Dionne Warwick in Concert

When you see Dionne Warwick perform, you know you're in the presence of pop-music royalty. This is a woman who's remained one of America's top hitmakers throughout multiple eras, contributing classic songs one after another. At the same time, Warwick radiates the warmth that lies at the core of her legendary hits, and for all of her undeniable elegance, her onstage presence couldn't be more natural and down-to-earth. Despite the many decades Warwick has been bringing her unique brand of pop to the stage and studio, her sultry, hypnotic voice remains undiminished. Hearing her deliver songs she made famous, like "I Say a Little Prayer" and "What the World Needs Now Is Love," is like opening a love letter from another era that bears just as much of an emotional impact today as it did back then.

Dionne Warwick Background

Though she's one of the world's premier pop singers, Dionne Warwick actually started out as a gospel singer with The Drinkard Singers and The Gospelaires. In the early 1960s, however, she crossed paths with iconic songwriting team Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The two men were working on sophisticated pop material and they found the voice that matched their vision in Warwick. Her recordings of tunes like "Walk on By" and "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" led to huge successes for both the singer and the songwriters, while helping to define the era in pop music along the way. That in itself would be enough to ensure Warwick's place in history, but she kept reinventing herself in the decades to come with hits like 1971's "Then Came You," 1982's "Heartbreaker," and 1985's "That's What Friends Are For," proving that her talent was bound to no single time period.

Do You Know The Way To San Jose

by thewanderer on 4/10/11Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

The show it self was spectacular. It was a great trip back in time with some of the most timeless songs ever. She has one of the most extraordinary singing voices I have ever heard. I was disappointed however, that she did not come out after the show and talk to those who had come to see her perform. I think it would have been appropriate for her to spend some time autographing memorabilia for people who wished to have her sign something. I frankly think this should be a requirement of all performers after their shows as a way of showing their appreciation to the audience for coming out. I think too often, these days, stars of entertainment forget who actually put them there.

    Disappointing

by SouthBendBill on 4/10/11Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

I was very disappointed in this performance. The ushers told us when we went in that the concert would be two hours, no intermission. She sang her 1960s hits, several new/unknown pieces to promote her new release, maybe two songs from the 1980s, and finished in 75 minutes. I saw her in the 1980s and she did a very short show then, complaining about the sound system. The audience was very shocked and angry at the short performance. As a long time fan, I would not pay to see her again.

    Diva of the day!

by luckylyle on 4/10/11Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

I didn't know what to expect; can she deliver, how is her voice?? Dionne proved she is on her game and for a career that lasted 50 years, you go girl. She joked about being on Celebrity Apprentice and then hit us with non-stop classics like "Walk On By", "Anyone Who Had A Heart", "Alfie", "Do You Know the Way To San Jose", and so many others. Then took us to her Brazil album tracks which were fresh and enticing. She also performed some new tracks from her new album, which were jazzy in nature and I enjoyed them as well. She went back to some old classics during her Arista years, then ended with "That's What Friends Are For." I had at least 10 other songs she could do for an encore, but that never happened. I realized that she performed for 1 hour and 15 mins and went home. Hmmm. Am I greedy for wanting more or was this enough. I guess I am greedy. I wanted 2 solid hours.

    As Good As Ever

by dreworf on 4/10/11Ferguson Center for the Arts Concert Hall - Newport News

What a fab show. Couldn't believe she has as much energy and voice as when younger. And the band was absolutely beyond wonderful, especially the conductor/pianist.

    Dionne was perfect!!

by lowyda on 4/10/11Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

I have never seen Dionne in person and she was truly amazing-this is the first concert I have been to that started within 5 minutes of the posted time-the band played probably less than a minute before Dionne came onstage-talked for about 5 minutes and then sang her heart out-certainly did not sound like a 70 year old voice-I can't imagine it being any better-she sang many of her classic hits as well as a few off her new CD-her band was very good and she hit notes that were off the sound barrier-rich,deep and melodic. Only slight criticism is the show ended about 1 hour and 20 minutes and the ushers had said it would be two hours but she was so good I really wasn't disappointed!!

