancing was so much fun!

    by CAF8 on 1/31/17Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 4 out of 5

Anyone who is a fan of the movie would enjoy this performance. I imagine this was difficult to make into a theater production but they made it work and made it fun. They stayed true to the movie as much as possible. I really enjoyed it.

  • Music too loud!!! Dancers and story was wonderful!

    by Nance4711 on 1/31/17Centennial Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

The music was so loud that it was hard to enjoy the story and difficult to hear the speakers and singers.
