DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT
Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.
Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).
Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

Diana has a spectacular voice and is amazing on the piano!
Such a wonderful voice and a great band, I would love to see her in a smaller venue.
Charming, Talented & Brilliant! Her recorded albums don't do her enough justice-she is AMAZING LIVE!
No opening act, show started around 815. She was amazing and very, very talkative with audience. This was a first for me, having seen her 4 other times. She did mostly older stuff, 1 Tom Waits cover. One encore as well. I wasn't disappointed.
Diana Krall has the most amazing, sultry voice. It wasn't just her singing though, she has an incredible sense of humor and her band comes second to none. Diana and her band are awesome mucisians. It was an incredible show and we would go to see her again.
PIANO PLAYING EXCELLENT VOICE GREAT WILSON GREAT ON GUITAR BASS PLAYER NEEDS TO SPEND MORE TIME LEARNING AND PLAYING THE MELODY,LIKE EDDIE GOMEZ THEATER SOUND SYSTEM WAS FAIR. NEEDS HIGH FREQENCY ABSORPTION. THE MID AND HIGHS WERE OVERWHELMING AT TIMES.
This is the 3rd time we have seen Diana Krall perform live. This was her best performance by far in terms of stage presence and interaction with the crowd. Previous performances, she seemed aloof and didn't interact with the audience. It seems her marriage and having twin boys has made it easier for her to chat with her audience. Her piano and vocal music were great as usual and her backup musicians supported her well.
We're big Diana Krall fans. Love her voice and her musical interpretation, but this concert seemed a little flat. The venue was a little too big for her style. The intimacy didn't translate to the upper level. Seemed short for the ticket price. My expectations were much higher.
After paying over $250 for the concert ($125 each + fees) we arrived to see a mediocre show at best. We saw her last year at Red Rocks and loved it (even in the pourting rain). This year it seemed that her band played more than she did and we came to hear HER sing, not listen to the band (even though they were excellent). She seemed to be kind of out of it and lost her place from time to time. Only got to hear maybe 8 songs(?) and not a lot of vocals and she was done. More than a little disappointed. Wouldn't go back again.
Diana was fantastic as usual. She blended a lot of old favorites with standards. The band was tight and with it. Diana had a bit of altitude adjustments to make, as she apparently lost her breath a few times early on. But, she just laughed about it and made fun of the whole situation. She played for nearly an hour and a half before leaving the stage and came back for 1 short encore. The only thing that was bad was she only played one encore and that she could have played longer. The whole show was over fairly abrubtly.
Diana was great - she has become more adept at chatting with the audience- but it's her fabulous voice and piano playing that matters. She is a class act and always has the best musicians accompanying her. Made my day.
This concert is true to its name, Quiet Nights. Those requiring high energy and lots of production need not attend. I was truly mesmerized by Diana Krall and her extremely talented band members. Between most songs, she engaged the audience with humor and personal tidbits of her life. If you love this genre, you'll love this concert.
Have waited to see her for a long time. Loved the show - AWESOME musicians and great content, wish it had been a little longer. Diana is very funny and entertaining!
Understand the laid back understated presence was/is her style, however, she gave me the impression she was just trying to get it over with, collect her money, and go on to the next gig. It seemed to like she was almost too exhausted to perform. Bottom like for me is I wouldn't pay to see her again.
Krall sang a 1 1/2 hour single set which left the audience begging for more. Despite the obvious exhaustion showing in her voice and patter, her emotional connection with the audience is unbroken. Ranging from standards to bossa nova her piano and voice excel. The show would have benefited by y a leadoff group or other entertainment to make more complete night. She is a unique, fascinating and enthralling talent.
Diana Krall possesses a voice like no other these days. Her ease with the audience, quick wit and big sound all made for a wonderful evening.
As always Diana looked amazing, Her voice as sultry as ever. With Jeff Hamilton on the drums the music filled the Wells Fargo Auditorium with beautiful sounds. I would like to have heard Diana play more up tempo songs. The venue was a bit warm inside putting everyone in a tired state, with Diana beautiful misic is was easy to find yourself dosing off. Diana keep it up but add a bit more "Life" to your performance....
This is the 3rd DK concert I've attended. Her style and attitude make her concerts like sitting in your living room. She is so real and down to earth and her music reflects that weather she is doing a Sinatra tune or playing "Don't Fence Me In". What a treat - we bought Quiet Nights as soon as it came out and it's a winner.
The show was definitely superb. Diana's playing was on the money while Anthony, Jeff and John were exceptional. The combination does not get much better then this quartet. The venue helped make the experience even better. All in all just fantastic!
A good performance by Diana Krall. Enjoyed it, but the venue was a little to large for her audiance. Also I think the altitude and dry weather hurt her ability to sing. Though overall still an impressive talent.
