About

Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

  • Death Cab = WOW

    by maryam on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

Death Cab is always fantastic. This is my 3rd time seeing them and they blow me away each time. Their tickets can be abut pricey for a rock concert but I assure you, itnis 100% worth it! Best show I've EVER been to! And I would go 100 times over!

  • One of the best concerts ive been to

    by P7S7 on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show, Ra Ra Riot was great and got the crowd into the concert state of mind, Andrew Bird was fantastic, and when Death Cab took the stage the place exploded. I would recommend this concert to anyone, even people who dont know the bands or people that like different genres of music, you would enjoy it no matter what,

  • Death Cab puts on another solid show

Great concert. Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Bird opened for Death Cab for Cutie at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. All the bands were stoked to be there, and you could tell based on their level of enthusiasm during their performances. It rained a little, but that definitely did not stop the show from going on. Ben and the rest of the Death Cab crew played a great setlist. Definitely one of my favorite shows in a long time. The greek is also a great venue. Fantastic acoustics, so your way off to the left seat is probably just as good as being center.

  • Death Cab is the best!

    by dancecatherinedance on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

They are simply amazing live. Definitely a must see. I must also comment on how amazing the people who worked at the venue were. Usually venue-workers are rude and semi-annoyed by default, but in this case they were extremely welcoming and polite. Ra Ra Riot! opened the show and they were great, they kind of reminded me of a love child of Vampire Weekend and Death Cab. They had high energy and a lot of talent. Andrew Bird was next and he was really on top of his game. He was playing multiple instruments at once and sounds way better live than recorded. He was extremely passionate about what he was doing. Then, Death Cab. Ben Gibbard is a musical genius. He was so invested in every single song, and his voice was smooth and calming as ever. I believe my favorite song performed live was The Sound of Settling.

  • Bird and Death Cab were effusive with energy

    by JTroll on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

Both Andrew Bird and Death Cab For Cutie put on immersive, impressive performances, infusing the crowd with their own high-energy shows.

  • Death Cab For Cutie was magical!

    by Tootles on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

Death Cab put on an amazing event. We got there at 6:30 so we saw the 2 opening acts. Usually opening bands can be a bit iffy, but we loved Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Bird. The weather was warm and at one point it started raining! It didn't last long and as a parting gift, we got the most spectacular double rainbow I have ever seen! Death Cab came on at 8:45 and played for about 1 1/2. They were awesome! We bought these tickets using our Visa Signature card, so we got VIP treatment. We picked up our tickets at will call and got a lanyard that gave us access to the VIP Visa seating area. They were great seats. Also, we got a coupon for a free drink and we had a special line to go to so we didn't have to wait. Overall, the event was superb!

  • amazing deathcab concert!

    by CLWright on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show- I was presently surprised at how energized and upbeat the concert was. Greek theatre is a great venue; it's large enough to hold a good amount of people but small enough to create an intimate feel. Opening act was great too.

  • Great show!

    by laila on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

Death Cab for Cutie was Great! Usually bands that sing live do not sound as good as on their album. but they did! Every song was well performed. Ra Ra was good as well. Whereever you are in the that theatre you had a pretty good view, the staff was hospitable, they were jamming to the music as well and were trying to keep the peace but were able to be nice as well. I thought the concert was a little short, but overall great show really recommend it.

  • Wished I could see it all over again!

    by Robbi on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was incredible. This was the first time I saw them perform and they were great! I heard some music that I hadn't heard before which was fantastic and then some of my favorites. The songs they chose for the encore were perfect - I hated to see it end! Bring them back to the Greek Theatre soon!

  • Bird stole the show!

    by AndyBirdFan on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

Ra Ra Riot was a group I was previously unfamiliar. They were a pleasant surprise straight from the word go. They were fun, unique, and quite talented! I went home afterwords and purchased their CD. Partly, they were so great because they had excellent stage presence. You could really see that they were genuinely having fun. Of course, my highlight followed. Andrew Bird. This was my fourth time seeing the guy live and he did not even come close to being a disappointment. I deem him to be one of the most talented musicians of our time - definitely an underrated musical genius. I have been in Berkeley for two weeks now, and only Andrew Bird's "anonanimal" could bring the rain! And that phenomenal rainbow. It was just perfect. I'm also glad I was able to spend his birthday with him! As for Death Cab - I'm not a big fan. They're okay. However, I was again pleasantly surprised by their excellent performance. They gave a good show! Not as good as the preceding acts - but good none the less! However, I do believe the only other highlight would be the VENUE. Oh my goodness. Everyone should put The Greek on their must see list. The acoustics are breathtaking. Genius theater. Bravo.

