Dionne Warwick in Concert

When you see Dionne Warwick perform, you know you're in the presence of pop-music royalty. This is a woman who's remained one of America's top hitmakers throughout multiple eras, contributing classic songs one after another. At the same time, Warwick radiates the warmth that lies at the core of her legendary hits, and for all of her undeniable elegance, her onstage presence couldn't be more natural and down-to-earth. Despite the many decades Warwick has been bringing her unique brand of pop to the stage and studio, her sultry, hypnotic voice remains undiminished. Hearing her deliver songs she made famous, like "I Say a Little Prayer" and "What the World Needs Now Is Love," is like opening a love letter from another era that bears just as much of an emotional impact today as it did back then.

Dionne Warwick Background

Though she's one of the world's premier pop singers, Dionne Warwick actually started out as a gospel singer with The Drinkard Singers and The Gospelaires. In the early 1960s, however, she crossed paths with iconic songwriting team Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The two men were working on sophisticated pop material and they found the voice that matched their vision in Warwick. Her recordings of tunes like "Walk on By" and "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" led to huge successes for both the singer and the songwriters, while helping to define the era in pop music along the way. That in itself would be enough to ensure Warwick's place in history, but she kept reinventing herself in the decades to come with hits like 1971's "Then Came You," 1982's "Heartbreaker," and 1985's "That's What Friends Are For," proving that her talent was bound to no single time period.

by rgonzalesatmetryla on 9/13/09Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

The Hal David/Burt Bacharach retrospective was a stroll down memory lane. And the new takes on some of the Warwick favorites were a new way for new fans to make her music thier own.

    In great voice

by Tenderhearted on 9/12/09Hard Rock Live - Biloxi

Dionne's show was fabulous! She was in great voice, able to reach high notes and sustain them. She sang all her hits and other familiar songs of the same era. I just wished the concert could have lasted longer.

Dionne Warwick --An Evening to Cherish

by yankeeanne on 7/10/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los Angeles

Dionne is such a consummate professional and her sophistication and humanity were evident throughout the interview. I admire her honesty and the pride she takes in her craft. What a privilege to gain insight into such a talented and caring human being. We laughed, we cried, we applauded. Then we were treated to a few songs. Alfie and That's What Friends are For both brought back cherished memories. I will never forget this wonderful evening.

    Dionne Warwick

by Franz on 7/10/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los Angeles

If your expectation was for Dionne Warwick to sing majority of the time - you will be disappointed. She only sang 4 songs for the 1.5- 2 hour show! Grammy Museum should advertise as 'An Evening with Dionne Warwick - Interview by so and so - ' or something that this was an interview !

    Warwick Disappointment

by Celine on 7/9/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los Angeles

If someone forewarned me to expect an hour and fifteen minute interview and 20 minutes of singing (three songs), I still would have attended. But without the forewarning, I was very disappointed in the minimal "music" performance.

This was a question & answer time followed by four songs. It quickly became evident that Ms. Warwick is a charming and wonderful person. Her voice is breathtaking.

    Amazing Evening with Dionne Warwick

by Maurie on 7/9/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los Angeles

This event was a very candid, relaxed, intimate evening with music legend Dionne Warwick. The setting was fantastic. With only 200 seats in the Sound Stage, everyone could feel up close and personal to Miss Warwick. The balance of questions from the interviewer and audience, and music from Miss Warwick was perfect. Miss Warwick was personable and engaging in her signature classy and elegant way. She was very gracious with her fans and treated us to 4 wonderful selections accompanied only by piano. A fabulous evening at the Grammy Museum! I look forward to returning to other events like this.

Sista Dionne SMOKED !! AWESOMEE !!!

by Kiran on 7/9/09The GRAMMY Museum - Los Angeles

I had the opportunity to sit dead center front row. I have admired her since 1970 when I first came to this country. This gave me a insight to her life and carreer. I wished that the interview was bit shorter which would have allowed her to sing couple of more songs. She is a class ACT !!!
