Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

Love the riverside venue and small friendly atmosphere.
DCfC is such a talented band and sounded fantastic.
This was the best concert of my life. Death Cab sounded fantastic and just put on a great show. I’d never heard of Illuminati Hotties before, but I loved their set, too! The venue was clean and well-kept as well.
Death cab for cutie is my favorite band and never fails to disappoint! After seeing them 4 times already I can't wait until their next tour!
Best part of concert was Ben Gibbard singing "I'll Follow You Into the Dark" alone, onstage with only a guitar. That highpoint was preceded by an excruciating LOUD LOUD noodling that went on forever. Truly painful. I love Death Cab.....why try to be Phish? The audience is clearly there because they love their studio work. How about throwing in some of their quieter songs that make Death Cab for Cutie who they are? Ben's voice is in good form. It's a shame they wanted to bury it.
Themis was the best show I’ve ever been to. Non stop music, great energy by the band. I couldn’t be happier
My wife and I returned to riverfront park to see DCFC perform again after attending their show there a few years ago. The show was great and we had a wonderful time. Come back again soon!
Death Cab has been one of my favorite bands for at least 15 years. I’ve seen them live many times at different venues. This venue was nice, being right along the Susquehanna River, but there were sooo many bugs! The band only played for about 1 hr 25 minutes then came back for 3 encore songs, ultimately ending after 20 more minutes. So, less than 2 hours total was a bummer after a 3.5 hr drive there. Maybe there was a curfew but I’d like to have the show last longer. The opening band was awful 🙉
Love it. The festival was well organized and the music was outstanding! DCFC was amazing.
Very good concert. The “facilities” were not lit. There was no where to sit, except for the other side of the barriers, where you could get closer to the stage and not pay anything. Also, Ticketmaster was terrible. Days before the concert, they emailed to say that you can “transfer” tickets to members in your group; however, when it came time to actually transfer the tickets, there was no option.
Song selection terrible You go to concert to hear bands songs that Made them famous Didn’t happen Left early
Attended second Death Cab for Cutie concert in three years. I knew something was a bit weird when the opening song was the same as the opening tune three years ago in Louisville, "I Dreamt We Spoke Again." Overall, I would estimate they performed about 70% from the same set of songs at the concert three years ago. Fans will agree that their vault of songs is deep, with so many rich and beautiful song masterpieces. Alas, although they hit some great tunes ("Crooked Teeth" and "Northern Lights"), many were predictable, or of the overplayed catalogue. There was nothing of the less popular yet just as strong variety, such as "Little Wanderer," "Stay Young, Go Dancing," or "Good Help." If I had known that I would be hearing the majority of the songs I did three years, I'm not sure I would have gone to see them again live. Lastly, the sound was off and crackly at times. The bass was overpowerful and often drowned out lead vocals and left my ears ringing. Ben didn't engage the audience very much, but when he did, he was dull, as were his topics that he felt he had to squeeze in regarding social issues. It was also odd that Ben dropped about 8 gratuitous f-bombs throughout the show, which I don't remember either from the last concert I saw. In other words, he was not the class-act I remember from before. Although I will forever be a Death Cab listener, I think from now on it will be from the comfort of my own home, where I choose the songs I prefer best and with the quality of sound I have come to expect when listening from my own stereo speakers.
This was a bucket list experience for me and they did not disappoint. The opening band however was awful....just a racket and definitely not our cup of tea.
Great set list. Have seen this band many times and they never disappoint.
Disappointed. I had seen DCFC before. They were excellent which is why I went back again. The venue has no air-conditioning but it has a back wall which is capable of opening to the night sky. The acoustics are generally not good to begin with but with the back being closed at the bands request it got extremely hot and there was reverb from the back wall I had to leave early
It was amazing. I always love shows at GLC LIVE/20 Monroe. Death cab killed it, the lights, sound, audio.
Overall my friend and I had a great experience at this concert. I really enjoyed the venue, which was sold out and there was a strong sense of community during the show. Though the band is past their prime in a physical sense, Gibbard and his bandmates exuded enourmous energy and amazing performances. Notable highlights included the ulta-energetic Bixby Canyon Bridge, the emotional ballad I Will Follow you Into the Dark, and the long instrumental of I Will Possess Your Heart. Musically speaking, there's not much the band could have done better. However, my only grievance lies in the visual presentation, as though it is less of a factor, could have been improved through more interesting and dynamic lighting choices as well as inclusion of visual effects behind the stage. The entire concert was played in front of a curtain, but that didn't stop me from loving the infection energy and flair the band brought with every song. Having not been as huge of a Death Cab as my friend fan before the show, this live performance, where I paid around 70 bucks and drove 2 hours for, was certainly worth the time and money and made me want to explore their older studio albums. A solid rock concert experience!
20 Monroe Live is a great smaller venue for a show like this. Every seat is a good seat. Illuminati Hotties, a group new to us, came out and got the crowd primed for Ben Gibbard and Death Cab. We had an excellent time! Death Cab is such a tight band with Ben's distinctively beautiful voice. We loved that he did a song in support of reproductive freedom which was a much-needed balm for our souls.
I’ve had issues with Monroe Live before but decided to give them a 4th chance. I was very disappointed when the VIP peeps got to get into the venue before we did even though we were literally the first people at the venue. We got there 2 hours early and then had to watch as 20 people got to get inside before us. We had general admission seats so we bought fast pass hoping to get a jump on most of the other GA folks. I understand the VIP gets access to the upstairs benefits which is fine but they shouldn’t get in before the fast pass folks as well.
I discovered DCFC music doesn't translate very well to a live setting. The vibe was just not that great. The mix was muddy and the songs lacked energy and dynamics. Anyway, I like their music, but their music paired with the packed general admission setting wasn't the best fit. Perhaps a theater, sit-down setting would've been better. Still like the band, but I probably won't see them live again.
