Detroit Lions Team History
The Detroit Lions haven't always been the Lions. In 1934, George A. Richards, a radio executive, purchased the Spartans, a team from Portsmouth, Ohio. After the $8,000 purchase (a huge sum at that time), he moved the team to Detroit. In only their second year as the Detroit Lions, the team won the 1935 NFL championship, beating the New York Giants 26-7 at the University of Detroit Stadium.
During the 1950s, the Lions enjoyed some of the most successful seasons in their history, winning three league championships against the Cleveland Browns in 1952, 1953 and 1957. Divisional titles came again in 1991 and 1993.

Detroit Lions at Ford Field
The 65,000-capacity Ford Field consists of 1.85 million square feet and has four levels of suites, a level of club seating, and a ground level designated for concessions and retail. It also has some of the best sight lines of any football stadium in the United States, made available by a design that omits the traditional club and suite levels, thereby lowering the upper level.
In 2017, the Detroit Lions announced a $100 million investment into stadium renovations. Updates to The New Ford Field included a complete overhaul of Ford Field's audio/visual guest experience with new video boards to ensure easy viewing for fans in all corners of the stadium, an upgraded sound system, as well as renovated stadium suites and premium club areas.
The Detroit Lions’ schedule release video was posted on May 11, 2023, and features hilarious A.I.-generated commentary from Lions general manager Brad Holmes, head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff. You can watch the clip here.
The Detroit Lions’ 2023 regular season — their 90th in Detroit — kicks off in September at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, when the Lions face off against defending Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs. The Lions play their final game of the regular season at home against their NFC North rivals the Minnesota Vikings. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:

Fantastic football game at Ford Field. Great facilities and great staff.
The stadium was super nice. It wasn’t fun seeing my team lose but besides that the stadium is fantastic.
It was an awesome experience. I purchased tickets for my husband birthday weekend to surprise him and he was ecstatic 🤩 we had a wonderful time
My Grandson wanted to attend a PRO Football Game, to make his Dream come true PRICELESS ❤️
Impressive indoor stadium (the crowd noise was a challenge for our Eagles). Easy to get to and around the arena compared with other cities. I was disappointed by the scarcity of healthy food options.
Disappointed to find out that the ticket for SRO was falsely advertised as it was supposed to included seating at the home game on 09/18/2022. Not a good deal when Ford Field doesn't uphold their "ticket bundle" promotions.
Disappointing finish! Love Ford Field! Love Detroit fans! We have huge hearts!
Sell out crowd overwhelmed concessions, concourses were packed. Lineups everywhere. Overloaded pounding music trax for every second your there. Everything choreographed. Underwhelming.
Easy to use digital tickets. No issues getting in to game and had 3 others with me. All four tickets were in my IPhone wallet and all went well
Waited in line and our and a half to get in. Missed slmost the entire first quarter. Concessions ran out of pizza before halftime.
Had a great experience (helped that the Eagles were able to hang on for the win)!! Ford Field is amazing and unique and really enjoyed walking around before the game. True, hard-core fans there, screaming their lungs out in support of their Lions!!! Everyone was friendly and courteous with some good-natured ribbing as the Lions made their comeback!! Wish I had more time to explore downtown Detroit!! Would definitely consider a return trip!!
We arrived 1/2 hour before the game and it took us an hour to get into the stadium. Total chaos trying to enter the event. Line ups for food and beverages was almost as bad. Annoying fans getting up during the play was constant. Better off to stay home and enjoy the game!!
Although the game is always fun to attend because we have the best fan base you always leave feeling disappointed, we should have won that game, careless mistakes always cost us heartbreaking, avoidable losses ! I don’t see the change yet that we were told was happening the excited talk and amped up rallying mean nothing if you can’t get that defense together and stop making unnecessary penalties that cost you the game … I’ll still be at as many games possible, cheering and being hopeful though it’s still early in the season who knows .
My boyfriend proposed to me at the game!!!! Best game ever!
Had a terrific experience at Ford Field. Really looking forward to this season. It was a great scrimmage and all of the events were fun and the atmosphere was excellent.
Everything was awesome Seeing the Lions practice you could sense there is a new regime Let’s go Lions and have a great season!!!!!
What an awesome event I plan on going every year with my grandkids
We went to the Lions Family fun day last year and the activities was were pretty much the same this year. I was hoping for more activities that the kids could partake in besides taking pictures, face paintings and picking out a balloon. We spent most of the time waiting in line for face painting since that was really the only activity that most of the kids wanted which makes the line extremely long. If there were more kid friendly activities, the dispersement of the children would be better and the line could move faster. Also there should be family deals for the meals/food.
Scan tickets, walk up and down the stairs make sure the fans not smoking in the stadium. Direct the fans to they seats. Direct the fans to the bathroom if they ask where it’s is. Make sure nobody take alcohol out the building, do giveaways
Great No need to say more To say more would take from the fun I had
