DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Diana Krall was beautiful and talented!

by msmith91942 on 8/11/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

From the moment she stepped onto the stage till the moment she left I was awed by her beauty and talent. The way her fingers danced across the piano keys was simply amazing. Her soft sultry voice carried me to a different place in time. Her bandmates were a perfect compliment to her. All of them talented in their own right. There were a couple songs I was hoping for that she didn't play, but all in all, I was very pleased. It was an unforgettable night.

  • Diana at her best

by Oldie on 8/11/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

This concert is not what I expect. I have always known that Diana is a very good singer, but I love her as a musician. Her little band is amazing. Another next surprise is the Peral Concert Theater, it is so cozy and every seat is a good seat. I love it much more than the other Diana concert that we went to at Tahoe.

  • Diana transcends an awful venue

by dolceninja on 8/11/09Wells Fargo Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Diana performed a wonderful set of selections from various albums that blended together very well. She was also very entertaining with stories between songs. All the musicians were excellent and were highlighted on various pieces. The venue has terrible sound, bad sight lines from the flat floor in front and the wide angle of the auditorium. Getting to the venue involved a long walk along a busy street under the building. This venue is an insult to artists and their fans.

DULL, my husband fell asleep. She has a very weak voice!

  • Loved the hair!

Listening to Diana Krall in person, seeing her beautifully dextrous fingers tickle the ivories and feeling the soft evening breeze of San Diego while sitting in the outdoor amphitheatre at Humphrey''s all brought a sense of delight for me throughout the entire performance. I am especially grateful that Diana shared stories of her life with her twin sons and husband--it provided me the experience of being in an intimate setting in a far away venue with just a "few friends".

  • Diana Krall-Very talented

by Sunnier on 8/11/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I wondered as I left the show if Diana has been doing this too long? She is undoubtedly uber talented. I love seeing this come across on stage. But I think to make a performance great, it helps to have a few butterflies. For me Diana came across as so comfortable, that the performance was a bit sloppy. I hoped to see more fire and passion communicated to the audience. Something like, "I am so good I could be doing this anywhere but I want to be here with you now more than ever - lets play some awesome music." I didn't feel the love that night, but I would still go see her again, because I know she has it in her, and I wouldn't want to miss it when she really shows up for the crowd.

  • Diana Krall is a goddess and a true work of art!

by PurpleP on 8/11/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

What a splendid evening of music and ambiance at Humphreys last night, as all in attendance were treated to the honey sweet tones of a true artiste! World class talent in a special package as her vocals and piano fell over the crowd like a soft, comfortable blanket. This woman sounds like no one else on earth - what a treat to hear a unique presentation so original. Humphreys never fails to deliver a superior sound system special evening of music. Lovers of music embraced eachother throughout the show as Diana Krall enthralled us all with her pure tones and sweet vibe. What a great concert!

What a concert!! Diana Krall was fantastic along with her band. Look forward to seeing her again.

  • she was great... sound was so so....

by plumb on 8/11/09Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

Perhaps they were trying to honor the mixing of the 60s.... but the first few songs of the concert sounded very compressed and tinny.... very distracting. ... It got better as the concert progressed.

That was the greatest concert to go to if you just wanted to take a nap. I suggest a park venue on a Sunday afternoon next time at, say, $20? $99 was just too damn expensive considering the alternative venues and great talent we currently have in San Diego. I much prefer Dizzy's or Anthology's house band. Has the stage presence of Sheryl Crowe, which we also left early on.

  • Diana was excellent!

The concert was absolutely wonderful and better than what I expected! And I loved her pink shoes!

  • Krall dazzled

by baldsingger on 8/10/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

Diana Krall wowed the audience saturday night at The Pearl! Her love of music was obvious as she tickeled the ivory keys, often with her eyes closed, enjoying the sounds as much as the audience. Her "three man band" was also very talented and added to her performance. The Pearl was the classy setting that Krall's music deserved and was the best possible venue for her event. Her renditions of classic Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Burt Bacharach ballads were terrific and you could hear a pin drop in the theatre as her sultry voice hypnotized the audience. It was a great show and I hope to see her again soon.

Diana really knows how to work. Her concentration is incredible with the change of styles of each song she really puts in the mood of the song. And when she played the Tom Waites song she gave it her own flair. The band flowed along with her playing improv through the show. The Pearl has a great sound.

  • diana krall is back

by stbarths on 8/10/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Diana in New Orleans 7 years ago ane enjoyed her then. I seemed to loose the interest. Now after seeing her at the Pearl our relationship is back. Her talent on the piano is just amazing. The band all seem to be on the same page as she, with their own amazing talents. She seems to be comfortable with the audience these days, and was funny with a few stories of her children. Her dvd Live in Rio, gives a glimpse of the concert songs and is beautiful. If you enjoyed Live in Paris you will like it. I will play Quiet Nights now as I did The Look of Love till it is all scratched and worn out. Go see for yourself. I think she is back!

  • DIANA KRALL NO LOOK OF LOVE

by DAWND228 on 8/9/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 1 out of 5

IF YOU LIKE HEAVY JAZZ YOU WILL ENJOY THE FIRST HALF OF THIS CONCERT; BUT ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I WENT WAS TO HEAR HER SONG WHAT SHE IS KNOW FOR THE REMAKE "LOOK OF LOVE" AND SHE DIDNT EVEN SING IT. WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED, WOULD NEVER GO TO HER CONCERT OR PAY $100 PER TICKET EVER AGAIN! ASIDE FROM THE MUSIC, SHE HAS A VERY DRY NO PERSONALITY ON STAGE. . .SADE, GLADYS KNIGHT BLOWS THIS CONCERT AWAY.

Diana Krall playing piano and singing right in front of me in an intimate venue was so beautiful. When she sang "the night we called it a day" , I realized my jaw had dropped- I had to close my mouth! You could have heard a pin drop. Before this concert, I had just heard her recordings. I loved that there were only 4 musicians playing with her last night- they were amazingly gifted too. She's got pipes and a remarkable gift!! Thank you Diana Krall for coming to Vegas!!

  • Diana Krall, perfect.....

by kokadee on 8/9/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

I wasn't sure what to expect when going to see diana Krall. She played every song with fluidity and grace, and her voice was just as sultry and sexy as on her CD's. Completely happy!!! Felt like she was playing for me in my own home..

  • Diana Krall at the Pearl at The Palms Casino

by Slounge on 8/9/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

First off, The Pearl at the Palms Casino is an amazing venue! All the seats appeared to have a great view. The setting was intimate, the sound was excellent and the acoustic was great. Diana Krall sounds great in concert and her expertise on the piano was masterful. Her band was awesome as well. Great concert. Would recommend.

  • Diana Krall--first rate jazz concert

by centralcalfan on 8/9/09Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las VegasRating: 4 out of 5

Diana and her back up of Anthony, Jeff and Robert, were tight, spot on. I enjoyed hearing more of Diana's musicianship on piano, as well as the solos from her team. Amazing that she can put her soul into these concerts with twins tagging along on the tour. The Pearl Theater had uncomfortable folding seats on the floor. Air conditioning was set rather low, and became uncomfortable for me. An intermission would have made it more bearable. Three years ago, the Hilton was a much better venue for Diana.

An amazing group of musicians! They came to perform, little talk. Started almost 30 minutes late. Professional courtesy would have been to acknowledge the delay but nothng was said.
