About

Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

  • Death Cab put on a great show!

    by Morganna on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a fan of Death Cab since I was a sophomore in high school. So for the last 7 years I have wanted to see them in concert, and I was not disappointed!! They played songs from all their albums, not just the new stuff, and the new stuff they played I really enjoyed. Their overall talent is clear since the quality of their sound in concert is very close to how they sound on their records. I don't go to many concerts, but I would definitely pay to see them again!

  • DCFC At The Greek

    by rocknrollnurse on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

ANDREW BIRD was a great pairing with DCFC and a strong contender for best performer of the night. But DCFC held its own, despite the inexplicably buried vocals. The crowd knew all the words and sang along, but it felt like community and not cult. The last time I saw DCFC was 10 years ago at an underground music festival outside of Detroit, MI, and they have matured from a tight but geeky pop band to a full-fledged rock'n'roll juggernaut, with the confidence and the moves to pull it off.

Death Cab was outstanding - best show of the year. Grapevine Fires was incredibly moving.

  • Death Cab for Cutie was simply amazing.

    by Epwn on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

The two starting bands sounded great and set up the stage well for Death Cab. When Death Cab finally came out, everyone in the audience was off their seats. Their music was fantastic in every way and the quality of the show was top notch.

The Greek is always an awesome venue for music but last night was over-the-top rocking. Death cab really hit their stride last night and even forced a rainbow out of the sky with a light rain shower and sunshine.

  • great show at the greek!

    by cgc1966 on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

I have scene Death Cab several times and this was by far the best show. The band was animated and very high energy. The sound was great and it was a beautiful evening (despite a little rain early).

  • DCFC is the bomb!

    by JstTrux on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

The opening band, Rah Rah Riot, was amazing - never heard of them before, but a "junior" version of DCFC. Andrew Bird was next and was good. Death Cab came on and once they started, they did not stop. And what the heck happened to Ben's glasses and geeky, awkward look? He has truly perfected his stage persona and absolutely rocked out. They are one of the most relevent bands of our time. The crowd was very engaged, and DCFC opened with "Marching Bands of Manhattan" and ran through most of the crowds favorites, plus one from their first album and a couple from their latest album. Their sound is amazing and Ben's voice is like no other. My fourth time seeing them (met them in LA a couple of years ago and they are as nice as they appear) and I was not disappointed, nor were the 7 teenagers I brought with me:)

  • Death Cab rocked!

    by timwnitram on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing concert, Andrew Bird started off and set one heck of a tone for the rest of the concert. A little sprinkle brought out a giant double-rainbow at the beginning of Death Cab's set. Death Cab's set rocked with hooky hit after hooky hit.

  • AWESOME

    by NYCGIRL on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

I really went to the concert to see Andrew Bird, who is just an amazing artist. I thought I'd stay and listen to a few songs for Death Cab and then make an early exit. I ended up staying for the entire set + encore. They were tight, tight, tight!!! The guitar player was really good. Overall, great!

Have been looking for ward to this show for months, but was sadly disappointed. I got the feeling if I'd seen the show in a smaller venue it would have been much better, they just couldn't play to a venue that large. Their performance was routine and cliched, and dull.

  • great show

    by lypa on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed this considering I am in my 50's. Great venue. LCD "show" was very weak, that could of been better.

  • DCFC was good, the openers not so much

    by DevonTD on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 3 out of 5

I've been to the greek theater before and the sound was very great. Last nights show had a very tinny sound to it, not much bass in the mix. The openers were both very boring. DCFC were good, but the bass was a bit too low, especially since the bass lines are very prominent in many of their songs. They also played a few songs that didn't fit very well into the set list.

  • terrific show with surprise fireworks

by kirin on 7/11/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

i am not super familiar with all of dcfc's songs but wanted to go to some shows at the bowl this summer so picked this show. dcfc is great live! i thoroughly enjoyed the show. though LA phil was sometimes too loud and covered up the vocals. the fireworks at the end were a surprise but very fitting for the 4th of july weekend.

  • DCFC+Phil = wonderful!

Perfect weather, my favorite band, great songs and of course the fireworks. Couldn't ask for more....well maybe closer seats :)

  • Amazing-ish

    by dukenuk12 on 7/10/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Sonically and musically, it blew my mind. Do I think DCFC could have chosen better songs to do with the orchestra? (ahem-brothersonahotelbed/differentnamesforthesamething) Yes... Should Ben's mic have been louder? In truth, the whole THING should have been louder. But it WAS an amazing experience. Their finale made up for them not playing as long as I thought they should have. I wouldn't have critiqued it as much as I have had I not loved it so much. It was an amazing show -- could have been amazing-er.

  • Death Cab and L.A. Phil rock the Bowl

    by Varela1856 on 7/10/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

This was an amazing concert at the Hollywood Bowl. Tegan and Sara played 12 songs that were hip and thier banter with the crowd was youthfully pleasing. Death Cab came on and rocked 18 songs. The atmosphere seemed a bit subdued, maybe from the 4th of July festivities a day prior. The set list was nothing spectacular only playing one song form the new EP and 6 songs from the "Plans" CD, one-third of their songs. Seriously, "My Mirror Speaks" would have been better than "Little Bribes" even though I like both songs. 5 more songs would have really blown the crowd away. The best part was the firework finale to "Transatlanticism". . . Amazing.

  • mind blowing

    by Lovebird09 on 7/9/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Tegan and Sara are always great to watch Death Cab For Cutie was awesome and the fireworks show was amazingly mind blowing! it was the perfect ending to a great show with an awesome line up. i would definitely recommend checking the band out the next time they are playing.

  • Awesome show! LA Phil + Death Cab= Awesome!

by qteepahtutee on 7/9/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the show. It sold out and programs were only $1.00. A buck. Seeing the LA Philharmonic join up with Death Cab for Cutie was something not to be missed! So glad I was there with my handycam!!!!

  • phenomenal show

Fantastic live show!! Beautiful venue with great amenities and flow. I loved each of the live acts!

  • Tegan and Sara/Death Cab were Awesome!

by AnabellaRox on 7/9/09Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

i think both bands played very well. i cannot review on the new pronographers because i was not able to see them play sadly. the only thing i disliked was that the sound was not loud enough and everyone was standing up and walking around and about during shows like tegan and sara not respecting the people who have also came to watch the bands opening for deathcab.
