DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Diana Krall is sooo talented!

by BABS2 on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Diane Krall was incredible. The combination of her music in an outdoor amphitheater, under the stars, was magical. Her band members are immensely talented and she highlights them in a lovely way. The Atlanta Symphony played along with Diana on many songs and that was very lovely as well. A most enjoyable evening.

  • Diana Krall is queen

by DKFan on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

When Diana Krall is on and focused, she is the most amazing jazz performer around today. And she was all of that and more Saturday nite at Chastain Park in Atlanta. I can't decide which is better, her voice or her skills as a pianist. I have seen her twice when she was great, and once in between when she was awful. She surely seems to be back in form, maybe motherhood is helping, who knows. But she was indeed terrific performing with part of the Atlanta Symphony. Great stuff for jazz lovers.

  • Krall provided romantic evening

by gardgirl32 on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

My husband and I enjoyed the classic jazzy sounds of the ASO and Diana Krall very very much. Her voice improved with each song, and her piano/band was terrific! The ASO provided their usual excellent back ground instrumentation. loved every minute!

The Diana Krall concert was amazing! She has a fabulous voice and a nice relaxing concert. Great date night with someone special, my husband! It was our first time to Chastain Park, but we will definitely go again, and be prepared with our dinner, cooler and candles!!! Great place to go with friends and have a great time! Very special place!

  • Diana Krall amazing

by peach47 on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

From start to finish Diana Krall was truly amazing. The ASO was a great addition to her songs as well. Her sounds are so smooth and her piano playing is remarkable. She sang her heart out and truly enjoys what she does. Her selections were good, but would have enjoyed some of her older songs.

  • Romantic Diana Krall

by OldSkoolMusicGuy on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

My wife and I had a very satisfying time at the Diana Krall concert. Her performance was top quality, as was the other members of her group and the orchestra. Overall, the sound quality was only fair, though. It seems a piano suffers acoustically from outdoor amplification. The stage lighting was exotic and mirrored the musicality. But the lighting of the performers was at times terrible and jolting to both the musicians and the audience. Sometimes it seemed as though someone just walked in and threw a switch to see where they were going, unaware that a concert was taking place. Speaking of lighting, as it drew nearer to darkness, we became aware that a pair of floodlights against the walls under striped awnings, just behind us were blazing into the audience, and from each side of the venue! There is no excuse for such harsh light to be so close to such an intimate experience, one in which the use of candles is encouraged. Is it not possible to redirect, shield or, better still, vastly lower the wattage? How often has this complaint been made? The staff and ushers were, as always, very helpful and accommodating. The setting, first rate.

  • Diana Krall was magical!!!

by Cleopatra on 7/12/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall was as fantastic in person as on her CD's, even more so. The venue @ Fraze Pavillion is my favorite place to experience an artist. You could here a pin drop in the audience while she was performing. My date and I were both mesmerized. I hope she returns next year!

  • Not so hot

by PDLJr on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

Diana great on the pianot, but her CDs are much better than this live performance. Atlanta POPs ensamble were magnificent.

  • Diana Krall at Chastain

by brerizz656 on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I enjoyed every moment of this amazing concert. I was so excited to see Diana Krall live! The venue (Chastain Park) was also beautiful, the evening weather perfect. It was nice to enjoy the music with food and drinks freely available. The atmosphere, however, was almost too casual, as it took several numbers into the performance for areas of the audience to quiet down and give due respect to the artists. This was finally resolved by the star and after that moment, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

  • Date night at Chastain

by docnurse on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Chastain is an all time favorite for date night.. Diana Krall's sexy voice and music added to the ambience. This intimate outdoor venue is made complete with great food and wine. you can tell the proletariats bring pizza and beer... but the upscale crowd is all about gourmet dining.

  • Great Evening

  • Diana was topnotch entertainment

by Atlantanana on 7/12/09Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Diana is heavenly to listen to but even more so in person. As an entertainer she is right up there with the greatest and at the same time one of us as she shares little tidbit moments of her life. The mixture of song choices blending the old with the new, the romantic with the frantic, is a great combination to appeal to the whole audience. Her piano skills were enhanced by her talented backup musicians and of course the Atlanta Symphony Pops Orchestra. A must see for anyone that appreciates great talent!

  • wow, diana!

  • Diana Krall is spectacular

by Delmo on 7/11/09Fraze Pavilion - KetteringRating: 5 out of 5

I began following Diana because I am a Jazz piano fan. She is one of the top jazz pianists in the world! However, her singing, interpretations and musicianship are likewise astounding. Her quartet is tight and talented, reacting to her head nod cues and her invitations to solo. The show was overwhelming and just right. I'm old enough to be her father and I could listen to her every day. Come to think of it, I do!

10 years ago diana krall asked by fiance to fly in her private jet with her to do a concert however he did not know who she was and declined... fast forward 10 years and still his fixation with this story still mesmerizes him ...thus for his valentines day present -I surprised him with 2 tickets and flew him to vancouver to see her in concert to fulfill his fantasy fixation- needless to say it was a success and he loved every minute!
