About

DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Ms. Krall and band were EXCELLENT.

by Kat on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was stupendous and very enjoyable. There appeared to be an issue with the microphones, the drums overpowered the other two performers at times. The drummer was very good, it was the sound that drowned out the others at times. We are great fans of Diana Krall and have been for years. We appreciate Diana doing a concert in Ft. Lauderdale. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

  • Broward Center - Great venue for music

by rtf019 on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 4 out of 5

The Broward Center is an excellent venue for music. Great sound, comfort chairs and good sight lines. Diana Krall sounded great here, I would have like her to play some of her more uptempo songs but overall a fun evening.

  • Third concert with Diana

Little disappointed. Voice has changed. Would have enjoyed more interaction with the audience Still love her music

a great artist in a wrong setting. the venue was too big for a jazz triooin a dimly lighted stage. Also a 2 hour performance without a break is more than most older people can handle and oh yes turn up the heat - the place was freezing

  • Absolutely amazing!!

by Jordi on 2/19/24Rating: 5 out of 5

Amazing night, she performed flawlessly, great selection of songs, great sound, great everything!!! This night will live forever in my heart, what a great experience!! My favorite part was when she performed a Tom Waits song, just wow!!!!

  • Disappointed

by Sad in Seattle on 8/30/23Rating: 2 out of 5

I want to think that Diana Krall was just having an off night. But reading other reviews, it may be that she is having an off season :(. In Seattle she was having difficulty at times articulating lyrics, and the piano did not have her characteristic sizzle. I am not sure Diana Krall wanted to be at the Chateau Ste Michelle winery for our event. I am sad to say that, by mid-way through the concert it was evident that a large number of people did not want to be there either, and they were leaving early (as did we.) I do hope that things turn around for her, but not sure we will be in a position to pay the expected price for a repeat performance of this quality. I am so disappointed as we and our fiends have loved her music for many years. This night's performance was far below what we have experienced in past events.

  • No big screens

    by Denise V on 8/16/23Rating: 3 out of 5

I was disappointed the big screens were not up. I could not see!

  • SOUND

by JANIS on 8/16/23Rating: 3 out of 5

It was disappointing not to be able to hear her words. That is, if I knew the song, I could make out the words but if I was unfamiliar with the song, I couldn't understand what she was "saying"". Also, too many sad songs.

  • Disappointing Performance

by James on 8/15/23Rating: 2 out of 5

Diana’s performance was very disappointing. She was acting very peculiar and not able to complete full sentence when speaking. I am a fan of her improvising and vocals on her recordings but her live performance this night did not hold up to par. She was playing very timidly and her fellow musicians seemed to be putting on the show for her.

  • Disappointed

by Gio on 8/13/23Rating: 1 out of 5

Very disappointed, I feel that her performance fell real flat. She seemed sick, drugged or drunk. Her piano playing was fine, but nothing to compare with her singing, which is why we came to see her (SING!!). She barely sang any lyrics, did not engage with the audience at all. She fumbled words & music notes, even apologizing to her fellow musicians. The other musicians were fantastic, but if I wanted to see a jazz band, I would’ve stayed in New York City. Most likely will never go to one of her concerts again.

  • Fantastic

by Rabbi Sam on 8/13/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Great succinct concert. No fuss, no excessive talk, just great performance by Diana and her band.

  • Bravo !

by Angie on 8/12/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I could se her every night of the week and never get tired of her. Her and her band of players were excellent as always.

  • Disappointed

by Fred on 8/12/23Rating: 3 out of 5

The band was excellent, the venue was fine but I feel like Diana mailed it in at the end of her tour

  • Good show but… something was missing

by DanC on 8/12/23Rating: 4 out of 5

A nice evening of jazz with excellent musicians. Her selection of songs from her incredible repertoire could have been better… she missed the spark!

  • Diana is phenomenal

by Grandma Nancy M on 8/12/23Rating: 5 out of 5

We love Diana Krall and it was great to see her in New Jersey where we live The theater is terrific Parking is tough but we did get a free spot on a street 3 blocks away Staff is friendly and helpful I did have difficulty hearing her at times Not sure if it was her microphone since I had no trouble hearing the band and we were in the 7th row center It was still a fantastic concert

  • Rather watch her on YouTube!

    by Drum 1 on 8/12/23Rating: 2 out of 5

I’ve seen Diana many times in the past and maybe she was just tired?! But it was a very lackluster show and was disappointed in the energy level in her vocals and piano playing! Even Anthony Wilson on guitar seemed to be going through the motions… The drummer was fine but was overplaying on his solo moments! Along with being repetitious… The bass player did a nice job! Nothing was really swinging like in the past! Hope it was just an off night which can happen… but we all expected more especially from where we came from to see her … not to mention the high cost of the money spent on tickets and travel to get down to Red Bank NJ! Best wishes and hope she keeps things together moving forward!

  • Last of the giants!

by Maltz on 8/12/23Rating: 5 out of 5

She was superb. Unfortunately, most of the crowd was dressed for a Yankees game. To make things worse, they served popcorn during the concert. So rude. No class....but Krall was ALL CLASS!

  • Needed more of HER

by Art on 8/12/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Enjoyed her voice immensely, but needed more of it and less of the talented jazz ensemble. Song selection was excellent as it was Sinatra standards as sung by Tony Bennett. Would enjoy her speaking more with insider stories such as her early recognition by Clint Eastwood when I first heard her rich voice. Liked her best vocalizing in Paris years ago. Her piano playing is par excellence.

  • A boring performance

    by Steve L on 8/12/23Rating: 3 out of 5

Although the musicianship was outstanding, the vocals lacked a dynamic and projection that would have lead to a fulfilling performance. I walked away somewhat disappointed.

  • So sad

by Greg on 8/12/23Rating: 1 out of 5

I was so excited to see Diana Krall. She obviously wasn’t excited to see us. She was either high or drunk or both. Totally disinterested and out of it. The band was good, but I just felt sorry for them. We left halfway through.
