Detroit Red Wings History

Founded in 1926, the Red Wings are one of the NHL's Original Six franchises. The team has captured 11 Stanley Cup Championships, most recently in 2008, as well as six conference championships and 19 division titles. As of 2023, the Red Wings have the most Stanley Cup trophies of any U.S.-based NHL franchise. Eight Red Wings players have their jersey numbers hanging from the Little Caesars Arena rafters: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly, Terry Sawchuk, Nicklas Lidström, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Sid Abel, and Steve Yzerman.

The Red Wings were purchased in 1982 by Mike and Marian Ilitch, who invested their family savings in 1959 to open the first Little Caesars store in a Detroit suburb.

Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena

The Detroit Red Wings have played their home games at Little Caesars Arena in the heart of downtown Detroit since the 2017–2018 season. Little Caesars Arena is an anchor of a world-class sports and entertainment district known as The District Detroit and received the prestigious Sports Facility of the Year award at the 2018 Sports Business Awards Ceremony. The arena's construction also gave the city of Detroit the unique distinction of having the greatest density of professional sports teams — the Red Wings, Tigers (MLB), Pistons (NBA), and Lions (NFL) — in one downtown core in the country.

    Great show!

by Nate on 2/14/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Visiting from canada, had a great time! Excellent production values, great lighting effects, sounded pretty good though the low end was a little weak. Loved the video teams efforts with the George bit!

Don’t come hungry! Prices are ridiculous

by Ellebelle on 1/27/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

It was a great game and experience but the concessions are beyond expensive. Beer is about $13-$15/cup. Small bag of nuts $7, large pop is $9, small bag of popcorn is $6. It’s crazy that the venue can charge these prices.

    Worth the Trip!

We traveled 5 hours to see the Red Wings; and while they didn’t win, we had a great time! The arena experience was fantastic.

It was a great family event

by Mishy Wishy on 1/17/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

The venue is amazing and very interactive for kids. It's clean and has food and beverage options spaced throughout. I have two items that could be better. First is the ticketing system. You must use your phone to enter with the app. While this is fine for me, I always feel bad for people (elderly mostly) that are not comfortable with technology, so they miss out. I don't know if there is a work-around, but there should be. Next was the area dedicated for Uber. If you are going to have a designated place for Uber pickup, DON'T CLOSE THAT STREET. So many people had to walk-run to try and find their car since the drivers could not get to the designated spot. Other than that, all good.

    Nice arena!

by Ryan M on 1/17/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

It was a very nice arena but the portal system was silly. It made no sense.

    Lower Bowl

by Red Wing Guy on 1/17/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

This was the 1st time we sat in lower bowl, all others were in upper deck. The seats were more comfortable but not as wide as The Joe. Just think how remarkable the Arena would have been if they'd showed a little love to those seating upstairs. Ok, enough for the past on 2 the present: our seats were row 16, high enough to track the puck and high enough to see and follow action at the other goal. Looking up and around i really was impressed with the Arena and outside the concourses were extra wide as not to be clostraphobic. After experiencing top and bottom seats I'd give it a 8.3 out of 10

Just a beautiful night out! The atmosphere is wonderful and the game was exciting.

    good game

by Rob on 1/15/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

The event was good and a lot of excitement. It is disappointing that the Canadian Club concession stand no longer serves Canadian Club whiskey. Had dinner at the Mother board and it was good food and fast service which is important in that type of venue. Appears all the timeout events are geared to lower bowl ticket holders which is disappointing as not everyone can afford those seats.

    Overall good

by Dee420 on 1/10/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Seating is just to small through your the whole arena. I’m not a big person about 135 lbs and 5 foot tall. But I feel smooshed in the seats. Very little shoulder room. And the people in the row behind you their knees are in your head.

    Good but not great

by Let's Go Red Wings on 1/3/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

LCA is something else -- one of the most impressive arenas around. Game was good... hard to see the action from the upper deck with all the people standing in front of me though. People apparently don't wait for the whistle anymore -- there was a constant stream of people getting up in the middle of the action. Someone was vaping a couple of seats away from me. Ushers... where the heck are you?!

    Never Again

by Grumpy on 1/3/23Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Parked .04 miles away. Walked through Detroit, scarry. Waited in long line to enter, 80 yr old mother told purse too big had to take back to car or check it in. Same purse allowed at Fox a week earlier. Beer/ Wine Very Expensive at over $ 14 ea. Seats were way to small and steps were dangerously steep and hard to walk. Never coming back to LCA !!

    Left out in the D.

by Jim B. on 12/20/22Little Caesars Arena - Detroit

Love the Wings. Love LCA. Love the D. The in game experience for folks in the upper bowl is more than lacking. You can't see the top of the scoreboard. Unless you know to look for the banners after the game starts you'll never see those. No giveaway items are even possible, and forget any chance of being on the scoreboard and feeling like you are at the game too. For $420 in tickets plus another $30 to insure them ALL FANS should feel included. I did not. Not going to keep me from coming again as I'm a fan and glutton for punishment, but I would rather not have to deal with the continued disappointing experience.
