Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

The New Pornographers were surprisingly good, but Tegan and Sara weren't quite my cup of tea. Death Cab for Cutie was amazing, and absolutly beautiful with the LA Phil. The surprise of the fireworks display was just perfect. Was sad that they didn't do an encore. All of the sudden it was just over. The Hollywood Bowl was a beautiful venue for the music. I hope they come back next year!
Overall an excellent show at The Bowl. I had seen Death Cab a number of times in the past. Both in LA, SF Bay Area and Austin, Tx. Adding in the orchestra accompaniment was a good touch. Would have liked to have seen them out their earlier. Seemed like a short set with the accompaniment. Good finale with fireworks. Was hoping for at least one encore. Not sure if it was Sunday night curfew requirements or not.
