DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT
Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.
Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).
Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

First time hearing Diana Krall in concert. Despite having a cold I thought she performed beautifully!
I decided to attend the concert on a whim and I am so glad I did. Ms. Krall was fantastic and a joy to listen to. I highly recommend catching her in concert if you can!
Diana Krall with a symphony and some talented cats on guitar, drums and bass. The light show was spectacularly appropriate for each song, setting the mood as the sun set on a hot July night in Atlanta GA. An awesome performance with encore, a spellbinding evening that ended all too soon. Bravo!!!
DK & Band simply superb, engaging and entertaining. Pavilion is equally wonderful place to watch/listen. Intimate venue.
I had once considered Diana Krall to be a singer who happened to play piano. Now I consider her to be a jazz pianist who happens to sing. I would love to see her in a strictly jazz setting where she only played the piano!! Her "comps" when she backed up the guitarist were outstanding!! If I were playing with her behind me I would either be intimidated or spurred to greater creativity!!
Saw Diana Krall at NTelos in Portsmouth. Pretty venue, right on the water - but outdoor ampitheater not best acoustics for jazz quartet. She had a bit of a summer cold - but sang well, played well - and the accompanying quartet was outstanding! Good song selection also - told some funny stories. Overall - fun night, would definitely recommend Diana Krall!
She's an amazing singer and jazz pianist. The evening was cool, with a breeze. The pavilion in Portsmouth is a great venue. It's small, parking is a very short walk and the sound is perfect.
Even though she was fighting a cold, she delivered an excellent show at the stanley theater in Utica New York. Had great seats right in the center and the hour and a half flew by listening to her sing the great songs!
It was a wonderful evening; beautiful music and beautiful venue. The weather was perfect, the only thing that could have made it better is if our seats were closer!
The Stanley is a great venue to hear any artist. The staff is super at getting you to your seats quickly, plenty of parking. Diana and her band were superb, songs, lighting, her banter with the audience. The performance was top notch.
It's a MUST see!!!! It was awesome!!! Diana did it again~!
Even though she was suffering with a cold she went out & put on an amazing show. Her ensemble is very good & enjoyable to listen to. It is easy to tell she very much enjoys entertaining & she is very good at it. It was worth the trip in from Syracuse for my wife & myself.
Exellecent show. Ms. Krall was outstanding and put on a great performance. It was beyond our expectations.
Listening to her CD or watching her on DVD is enjoyable. But, seeing the Diana Krall quartet in person was somwthing I will never forget. It's a show that you do not want to end.
I'm a Diana Krall newbie so i didn't identify any of her songs except for the encore, which it was all very nice, and it was an amazing performance. The venue (Utica) was nice, although lots of elderly people were getting up and walking in and out of the auditorium during the performance. I had to have been the only person under the age of 50 over there... and I'm in my late 20's. That said, I was very happy to be one of the few Uticanites that actually sat through the entire concert. I just wish that the area had enough decent jobs that my friends could have afforded to attend this pearl of a concert. This would have been a great date night for many of them.
Although she had a cold the night of the concert, she was still able to put on a wonderful show. She is a true professional and I would definitely see her again.
Enjoyed every minute!!! My only complaint is that it was too short!!!
The newly renovated Stanley is beautiful and though it is a large space the concert with Diana Krall still felt intimate. Her piano and vocals are amazing and her fellow musicians are pretty good too.
Even though she had the flu she managed to make me sing and smile for the entire time she was on the stage. I am sure she could have been a bit more vocally vibrant but I chalk that up to her malady, and I was still very amazed by the smooth style that has come to be her trademark. Cant wait till she does her next concert tour!
We were disappointed in the concert only because Diana Krall was not feeling well and her voice was very much affected.
