Dermot Kennedy on Tour

Folk singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy has quickly taken the world by storm, rising from a small town in Ireland to release a number of charting singles as well as work with revered musicians and producers like Glen Hansard and Mike Dean (Kanye West, Travis Scott). In 2017, the dynamic performer went on the U.S. festival circuit and played Lollapalooza, South by Southwest, Austin City Limits and Bonnaroo, making an international name for himself with his high-energy shows. The following year, he went on a world tour and played shows in the U.S., Australia and Europe, hitting Coachella and also playing an NPR Tiny Desk Concert after being voted NPR Slingshot Best New Artist of the Year. Kennedy's live shows flesh out his intimate tunes with a full band, bringing the audience fully inside his expressive songs. Kennedy's tour in 2019 took him across multiple continents as he incorporated tracks from his sophomore album, Without Fear, into his set.

Dermot Kennedy in Concert

Born in 1991 in Ireland, Kennedy was attracted to music at a young age, picking up a guitar at 10 and taking the plunge into songwriting a few years later, at 14. Before long, Kennedy was performing at open mics around Dublin; eventually he found himself busking — playing music on the street for money — in cities around the world. After high school, he studied classical music at the university level for a few years, but ultimately decided to pursue folk music. Kennedy's big break came when he won first place in a major upset at the South County Song Contest at St. Finian's GAA Club, putting him on the radar of industry professionals and singer-songwriters around the world.

After he self-published on Spotify, some of Kennedy's music found its way onto Discover Weekly playlists, which helped him get noticed by a wider audience. His first charting single, "Young & Free," reached No. 82 on the Irish Singles Chart, but his breakthrough came with 2018's "Power Over Me," which reached No. 10 on the Irish Singles Chart, No. 21 on the U.S.'s Hot Rock Songs and No. 5 on Adult Alternative. "Power Over Me" has since been certified gold. Kennedy signed to Interscope and, in January 2019, released his self-titled debut album, which hit No. 5 on the Irish charts.

His concert was amazing. He started it off with a personalized touch. The vocals were amazing. The lighting and effects were awesome. It was by far one of the best concerts I have been to. He was so personal. Talking to the crowd and interacting with the audience. Had everyone in tears at one point. Wonderful musician.

The between show music was REALLY bad so I was concerned that he was going to do something unexpected. No worries! He was absolutely amazing and held the crowd from beginning to end!

  • Great show

by Dale on 6/6/23Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

Dermot gave an energetic performance in a nice venue. His melodies and band are great. I found myself wishing his lyrics had a little more depth or took on more subjects, but that's a minor complaint compared to his major overall talent. I loved the show.

  • THE BEST!

I have listened to him live multiple times but never in person. It was probably the best concert I have ever been to.

Really cool outdoor venue! Perfect size, not too small and definitely not big! Sound was great! We will definitely be coming back! And Dermot stole the show☺️

  • Amazing

We were so upset when we missed seeing him sing in Dublin at the bar. We couldn’t pass up another chance to see him. We were so excited when we saw he was playing in Atlanta. Such a great concert. We love his music. Worth the 2 hour drive and $20 beer any day. We can’t wait to see him again!

I love how professional Dermot is and you can tell he’s there to share his art. I’ve seen him grow over the years and you can really tell how special every performance is. Can’t wait for next time!

Gorgeous venue and fantastic show. Loved the banter about the songs from Dermot and he sounded amazing. Played all of my favorites- highly recommend seeing this show for all music lovers!

  • Painful

by Bdub on 6/5/23Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

The rap music between acts was painful to listen to. Was not at all related to the warmup or the main show. We got fed up and left.

  • Great time!

by Melissa on 6/5/23Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Only concert I’ve been to where I knew every song (minus the unreleased one)! It was great, the seats we had were awesome! Some of his music is slower but his energy was great during the whole show!

  • Hands down the best!

by TK on 6/5/23Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Dermot surpassed any recording I’ve ever heard. His passion and enthusiasm for his craft was transcendent via his music, you can physically feel the energy he pours into his music. Vocally beyond what I could have imagine, I’d go again 1,000 times. This is an artist you don’t want to miss

  • Not my favorite

by Sydney on 6/5/23Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I’ve been to quite a few concerts, even a few at this specific venue. Dermot Kennedy is an incredible musician and his vocals were great live, but the performance lacked a lot. It did have the same energy, entertainment, or sense of unity as most other concerts I’ve been to. He sounded great, but was a little lackluster.

  • AHMAZING

by Jenny on 6/5/23Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first visit to Chastain and it was wonderful!! Dermot Kennedy is phenomenal and I’m completely obsessed. I will see him every time he comes to ATL until forever. We had fantastic seats, and the sound was perfection. The only complaints I have involve the people in front of us smoking, and the lack of vegan options in concessions. That’s it!! Can’t wait to come back.

  • Chills

by ChelseyBA on 6/5/23Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was honestly one of the best shows I have ever attended. Dermot give his everything out on that stage and you can feel it. The venue was stunning and it was the perfect night. I can speak highly enough of Dermot as an artist. His passion and emotion are palpable when he performs and you just know that he wants his fans to feel what he feels. I had chills the entire show.
