Detroit Lions Team History

The Detroit Lions haven't always been the Lions. In 1934, George A. Richards, a radio executive, purchased the Spartans, a team from Portsmouth, Ohio. After the $8,000 purchase (a huge sum at that time), he moved the team to Detroit. In only their second year as the Detroit Lions, the team won the 1935 NFL championship, beating the New York Giants 26-7 at the University of Detroit Stadium.

During the 1950s, the Lions enjoyed some of the most successful seasons in their history, winning three league championships against the Cleveland Browns in 1952, 1953 and 1957. Divisional titles came again in 1991 and 1993.

Detroit Lions at Ford Field

The 65,000-capacity Ford Field consists of 1.85 million square feet and has four levels of suites, a level of club seating, and a ground level designated for concessions and retail. It also has some of the best sight lines of any football stadium in the United States, made available by a design that omits the traditional club and suite levels, thereby lowering the upper level.

In 2017, the Detroit Lions announced a $100 million investment into stadium renovations. Updates to The New Ford Field included a complete overhaul of Ford Field's audio/visual guest experience with new video boards to ensure easy viewing for fans in all corners of the stadium, an upgraded sound system, as well as renovated stadium suites and premium club areas.

    Good game but Lions lost

    by RDF99 on 9/21/09Ford Field - Detroit

Seats were great... atmosphere was exciting. Good game for most part even though we lost. Once again - an easy reliable process for ordering and getting tickets from Ticketmaster. Great job.

    Lions vs Vikings

    by Skittles99 on 9/21/09Ford Field - Detroit

Good 1st half, then the Lions fell apart. Was hard trying to explain to my 10 year old daughter why we kept seeing women fighting. Very embarrassing for all involved. Ford Field is 1st class - I just can't wait for the day we walk out of there with a smile on our face because we won the game!!

    Lions Opening game.

Same old story. Limited pass rush, no pass coverage and no ground game.

    Lions were good

I have never been to a lions game just because they have a bad rap, but I actually enjoyed myself at this game and will definitly go to another game this season.

    Colts vs. Lions

    by Nathant47 on 8/31/09Ford Field - Detroit

For a pre-season game its was a good game. First string played at least half the game and when the second string came in to play it was still good to watch. Ford Field is a good place to watch a game. We happen to be in section 101 in the lower corner and still have a good view of the field when the ball was down at our end. When it wasn't, the large screen TV at each end of the field provided a good picture of the plays.

    Lions vs Colts

by Traceyjae on 8/30/09Ford Field - Detroit

This was an excellent game with plenty of excitement. Ford Field was well manned and in great shape. I would recommend that everyone that is a Detriot Lions fan take the time to go see at least one game LIVE. Its a memory and a feeling that you won't forget! Even from the nose bleed section.

    Pre-season Detroit Lions

by turkeyhunter on 8/18/09Ford Field - Detroit

It was our first professional football game. Even though it was pre-season and the Lions won all their pre-season games last year and never won one in the regular season, it was still nice to see them win on the last play of the game.

    Preseason lions

by froshytime on 8/16/09Ford Field - Detroit

The Lions appear to be the same sub par team as always. All three quarterbacks looked decent, with stanton being the better of the three. It was nice to go to a game where the Lions won , even if it was preseason. Anyway, Ford Field is a top notch stadium and it is hard not to have a good time there.
