DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Lovely

by Donna on 3/14/24The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I like the fewer instruments setting that I experienced with Diana Krall, At the Paramount, One can appreciate the cleaner purer sound of the 1-3 instruments, As for Diana talking w audience, asking for requests, I felt it was nice & casual & why not?, It did feel more like a living room gathering in that way, Id also say, I dont mind if a performer stumbles, loses place, etc, They are not robots, If one wants a sterile music experience, perhaps a CD ?

Show of a lifetime. Supremely talented and cool, loved every minute! Made everyone feel like it was for them.

  • Love Diana Krall hated the venue

    by DeniseT7 on 3/13/24The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

As always Diana Krall was amazing! She was so much more personable than I've ever seen her. She didn't have her usual musicians with her but the two she had were great. We've seen her at many different venues and the Paramount in Huntington was by far the worst! Sad to say because I love seeing shows on Long Island. There's never any parking, but the seating was terrible! We had great seats, however your basically sitting on someone's lap and your legs are pushed up to your chest! It was awful, everyone seemed to have the same complaint.

  • Great music the vocals came up short

by Randy on 3/13/24The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Love her music but she seamed sad and the vocals came up short of my expectations

  • Love That Sultry Voice

by Jazzy C on 3/13/24St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 5 out of 5

Simply, great music by a great singer and down to earth and funny as well. Bravo!

  • Outrageously talented musician

by Music lover on 3/12/24St. George Theatre - Staten IslandRating: 5 out of 5

The St. George Theatre is a magnificent venue to see a show. When we are blessed with such a talented down to earth performer in this historic and acoustical perfect theater, magic occurs. Diana could perform the alphabet song and kill it. I hope she returns, we were moved by her ability to be so smooth and the musicians that accompanied her were incredible. It was apparent it was all about the music. Staten Island loves you! Perfection and vulnerability, one of the best shows I’ve attended at the venue. Effortless sultry and soulful come to mind, please come back!!!

  • In awe I was in the same room with Diana Krall

Concert was lovely. Loved her voice. Venue was Meh!

  • Not a good concert

by Chas on 3/12/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 1 out of 5

We have been to other Diana Krall concerts and enjoyed them. When she was scheduled at Wind Creek we wanted to see her again. What a waste of time and money! She did not have any other musicians with her and I believe it negatively impacted her performance. She asked for and got entirely too much audience participation. I did not pay $180.00 to hear the audience request songs. It seemed like she did not put in enough effort to put on a good show for her paying customers. I hope her other concerts in NJ are better that this one. Last time seeing Diana Krall!

  • Brilliant in a great venue

by Doc on 3/11/24Rating: 5 out of 5

We saw Diana at The Paramount in Huntington, NY on Long Island. It's a wonderful venue and the seats by the soundboard are the best for sound (obviously), but not the closest to the stage. The venue seats only 1500 people so you still feel near to her and the acoustic of the place are near perfect. This was the third time we saw her in the last 12 years and it felt the most intimate. She has a 3 piece band (her piano, drums, and stand up bass) that was excellent. It was the last show in this segment of the tour and she sounded terrific and looked great. Hard to believe she's almost 60. Diana played a number of American standards in the first segment of the concert. Her hands danced around the keys with lots of improvisation and chord changes, the essence of jazz. But, the band was practiced and knew exactly where she was at all times. Her voice was clear and her contralto conveyed real emotion. In the second part she played alone on the piano. As she noted, this felt like she was at home. It was pretty special to see her playing some of her favorite music including more contemporary artists like Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Bob Dylan. The last segment the other two band members came back and there were several more great standards including her favorite artist, Irving Berlin, and his great song "Let's Face The Music And Dance". The crowd roared as Diana came to the finale of her piano solo, certainly a high point. The last song of the encore was a surprise - The Band's Ophelia from their album Northern Lights - Southern Cross. It's an uptempo, 1930's shuffle and Diana and her band offered a rousing end to a great night,

  • Great performer! Great venue!

by Dr. Jeff on 3/11/24Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The intimate setting of the performance, the beautiful, jazzy voice of Diana Krall and the nostalgic venue of the Tennessee Theatre made for a perfect evening of entertainment!

  • Diana Kroll Amazing… upgrade to front row … terrible

by Jeff on 3/9/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 1 out of 5

We upgraded our seats to the front row and because of the height of the stage and the fact that she was behind her piano we couldn’t see her at all. She was absolutely amazing but Ticketmaster should not sell front row seats where you can’t see the artist.

  • Diana is the BEST

by Kaye on 3/5/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

She was wonderful! Her love of music really shines through, and her odes to recently deceased talents were very touching. We are blessed to have her with us still to call us to remember them. One gets the feeling that music to her is like breathing is to us as she masterfully weaves strings of notes here and there that are shout-outs to other songs. Listening to her live is an experience that should not be missed.

  • AMAZING!

by Karen on 3/5/24The Wind Creek Event Center - BethlehemRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall was absolutely AMAZING! What an incredible performer--loved her piano playing and interactions with the crowd.

  • Great concert!

by pj on 3/5/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

Diana is a wonderful performer. The concert was relaxed, low key and very unscripted. Much of the music was chosen by audience request, and Diana's talent shone as she easily switched gears between songs and keys. Even though the venue was small, the concert felt intimate and personal.

  • Diana Krall - Hershey, PA 03/02/24

by We Love Concerts on 3/5/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great concert! Diana Krall was pretty comical, down to earth and sang beautifully! Our only disappointment was that there was no accompanying symphony or even her usual trio. That being said, it was a great show and she sang all of our favorites!

  • An entertaining evening

by Lawman on 3/5/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 4 out of 5

First time seeing Diana Krall in concert and frankly, was concerned by the harsh reviews from earlier tour stops. She was on her game showcasing great keyboard skills and vocal stylings. I felt she was at her best when in full voice. She performed a great array of songs including many well known standards that drew the soldout audience into the show. Rousing applause brought her back for a satisfying encore set to cap an entertaining evening.

  • Can’t wait to see Diana again

by Bob on 3/5/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 5 out of 5

One of the most memorable concerts I’ve attended. Just Diana and the piano, displaying her amazing repertoire in her unique voice. She had a comfortable banter with the audience that felt like you were in her living room.

  • Surprised

by Hollis on 3/5/24Hershey Theatre - HersheyRating: 3 out of 5

I was very surprised that Diana Krall had no other musicians with her. I suppose I should have read the information on the concert more closely than I did. I was just so happy that she was performing in Pennsylvania that I jumped at the chance to attend a performance. I listen to her music often and the drums and bass add so much to the music. It certainly was a stripped down and casual concert, her performance was very quiet and relaxing to hear but just not was I expected.
