DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Marvelous

by Torito on 5/16/25Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

I almost flew to Prague last year to catch her show, but my plans fell through. The venue, ambiance and show were absolutely amazing. Every set was captivating and I'm definitely looking forward to her next show and my visit to the Humphreys.

  • Not a concert, more like a long album

by Blondewop on 5/16/25Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

She needs to engage the audience. She never stood up the entire time. It wasn’t a concert, she played an album for 2 hours. Very disappointed

  • Beautiful evening, soulful star under a full moon...

by Big Fan on 5/16/25Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

Diana Krall and her talented musicians never disappoint, however, she seemed to be whispering through many of her ballads, and her mic was not turned up enough. It was obvious that people in the venue were straining to hear and enjoy her voice. Sadly, she did not play Joni Mitchell's Case of You... my all-time favorite.

  • Lovely Evening

Diana Krall was brilliant as always. She surrounded herself with talented musicians and the intimate setting is our favorite.

  • Very disappointing

by BW on 5/12/25Rating: 3 out of 5

We saw Diana Krall in Mesa, AZ on 5/11/25 My husband is a big fan, so he was excited to attend. Right from the beginning we could hardly hear her speak, it seemed like she was mumbling or her microphone was not turned up. Then she started to sing, her voice was sub par and strained. The instrumentalist seemed to prop her up vocally by playing more than usual at times without her singing. The tempo of the music hardly changed and sounded redundant. It was a poor choice of songs, after a while it seemed like it droned on. The musicians were very good, but the concert itself was not good overall. Not sure what’s going on with her.

  • She seems to lost her voice

by John M on 5/9/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 2 out of 5

We saw her a couple of years ago and she had power and could hits the notes. Not this time, it was sad and at first we thought it was a microphone issue, but as the show continued you could tell her voice was raspy.

  • So short

by Elva on 5/9/25The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 2 out of 5

This concert was incredibly short. Not worth the money spent.

  • Great show , bad voice

by Concertgoer on 5/8/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Diana Krall at the Linda Ronstadt concert hall in Tucson, Arizona. She must’ve been having a problem with laryngitis or something, but her voice just did not sound like the way I known her to sound before in other concerts. The band was fantastic. The upright bass player was unbelievable, and so was the guitar player and the drummer. Diana‘s piano playing was magnificent, but her voice had a little to be desired. I’ve seen Diana before at other concert venues and her voice was fantastic but this time for some reason maybe there was just a problem not sure.

  • Diana Krall

by Dorg on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 2 out of 5

Diana's voice sounded tired. Liked her piano and the drummer, bassist and guitarist were excellent.

  • A Great Concert

by Read Ribbet on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

Krall was amazing and her fellow musicians were also great in their own right. It was the perfect venue for her performance. Using Blue Bayou as an ending encore seemed fitting!

  • Okay

by Stxdesertgirl on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

This concert was the third time I have seen Diana Krall. It appeared that she was not feeling well. In the beginning, she was almost whispering, and it was hard to hear her. I was somewhat disappointed in the concert. If she wasn’t feeling well, I hope she feels better now. Her voice definitely was not up to par.

  • Diana was not herself

by Concerned on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

I am sad to say that Diana Krall appeared perhaps, drunk or maybe high? She was slurring her speech and at times forgot lyrics. Apparently at the matinee the band had to stop and restart because she lost her place? I don't know, I went to the evening session. The musicians were great and she is a treasure, I hope she is able to rectify whatever was going on.

  • Disappointed

by donsey on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 1 out of 5

Sadly, we left the concert before it was over. Diana was not only late, but sounded terrible. She was off key several times and hard to understand the lyrics as she spoke some of the time. Her speech was slurred and she repeated a song twice, but did catch herself. Not sure what she may be suffering from. We walked away feeling empathetic for her.

  • What's Wrong With Diana?

by Diana Krall Fan on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 1 out of 5

Just not the same Diana. While the band was great, she really struggled on every level...singing (weak voice, no range), playing the piano and interacting with the audience. She also had trouble remembering the music and keeping up with the band. Had an entirely different experience a decade or so ago. We first thought she might have been intoxicated, but now fearing it could be something worse, like maybe dementia, based on other reviews we've read. We are so sad for her. She was such an amazing talent. To someone out there who loves her (Elvis?): Please get her help or just tell her it's time to retire.

  • Krall disappointment

by Chela on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 3 out of 5

Krall singing voice was not present at all. Her piano playing is great and the musicians were MAGNIFICENT . Performance started half hour late and lasted 1.5 hours.

  • Wonderful music, sound system needs improvement

by Mac on 5/7/25Linda Ronstadt Music Hall - TucsonRating: 4 out of 5

A highly talented group of musicians and a great collection of music. When Diana was talking, I could barely hear her and could not make out what she was saying. Sound system was set up for the instruments and her singing, but needed to boost her voice when talking to the audience.

Weak vocals. So much better previously. Drummer nailed it. Oh well, her cd's still be stellar

  • 69 years of concerts.

by fiendmyfiend on 5/6/25The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 3 out of 5

I am a big fan of Diana Krall and I am sad to say that I found the concert disapointing. She was not vocally strong in El Paso. Very breathy and left me hanging waiting for her stong vocals. The quartet was musically very good, but Ms. Krall was by far the weakest link. I hope it was just a bad night for her and not a harbinger of a declining vocal talent. Still, it was a pleasant evening.

Her back-up trio was awesome. She still sounds good.

  • Mucho Talent !

by zepotex on 5/6/25The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall concert El Paso Texas 2025. As a jazz aficionado I really enjoyed the professional quartet. Diana, with a smoky, raspy sweet voice and the wonderful unique sound; the pianist was absolute, and crystal at the keys of the Steinway piano. John Clayton at the standup bass was brilliant with original deep rich tones and flawless finger slides. I loved the bow cello sound added at times. Anthony Wilson played to the Gods with his custom "Radio Flyer"archtop guitar. It was a delight to hear him play each note ripping through scales with ease, precision and discipline. Jeff Hamilton at the drums kept the beat jazzy and led the quartet with perfect timing. His drum solo was dynamic. The solo of a master. His with brush strokes, taking you places in the music that drum sticks never go. Some will say Ms. Krall seems aloof with the audience, but the show was about talent. Watching listening to some of the top jazz musicians in the world!
