DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • DIANA WAS SHINING !!!!!

by WINKBWINK on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

I HAVE SEEN DIANA MANY TIMES LIVE. SAW HER WITH TONY BENNETT IN DENVER A FEW YEARS AGO. MOTHERHOOD REALLY FITS HER. SHE PLAYED WITH THE AUDIANCE IN A FISTY WAY. HER SENSE OF HUMOR IS WICKED, HER PIANO PLAYING AND SINGING ARE THE BEST I'V HEARD FROM HER. THE TRIO, AS ALWAYS, WAS RIGHT ON THEIR GAME. THE VENUE IN KETTERING OHIO, THE FRAZE PAVILION, WAS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE BEEN IN. OUTDOORS ON A SUPER EVENING WITH A FULL MOON. DIANA GLOWED IN THE MOONLIGHT. SHE ROCKS !!!!!!

What a show ! Diana Krall was amazing, great music, great humor, wonderful songs. Diana is magic on the piano. Was a great show , I loved the songs like "Let's Fall In Love", "Boy From Ipenema", some Nat King Cole songs ... along with the great backup of her trio. I enjoyed the music and you could not have ordered a better night in July then last night. I would recommend anyone who wants to see a great jazz , standards and love songs star to go see Diana Krall.

Nice jazz! Diana is a great musician and she communicates well with the other musicians.

  • Diana Krall doesn't disappoint

    by Wine01lover on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

From the opening number to the conclusion it was a nonstop journey through the best of the past, the best of contemporary jazz, mixed in with a taste or Diana's newest charts from her Quiet Nights disc. I have seen Diana before but this show really showcased the amazing talent that she is! Her vocal styling and her interpretation of jazz classics have set an even higher bar for those who claim to be in touch with "The Great American Songbook".

  • Diana Krall - a lovely evening

by gottagogirl on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

I enjoyed a lovely evening with my husband and friends on a spectacular summer evening. The artistry of Diana Krall and her awe-inspiring musicians was unforgettable. I smiled through the whole evening, as I drank-in beautiful lyrics and inspiring jazz sounds. An absolutely perfect summer concert, in a perfect setting. A night to remember.

  • Krall was good

by brunnegd on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

Very enjoyable show. Good jazz, good ballads. But Fraze needs to do something about all of the late arrivals. This is an issue at all of their shows. Don't seat anyone after the start of the show, or after the end of intermission. Krall made a comment about this as well. Sound volume was about right. I saw Koz and Culbertson on 6/26, and the sound was too loud to enjoy the show. The drums and bass made it impossible to hear Koz and Culbertson, which is why we attended.

  • Great evening

by JandD on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I, along with a niece and her friend, thoroughly enjoyed the DIana Krall concert. It was just what we expected, light jazz, great selection of music, DIana at her best. It was a laid-back pleasant evening--and being out in the beautiful summer evening was the icing on the cake.

  • A beautiful woman... a great time!

by HuffDaddy on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

The music was great. Her band was excellent. The stories were good. The crowd was older and for the most part well behaved. I just feel she could have played a little longer.

  • Diana is an amazing talent

    by VIKING61 on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

First time I have seen her in concert and it was great. She just draws you in with her wonderful voice and mastery of the keyboards. Not bad to look at either. I was surprised by her down to earth personality and sense of humor. Her backup instrumentalists were fabulous.

  • Diana Krall enthralled!

Great show. She was very engaging. Felt like I was spending a great evening with a friend!

  • I wish I could play piano like her!!

by JuJuBee on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

I had this silly little grin on my face from start to finish! I really enjoy Diana's voice and her piano playing. The evening went too quickly though with no opening act.

  • Diana Krall was amazing!!

by Jazzjunkie on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

This is the fourth time we have seen her in concert. The show is always new, fun and romantic. Not only can you tell she loves to play the piano by her amazing performance, but she has a sexy and sultry voice to go with it. Her band members are also fantastic. I am never disappointed.

  • Diana Krall is incredible

by glaible on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed the show. It was a wonderful setting at the Fraze Pavilion in Dayton, Ohio. We had never been there and it was very nice. A beautiful setting for a wonderful show.

  • Swonderful

by Pierre on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

We left early from the last Diana Krall event at the Fraze because of foul weather. Last night the weather was wonderful and so was Diana's singing. I think she's getting younger, too.

  • Was a wonderful summer evening.

Diana Krall was wonderful and her combo was great as well.

  • Krall is hard to beat on a great summer night

    by Blueridge1162 on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

This is the first time I've seen her in concert and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I like many of her songs and she makes the concert feel casual and personal with the comments she makes between songs. She is traveling with her sons and earlier in the day she took them to a local park and talked about it at the concert. Unfortunately she didn't play a few of my favorites but she also has a lot of great songs that she has to choose between for the concert. To quote from one of her songs, "Let's do it again."!

  • Diana Krall was excellent - audiance, not so much

by Farmboy on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall and the band put on an excellent concert. A great variety of her music as well as other famous artists. Unfortuanately, parts of the evening were spoiled by the "entitlement crowd" who arrived late, left early, and were constantly in and out of their seats throughout the show. Their behavior was disrespectful to the musicians as well as the rest of the audience. Perhaps those people who paid a lot of money fo good seats should have used the money to buy a watch and hire someone to teach them how to tell time.

  • Diana Krall was magic

by photopilot on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

Diana Krall and her 3 colleagues put on a very pleasant show last night at the Fraze in Kettering, OH. They played a long and varied set of music for over and hour and a half and then a couple of encores.

  • ENJOYABLE EVENING WITH DAINA KRALL

by CARMAN on 7/8/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 4 out of 5

MUSIC WAS AMAZING AND THE SOUND SYSTEM WAS VERY TRUE AND COMPLIMENTED THE MUSICANS ABILITY.
