About

Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

Death Cab for Cutie was a great event. The venue was beautiful, sound great even in the back and a beautiful performance by the LA orchestra. Fireworks at the end of the concert to the beat of "Transatlanticism" with the orchestra...truly an incredible concert. Moving.

  • Death Cab with the LA Phil

    by cat4dcfc on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Death Cab solo was great. When the LA Phil was added it didn't seem to work well on all songs. Timing was off on some, music drowned out the vocals on others. Nice experiment though!

  • amazing concert!!!! great bands!!

everything about this concert was incredible. the venue was awesome, a concert under the stars...the opening bands were phenomenal especially Tegan and Sara. Deathcab was excellent especially the songs with the Philharmonic. Out of this World!!!

There is no other way to describe this show. Everything about it, from the two openers to the final explosion of the fireworks were absolutely EPIC!!!!

  • KUdos for Death CAb for Cutie show

by Nakomis on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing! It was my first time watching The New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara and Death Cab for Cutie. I really enjoyed listening to Tegan and Sara because in between every song they would talk to the audience. By the end of their set i felt like they had invited me into their circle of friends. When Death Cab went up it was just gnarly. I enjoyed it when the L.A. Philharmonic was up on stage as well. Although, there was one song with the orchestra where i could hardly hear Ben Gibbard singing. Towards the end of their last piece though there were fireworks, it made it amazing. I loved it and would go watch them again.

  • Amazing!!!

Deathcab gave an amazing performance! I loved the fireworks at the end. I loved Tegan and Sara's performance also! Those girls are so talented. I really hope to see more of you girls.

  • tegan and sara was great

by holliday on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Tegan and sara were great, so funny! the second half of their show wasn't as good because of the 15 yuppies that sat in front of us and talked to eachother the whole time.

  • Death Cab and the perfect line up

    by ZC13 on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

An amazing evening with amazing artists. I didn't really know the New Pornographers but I will get to know them now. Tegan and Sara were charming and fun as always and DC4C put on a wonderful performance joined at the end by the endlessly talented LA philharmonic. They topped it all off with a beautiful fireworks display that brought a tear to my eye. Great artists Great evening 'nuff said

  • Death Cab for Cutie Blow it up at the Bowl!

by Confucian on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

I got there late, but managed to catch enough of Death Cab for Cutie's set to be thoroughly impressed. They're great live and you could just tell they were ecstatic to be playing the Hollywood Bowl. For their last few songs, they brought out the L.A. Philharmonic, which was a nice treat. Some of the orchestral arrangements didn't mesh that well with their songs, but it was still great to listen to. I still wish Death Cab for Cutie would have done an encore, but overall, they were solid.

  • Incredible Performance!

by Alison on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing. The New Pornographers were good, just good. Tegan and Sarah were also very good and funny, unlike other bands they had funny things to say which was enjoyable. Also, all of the bands really appreciated the venue and its history. Death Cab for Cutie was amazing live. The sound was amazing and not unrealistically good. Ben Gibbard is a great performer and has such a great presence. The whole band was just really into the music. Everyone knew all the words to the songs which made it fun. The L.A. Philharmonic came out half way through their set after the intermission.

  • DCFC awesome

by Melvil on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

New Pornographers needed to be the 2nd act not the openers. They have so many more great songs than Tegan and Sara and were s much more exciting. Invite them back where they can perform more of their songs.

  • DCFC!

by Lalala on 7/7/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I missed the new pornographer's opening act, what a bummer. Tegan and Sara were AMAZING. They're so good live, they sound exactly as if you were listening to your ipod. They both were extremely funny and adorable. I thought they were excellent and really enjoyed their performance. Death Cab For Cutie were very good as well. Not as exquisite compared to Tegan and Sara, but still amazing. I thought it was hilarious how the lead singer constantly sways back and forth while playing the guitar and singing throughout EVERY SINGLE SONG. It gets a bit repetitive and distracting at times. Overrall, very enjoyable. Not many people really got into the music or stood up around me. There were definitely people around me smoking and getting high despite the no smoking sign upon entering. The fireworks during the last song were absolutely amazing. The way it went along perfectly with the song was a real treat. It definitely added to the greatness of the concert. Bravo!

  • DCFC wasamazing!!

All three bands were amazing! It was incredible when Death Cab played with the LA Philharmonic; it was so beautiful!

This was the 3rd time I have seen Death Cab, and this was by far the best show. Pairing up with the LA Phil made the event even more memorable.
