About

Death Cab for Cutie was formed in Bellingham, WA in 1997 and almost immediately entered the ranks of the era's definitive bands, fueled in large part by the remarkable power of co-founder, lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist Benjamin Gibbard's complex, often bittersweet songcraft. The band made their worldwide popular breakthrough with 2003's RIAA Platinum certified Transatlanticism, later named by NPR as one of "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings." Plans, their 2005 Atlantic Records debut, saw Death Cab for Cutie ascending to even greater heights, earning RIAA platinum certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Alternative Album" while spawning the chart-topping singles, "Soul Meets Body," "Crooked Teeth," and "I Will Follow You into the Dark," the latter of which was honored with a GRAMMY® nod for "Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group With Vocals."

  • Great Show!

by Ryan on 4/18/19Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Energetic performance and great mix of songs from their discography. A little surprised they didn't do anything from Codes & Keys but still a great night of DCfC music at the historic Ryman Auditorium.

  • Great set list in a historic venue

    by J. on 4/18/19Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

A nice selection of songs from the new album and a great sampling of their classics.

  • Great show!

DCFC gave an electrifying performance of their new and old songs. They brought the energy and the sound to an audience that enjoyed every minute of it!

  • Death Cab

by AnitaB on 4/18/19Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

The music was wonderful and they played everything I knew. My only problem was the bright lights pointed at the audience - gave me a headache - and the strobe lights toward the end of the show. It was my first time to see Death Cap for Cutie, and I was very pleased with the show.

  • A great night!

    by Bluedemon1 on 4/16/19Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Gibbard and Death Cab tore through hit after hit with a real intensity and passion! All phases of the band’s history were given time. I left as an even bigger fan !

  • Chill evening out

by Kristen on 4/16/19Red Hat Amphitheater - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Went to red hat amphitheater for first time to see the band. Music was good and no different than renditions on the radio. I was expecting a more ramped up version live. Show was mellow so the lighting contrasted with the vibe of the evening. Thinking the show would be more appropriate for smaller venue to help engage the crowd more.

  • Not my favorite Death Cab show

    by Raleigh4-13-2019 on 4/16/19Red Hat Amphitheater - RaleighRating: 3 out of 5

The aisles at the venue were terribly placed - I sat in one of the side sections and there were people constantly walking down the aisle & in front of us to go to the bar & restrooms. People also stopped to take pictures in front of the stage, temporarily blocking our view. Opening act "my brightest diamond" was one of the worst I've seen - she was a talented singer, but instead of having a full band, she was singing to a drummer and a laptop playing tracks. Other Death Cab/ Postal Service opening acts in the past have become some of my favorite bands. This was disappointing. The lighting was also poorly arranged. The lights that were directly behind the band were shining in the eyes of the crowd. The music & band were good as always, but other aspects of the concert made it less enjoyable.

  • It was awesome!

by smrfefms on 4/16/19Red Hat Amphitheater - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Aside from people constantly walking around (I sat right behind a pathway), the performance was amazing! They played a lot of my favorite songs and did so beautifully!

  • The night was great!

We had a great time at the show. It was easy to find our seats, bathrooms and concessions. Screens would be nice but not necessary.

  • DCFC, April 13

    by J. L. on 4/16/19Red Hat Amphitheater - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

The show itself was fantastic! Some of the people around us were obviously not there for the music, just the social aspect of it all, so if you’re a true fan, get seats closer to the stage

  • Amazing

by Tsunamisboy on 4/16/19Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts I have ever seen. Great instrumentals, laid-back venue and wonderfully executed show.

  • A no sit down concert. Excellent sound and experience

by Airjet on 4/15/19Ovens Auditorium - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

Saw two years ago and it was a slow but melodious show. This time around it was a wide open, in your face, rock and roll show worth seeing day after day. The music, lighting, vocals and their music was made special on this night!! 5 stars and would go again tomorrow!!

  • Amazing Band- Interesting Rule

    by A on 4/14/19BJCC Concert Hall - BirminghamRating: 4 out of 5

Death Cab for Cutie is so passionate about their music, and their show and set were simple but amazing. However, they do not allow any phones out during the performance, which I was not made aware of until 5 minutes before the show, and many people missed this announcement. This lack of communication resulted in people being escorted out, security shining lights at patrons all throughout the performance, and a sense of tension during the show.

  • Great show lousy venue

by KCK on 4/14/19The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - MemphisRating: 4 out of 5

When I stood to dance I was told by the usher to sit down. Cramped seats my knees were hitting the chair in front of me. I’ll catch them in Dallas or Nashville next time!!!

  • Fantastic show - lower the bass

by JJ MacCrimmon on 4/13/19BJCC Concert Hall - BirminghamRating: 4 out of 5

I've been wanting to experience a Death Cab for Cutie show for years. Given luck and timing, I was determined to see them when they came close, Birmingham. This was a tremendous show by both the opening act and Death Cab. Two things about the show stood out as superlatives and only one as a negative. The first positive was the energy and polish both the bands displayed. Long, creative, energetic sets were wonderful to experience. They put their heart into the show (rehearsal and performance wise). The second superlative was the lighting effects during Death Cab for Cutie's performance. The color and visual effects added to the entire experience of each song and really impressed me (as a photographer and visual artist). The ONLY downer may have been more a result of the venue than the bands. From my location on the front row of the balcony (center), the sound quality of the vocals were somewhat distorted from the opening act onward. The bass speakers in the overhead loft overwhelmed the vocals to us. This was likely a mixing issue based on the main floor sound. When ever the bass or percussion eased off in any of the songs, the distortion went away. One minor issue - Photography... There was NO clear notice that photography was not permitted in the venue until we left. Even then, it was only on a single small sign (12" x 16") laying on a table. If photography isn't permitted, it needs to be on the tickets. If it isn't clear, it isn't enforceable (and wasn't on the main floor).

  • Security tight on phone usage

by NoPics on 4/13/19BJCC Concert Hall - BirminghamRating: 2 out of 5

Death Cab sounded great. It’s a shame they were throwing out very devoted fans over taking pictures. I was not thrown out but I was warned to put away my phone when I was merely checking the next song on the playlist. I respect image rights but these young ladies just wanted some pictures. It wasn’t sold out and I can’t imagine their picture is worth much even though I love them. I’ll continue to listen and enjoy but I’ll never pay for their concert again.

  • OMG!!! Awesome!!!

by DCFC Gal on 4/12/19Orpheum Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I have wanted to see Death Cab for Cutie since the early 2000s and finally got to see them in New Orleans this April 2019. The music was awesome!!! Lucky me gets to see them again at Red Rocks in June. This is the music of my life.

  • AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!!!

    by H. on 4/12/19Orpheum Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

I've always liked Death Cab for Cutie but after seeing them live, now I'm a superfan!!!!! They were super high-energy and performed for longer than most bands we see. The light show was also really cool. If they ever come back to my area, I'll be there!

  • Awesome concert

by Susan on 4/12/19Orpheum Theater - New OrleansRating: 5 out of 5

The band played for about 2 hours and kept the energy up the whole show. They sounded wonderful, better than on their albums. I'm so glad that I went!!

  • DCFC for the win!
