About

DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • very enjoyable

The evening with Diana Krall was everything I expected. I have been a fan for several years and was not disappointed. The one song I would I like to have heard was"Peel Me a Grape".

  • Fantastic

Very entertaining! Especially enjoyed the mini-jam sessions. Felt like I was sitting at a table at an intimate, dark, cozy nightclub. It was money well-spent. Thank you, Diana Krall. Come back soon.

I always enjoy her shows however between not hearing what she was saying and her forgetting the words to at least one song i was not as pleased this time. She hid behind her hair and mumbled. Not what i expected.

  • Disappointed

by Roz on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

I was very disappointed in Diana Krall's performance. It sounded as if she is having a problem with her voice. It was raspier than ever before and she spoke several of the songs instead of singing them. I did like her selection of music , but not the performance.

  • Diana Krall performance

by Hk on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 2 out of 5

Disappointing performance. Poor, volume for voice and piano. Made no attempt to share any personal information with the audience. Basically played through the performance mechanically. wasted evening.

  • Diana Krall Concert Review: A Mix of Magic and Mishaps

by Jim on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall's recent concert was a captivating showcase of her mesmerizing vocal talents. Her voice sounded fabulous, effortlessly weaving through each note with precision and grace, enveloping the audience in a spellbinding embrace. However, amidst the brilliance of her performance, there were some noticeable hiccups. Krall had a habit of chatting while the audience was still applauding, leaving many scratching their heads. Transitions between songs were occasionally abrupt, and her impromptu song request session turned into a chaotic shouting match. Despite these quirks, Krall's undeniable talent shone through, making for a memorable evening filled with moments of musical brilliance. Her flawless voice remained the highlight of the night, leaving listeners spellbound until the final note faded away.

  • just a trio?

by avid fan on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

I am an avid fan of Ms. Krall and have been to several of her performances. I missed the guitar and the variety that was a mainstay of her concerts. Simply a trio with no other sonic effects, ie. strings, additional percussion, guitar was a letdown to me.

  • Wonderful!

by HornLady on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

What a wonderful concert! The smooth vocal and Piano stylings of Diana Krall, a great drummer and bass player and she even asked for requests from the audience. Doesn’t get much better.

  • Not the Diana Krall that I have seen in the past

by Disappointed in Diana on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 2 out of 5

Let me preface this review by saying that I have been a huge fan of Diana Krall for decades and have even seen her at this particular venue in the past. The Diana that took the stage this time was very different...disengaged with the audience, unable to remember the lyrics to some of her songs...most notably, Peel Me a Grape. She barely made eye contact with the audience and seemed like she wanted to be somewhere else. I had been waiting with anticipation to see her perform again, and was so very disappointed. To say that I struggled to stay for the entire show is an understatement and I know for certain that others attending shared my same sentiments. When she did sing, there were many songs that I could not even understand because she was either slurring or sang so softly. I am hoping that she is ok health wise and if she is not, perhaps she should take some time from the stage to take care of herself.

  • Extremely Memorable

by Philip Berry on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana’s performance was so enjoyable. She performed with the same class and artistry that she is known for over the years. Even though it was in a big venue she made it intimate by asking the audience to recommend a few tunes to play. She was fantastic.

  • Great talent, enjoyable concert

by Jazz Lover on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

Diana is a gifted entertainer. Excellent piano skills and a beautiful dynamic voice. I have most of her recordings but an in person concert was a new dynamic. Highly recommended.

  • Mumble Mic

by Jules on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

She is an amazing artist and the third time we have seen her but this performance was so lacking in her wanting to but on a show. Piano playing was great but she mumbled most of the time. I get that she might have had a bad day but if not for the ushers running around trying to keep people from video, I would have fallen asleep. Saw at least three couples leave with in 20 mins of the start.

  • Very disappointing

by Vick on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 2 out of 5

We expected a lot more from this concert; we listen to Diana Krall all the time at home, but the concert was complete disappointment. The band was missing a guitar player; Diana Krall did not sound herself, we left before the concert ended.

  • a little disappointed

by Isa on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

I love Diana Krall's music and have listened to her for years. This was the first time I saw her in person and was a little disappointed by her performance. The musicians who accompanied her were fantastic and so was her piano playing but her voice is horrible live - so out of tune. She has no stage presence and is very awkward saying maybe 3 things to the audience. I would not go see her live again. I also think the Broward Center needs to fix the situation in the parking lot. Getting in and out is a nightmare!

  • impressed by all players

by mp on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 4 out of 5

Diana Krall should move from her piano bench and create an intimacy with the public

  • it was awwright

by CarlC on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

Dianna is an amazing, gifted pianist. The performance as a whole had no climax, no ups & downs. It was like listening to a monotone speech. Her appearance was like she "just rolled out of bed", and her voice lacked any emotion or range. Yes, it was breathy and somewhat sultry, but her vocals were sometimes undistinguishable, as if she had taken a few "hits' before coming on to the stage. I can say that I saw her...but not again.

  • Bad moment

by Cyrano on 2/22/24Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft LauderdaleRating: 1 out of 5

I don’t know what happened in the last concert in Ft. Lauderdale. She was very low, her band was not complete. Many people was dissatisfied. I am her loyal fan. But the last event was not a good concert.

  • Fantastic Evening

Diana Krall did not disappoint! Soulful, Eclectic, and of course Jazzy! We will definitely not miss her next time around!!
