DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • A monumental talent

by Mal on 3/4/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 4 out of 5

A human jukebox. She was probably prepared with a couple thousand songs. Her style and wonderful voice are overshadowed by her magnificent piano- playing. She’s an incredibly talented musician. I take away one star not for her, but for the venue which had really uncomfortable seats.

  • Absolutely wonderful

by Dee on 3/4/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 5 out of 5

Loved Diana’s concert. Totally just Diana and her piano. Totally engaged with the audience. Loved every minute of it.

  • Not What We Expected

by Kimmy on 3/4/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 3 out of 5

Diana Krall is an amazing piano player and singer. We were disappointed at the show because we thought it was going to be a concert. Instead it was her just playing some songs at whim and some of the audience participating.

  • Good event

by Ed M on 3/4/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 3 out of 5

Nice concert venue is nice very well organized easy in and helpful in finding seats etc. Not the most comfortable seats in the world and view of stage was difficult due to some large people in front of us . We basically saw show on the tv screens which were very good. Show was 1/2 late starting not sure why . Ms Krall played well and interacted with the crowded a little too much but that was her choice. Her voice was great and piano playing was wonderful.

  • Great Concert

by JC on 3/4/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Acts was an excellent choice for the concert's venue. We had excellent seats for the performance. Diana played all the songs we love. It was a great variety. Outstanding piano player and superb voice. Recommend this concert to anyone who loves this song genre. She was simply fantastic. One of the best concerts we have seen.

  • Not what I expected

by Panky on 3/4/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 1 out of 5

We were very much looking forward to this experience. Wind Creek is an uncomfortable venue but we were prepared to deal with that. We were so disappointed with the concert. Diana Krall is a phenomenal talent but she seemed unprepared and out of it. Words were slurred, lyrics forgotten! I hope that she is ok.

  • Diana Krall is a virtuoso

by Phenom- absolutely amazing!! on 3/4/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing concert. Her voice is like honey and her piano skills are phenomenal. Her style is her signature. She is a must see if you get the opportunity to see her.

  • Distracted performer / rude audience

by CS on 3/4/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 2 out of 5

Diana Krall began her performance late and seemed very unfocused and distracted. Additionally, one audience male continually sang during piano interludes. I did not pay to listen to a “wanna be lounge lizard” Left the performance before the encore…. Very disappointed. Post COVID behaviors have declined to a whole new level. Low class crowd. Will not return to Wind Creek Event Center to sit in folding chairs. It’s all about squeezing in as many people as possible.

  • Great show

by Mitch on 3/2/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

I attend very few shows like this but, ever since I discovered Diana Krall in the '90s I said I would definitely go see her if she performed reasonably close to my home. Greensboro is only and hour away and the Tanger Center is a fantastic venue for a show like this. Diana didn't disappoint and was every bit as good as I expected her to be. I would love to see her perform along with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.

  • Relaxed Jazzy evening

by NCDude on 3/2/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 4 out of 5

Lovely performance by Diana. Only her and a piano. I was expecting a jazz ensamble group for accompaniment, but it turned out to be very upclose and personal evening with her interpretations on the piano and her sultry voice. Thank you for a nice and relaxed jazzy performance.

  • Intimate with Diana

by JazzM on 3/2/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Diana was at her best. It was like having an intimate performance by her right in my home. Can’t wait to see her again!

The performance was incredible, the venue (sound, atmosphere and accommodations) were top notch, and the overall experience was amazing!

  • Amazing show!

by Rosangela on 3/2/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall is very friendly to her audience. But the main thing is that he puts on a show playing the piano and singing.

  • You've got to love a torch singer.

by Bill on 3/2/24Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts - GreensboroRating: 5 out of 5

It goes without saying that Diana Krall is a rare talent. Her voice (contralto?) has a sultry quality that evokes a range of emotions. Tanger Center is excellent for any performance but especially for concerts where the music has subtle undertones. It was the perfect venue for Diana Krall's show. I wish she had played longer and also would have liked to she her perform "Almost Blue".

  • Disappointing in Greenville SC on February 26 2024

by Agent Orange on 2/28/24Rating: 3 out of 5

We saw Diana live in Spartanburg 15 or so years ago and she and her band were phenomenal. This time she surprisingly played solo the entire 100 minutes of her show. What happened to her band? They’d played with her on Saturday night in Knoxville and on Sunday night in Charlotte, but alas, not this Monday night. She took stage at 7:42, 12 minutes late and I loved her first song from Brigadoon, “Almost like Being in Love”. After that, the concert slide downhill, she never played a snappy fast song to snap my fingers too, everything was slower than usual, and she blended songs into medleys. She never played S’Wonderful or lots of her other well known hits. She did East of the Sun and West of the moon as her encore and in mid concert O Canada segueing into A Case of You. She also played L-O-V-E. My wife, the couple seated behind us and another couple seated beside us thought she might be impaired. While the concert was a sell out, or close to it, I saw seven or more couples leave after the first hour. There were some forgottten lyrics. She said that her famous drummer Jeff Hamilton was backstage, but he didn’t play or make an appearance. The strangest thing was her dialogue with the audience: she kept moving papers on her piano, claiming she had hundreds of songs, what should she play? She said this several times during the concert and people started shouting out things like Play Freebird! The concert was like being in her living room while everyone was on their fourth drink and she was piddling on the piano, experimenting with.pacing, new songs, and sometimes making up lyrics on the fly. I still enjoyed the concert but I missed the band and her more uptempo songs.

  • Great Show

by Paul on 2/28/24Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall is a master musician, both with her vocals and piano. I especially enjoyed hearing some of her newer songs, as well as fresh arrangements of the standards she is known for. Her bassist and drummer were outstanding as well! Don't miss her when you have the chance!

  • Incredible Concert!!

by Ernie on 2/28/24Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I am a huge fan of Diana Krall and have been wanting to see her in concert for years! My kids got me tickets for Christmas and this was one of the best concerts I've ever been to!! The venue at the Tennesse Theater was convenient, the sound was fantastic and the overall experience was the best!!

  • Wonderful Show!

by TPete on 2/27/24Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana struck up a relationship with her audience immediately. A true professional! I felt like I was in her living room watching her peel off the songs and throw the sheets on the floor. Such a Lovely Soothing voice that draws you in to her style. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening with Diana and her amazing accompaniment.

  • Good, Not Great!

by LH on 2/27/24Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 3 out of 5

I have been a fan of Diana Krall for several years. I love her voice, so I was thrilled when she was in concert in Knoxville. I got tickets and drug my husband with me. She is very good, but has a very dry personality. This makes for a few odd moments and lulls in the show. Her bass player & drummer were fantastic. I’m glad I went but I would not go again, once was enough! That said, I would still recommend seeing her if you’re a fan!