    Dionne Warwick

by bisk on 4/10/11Rialto Square Theatre - Joliet

She hasn't lost a beat. However, we were told the program was 2 hours long without an intermission. I had no problem with that, but when she walked off the stage after only an hour and fifteen minutes and the lights went out on stage and her group packed up and left it was really disappointing. We had spent 90 minutes on the road to get to the performance and then she just walks off. Not sure I would see her again.

    A Great Show....A Charming Lady

by VAHouseLady on 4/9/11Ferguson Center for the Arts Concert Hall - Newport News

Dionne Warwick put on a wonderful show for us at the Ferguson Center. She was charming, personable, and a super performer. She sang her heart out for 1 1/2 hours straight and seemed to enjoy every minute of it. I was glad to be there and had a delightful evening. Thank you, Dionne! It was a real trip down memory lane.

Dionne Warwick was 3 words: fab you lus (LOL)

by AJOYFULTON on 10/19/10BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - Englewood

The evening left me feeling quite blessed. As a songwriter, I was thrilled to have the treat of a man openning the show that I did not know, yet he was a superstar in his own right, having written songs for more than 70 famous entertainers. He shared some known and unknown songs he has written and he himself has a great voice too! And then there was our headliner... the incomparable Dionne Warwick. Although I knew she would be wonderful and I was thrilled to be in the 2nd row, I had no idea just how classy and awesome she would be. Her performance and presence was flawless. And then there was her eldest son. What a wonderful voice he has and it was no surprise. The night exceeded my expectations.

Dionne was as always - perfection!

by DionneFan on 10/18/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I am huge Dionne Warwick fan, and I go see her everytime she is in NYC - this being the 25th time or so. She is always perfectly charming and remains an amazing vocalist. She knows how to get the audience on her side from the moment she pics up the microphone. The only downside, was that I wasn't crazy about the venue. I had never been there before and I think all the food service is distracting from the performance. But no one can hold a candle to Dionne!

    Worst music listening experience ever

by Daveming on 10/17/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Arrived 1 hr 15 min before show time. Place was overbooked, way overcrowded. Was told the day of the show, the venue gave 60 tickets for Ms. Warwick's "friends". Would not reimburse even though hopelessly over-booked. Put my wife and I behind a pillar. Never saw Ms. Warwick live during the entire show - only on a screen, which I could have done watching my TV at home. BB King's personnel were unsympathetic and Stephanie (the maitre'de?) in particular was very rude and obnoxious. Food was terrible and the stout tasted watered-down. Sound was marginal - couldn't hear Ms. Warwick very well most of the time (maybe she asked for it that way). I am also a musician, and the bottom line is that music clubs exist for the listener, the paying customer, not solely for the profit of the venue and the performer. But if we didn't buy tickets, Ms. Warwick, bless her heart, would have to find some other way of generating some income, and BB King's would not exist. BB Kings felt like a tourist trap. We will never ever go back there again. There were many, many unhappy people, including some elderly folks who they stuck in a corner somewhere. I sensed that seeing someone of Ms. Warwick's caliber was supposed to be a special moment for them, and it probably wasn't. I was angry and stayed angry until the next day. I certainly BB King the man has little or nothing to do with this place. P.S. Beware - the tickets have row & seat numbers on them, but it's really first come first served. The person who was trying (and failing) to seat us, said "I really don't know why they do that".

    Dionne was classy

by gtba on 10/17/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Dionne Warwick proved again that she's a one of a kind entertainer. Her unmistakeable voice is still beautiful, though not as strong as it was in her younger days. But whose is? Her showmanship was effortless-she just did what she does best - sang and interpreted real songs - songs with beautiful melodies and lyrics that you can understand. She sang some of her classics and my favorites: Alfie, Do You Know the Way to San Jose, I'll Never Fall In Love Again, I'll Never Love This Way Again. She introduced her son as a duet partner. He was good, but it was interesting that even at her age, Dionne's voice overpowered his. She is a consummate professional, a true living legend, a reminder of what it means to be a great singer. I'm so glad I had the chance to see her.

Dionne looked exceptionally great. I was very impressed with her show, and really glad I made the decision to go. I had a front row seat, and got a generous amount of upclose pictures.

by Audryfan on 10/17/10B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Ms. Warwick was excellent, but show was to short, (1h 15min, ) Service was good, staff very polite, but food was OK, but a little over cooked, Unclear how to arrange better seating.