  • Sound a problem

    by JaggedJim on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 3 out of 5

I had a great spot about 30 feet from center stage and could see very well. However, the sound was pretty bad. I considered leaving but after the fourth song, it got a little better. It's funny because the sound for Andrew Bird (the opener) wasn't bad. The only song that sounded really good was the solo acoustice song, 'I will follow you into the Dark', which was quite a nice moment.

  • Great show...even in the rain!

    by acs1 on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

Death cab for cutie never dissappoint...always a great live performance from these guys. And what's not to like about the Greek theater? It's my favorite outdoor venue in the bay area.

  • DCFC possessed my heart

    by Elsiee on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

The Death Cab for Cutie concert last night at the Greek Theatre was inpsirational. The show began with Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Bird, who set the mellow scene for DCFC. I've listened to DCFC my entire life, and I couldn't help but sing along to every song! They played all my favorites except they didn't play Lack of Color. They started and ended the show with the perfect song. I was surprised when they actually played the entire four minute intro to I Will Possess Your Heart. I definitely am going next time they play at the Greek.

  • amazing

Dc was incredible. I had no idea that a band like death cab could be so fun to watch live.

  • Death Cab- great music, mediocre performance

    by berkeleyan on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 3 out of 5

Greek Theatre was an amazing venue- perfect ambiance. Sound was perfect. The opening act was Andrew Bird, and he stunned everyone who had not heard him before. He's incredibly talented and was very impressive. I'll see his next show in town. I really enjoyed Death Cab, because I love their music. The performance itself was somewhat forgettable. Death Cab only played for 1.5 hours. The songs were played identical to the way they were recorded- no jams, minimal crowd interaction, and no covers. They rushed from song to song as if trying to complete the task and get back on the bus. In sum, it was an amazing evening with stellar music. But I expected more from Death Cab.

  • Cool night--warm reception

    by PatsyLynn3 on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 3 out of 5

Death Cab for Cutey was warmly embraced by the crowd of mostly college-aged fans. I am new to their music (brought my teens) and had a good time. Quite the contrast to the Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin, and David Bowie of my high school years. DC's easy going and radio-friendly vibes are pleasant, not to say arresting or inspiring. Had a fun time seeing them at the Greek Theater, and experiencing their fans' love for these affable entertainers. Could not recommend to someone with my tastes for more complex, singular fare.

  • Death Cab for Cutie were rock stars

    by whyitsjeff on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

DCFC delivered a tight, energetic performance. Their sound was balanced perfectly and every song was heartfelt - each one captures a sentiment and tells a story. The Greek Theatre was a fantastic venue: its acoustics were pristine, every seat had a straight view to the stage, and it must have comfortably held thousands of fans, all who sang and danced along with the band. Openers Andrew Bird and Ra Ra Riot had a lush, lovely sound that engaged the crowd despite a slight drizzle.

  • Death Cab and a shower...

    by Snerky on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

I bought these tickets for my boyfriends birthday. He is a huge Death Cab fan. The Greek theater in Berkley was a really great experience. The General admission was fun, because we got to seek out the best seats, not be restricted to a specific seat like most shows. The downside/upside is that it is out doors. And (wouldn't you know it) it started to rain. Not hard, but enough to soak the jeans. However, we got to see a gorgeous double rainbow at sunset because of it, and who doesn't love the smell of fresh rain? Unfortunately, the tech guys put up tents and tarps over their equipment which obstructed the view of part of the stage for us (and probably all of it for some of the VIP seating Haha). The show opened with RaRa Riot which my boyfriend liked, followed by Andrew Bird who I liked. It was all in all a great show, But I would definitely recommend coming early to snag a seat with even some back support ( I didn't, and regretted it), bring something soft to sit on, and layers.

  • Death Cab will give you chills.

    by Benjamin on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

You will never forget this show. The entire thing was impeccable. Lights, sounds, atmosphere; it was worth every penny.

  • very solid

    by wuballin on 7/12/09Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

solid show - about 1.5 hrs long set, all their hits for the most part, ben was on key for the most part - good show!
