D.C. United History

D.C. United dominated the early days of MLS. They appeared in the league’s first four championship games, winning three of them, and added a fourth title in 2004, all before the league was even a decade old. They were dominant under the leadership of their first coach, Bruce Arena, from 1996 until 1998. He won 56 percent of his games in D.C., by far the best mark of any coach in team history.

Between 1997 and 2007, the United earned four Supporters’ Shields for best regular season record and claimed three U.S. Open Cup trophies in 1996, 2008 and 2013. The team’s alumni include a league-best four MVP recipients: Marco Etcheverry in 1998, Christian Gomez in 2006, Luciano Emilio in 2007 and Dwayne De Rosario in 2011. D.C. entered a new era with the arrival of English star Wayne Rooney in 2018. United's 2018 debut season in Audi Field was a success thanks in large part to Rooney.

    MLS

    by W. A. on 4/9/19Audi Field - Washington

Audi field is a great venue for soccer, but they must do a much better job controlling/expediting traffic in and out. It was a mess. On the field of play, until MLS gets professional referees they will drive lot a fans away. After watching English Premiere League Saturday mornings and then seeing what MLS offers, it can be tough to watch the product. People don’t come to see refereeing and poor game management.

    The experience

by The Raven 329 on 3/13/19Audi Field - Washington

It was exciting and that D.C. United manage to defeat the defending MLS Cup Champions as the only shutout game in the first week of MLS 2019 season.

AWESOME - Great Activity with Friends or Family!!!

    by CA2DC99 on 10/17/18Washington DC

I've been taking both family and friends to DC United games this year, and everyone has an absolutely great time!! We've been Nats season tix holders for years, so that's what I'm comparing my stadium experience to, and DC United doesn't disappoint. If you went to any DC United games at RFK, this is a COMPLETELY different experience. Much, much, much better!! My kids, who are huge Nats fans, now tell me that DC United games are much more fun and exciting than baseball. I have to agree. I've also brought friends who are somewhat "soccer skeptics", and they leave blown away by the Audi Field experience. The stadium, which is 2 blocks from Nats park, is designed to feel as though you're sitting right on top of the field. The famous DC chef Jose Andres runs the concessions, so the food is surprisingly good. Parking is annoying, but no different from Nats field. Metro & Uber are easy alternatives.

Probably the best DC sports team to see live, other than maybe the Caps. Great stadium too

Very bad fan experience! Terrible Staff!

    by emata015 on 9/14/18Audi Field - Washington

I'll try to keep this message as short as I can, so my wife, 3yr old and I decided to catch a game in DC. At arrival, took 30 minutes to go through the entrance gate at the "New Audi Field". After we were finally in we had tickets for section 116 row 1 "right behind one of the goals" and no staff in that side of the stadium seemed to know where that was. They had an entrance on sec 114 and another on 117 and just kept sending us back and forth with big attitudes like it was our fault we couldn't find our seats in a stadium we've never been in. Finally after getting upset I had to break through a gap in the gates to get to our seats and of course getting yelled at. Thought that be the worse with Audi Fields staff but no, right before half time my toddler needed to go to the restroom, I asked him to hold it until half since it was only a few minutes away and right when half ended I got up from my seat to make a restroom run and got yelled at "again" and was told to wait until everyone from the field left through the tunnel that was right beside us, making it seem like me and my 3yr old were a threat to the players leaving the field? It was the WORST professional sports event I have every been to!! nothing against DC UNITED, the team is doing a great job recruiting players building their soccer program and making the game worth watching for every soccer fan around the world. But who ever is responsible for the staff working at Audi Field please regroup and train your staff to make fans have a way better experience. At the end of the day the fans are the reason why you all have jobs, make them/us want to come back.

    Hot Water

by EEYEMNDR on 9/6/18Audi Field - Washington

The game was awesome, but the water near the bathrooms near Section 118, was scalding hot. Great goals from Acosta and Rooney. Had an awesome time. Very customer friendly.

    Audi Field is GREAT!

by Ramosj on 9/5/18Audi Field - Washington

This isn’t a soccer specific stadium and I really enjoyed being there! There isn’t a bad seat in the stadium. Seats around 20,000 so there aren’t really nosebleed seats.

No bad seats at a DC United game

by OhioianInDC on 9/3/18Audi Field - Washington

I went to the DC United vs Orlando SC game & had a great time. It rained for most of the day but there wasn't an issue with standing water on the field. The design of the stadium makes you feel like you're right up against the field (though this requires having pretty steep steps so be careful in your goal celebrations). The concessions and facilities all seemed like they should, better than what I expected so early after opening the stadium. We initially sat on the corner of the field opposite of the supporters section and could see everything going on. We then moved to the opposite side to see the field from the sideline & it didn't disappoint. The only cons are that the food isn't amazing and everything is quite expensive (standard for most stadiums these days). I plan to go to more DC United games & will consider any concerts there too.

    Amateur hour at Audi Field

by DNAminus on 9/1/18Audi Field - Washington

First, the game started at 8pm on a Wednesday. I have to be at work early, so that's really inconvenient. Next, there was no internet connectivity at Audi Field, so my phone couldn't download the tickets via the mandated Ticketmaster app, leaving me standing at the gate like a jerk while everyone went in ahead of me struggling to find the tickets. Finally, just as I started to lose my temper, the nice young lady who was checking people in at the scanner just let me and my wife pass. On the way out later, my wife wanted to take a cab. The traffic control people at the corner of Potomac Ave and South Capitol wouldn't let the cabbie turn, forcing him to drive over the bridge into Anacostia and treat us to a $10, 20-minute tour of SE Washington on the way home.

    Audi field DC United

    by JacenSolo5555 on 8/27/18washington DC

What a great place to watch soccer compared to an old football stadium. Overall great experience, they could work on getting more efficient at food service speed. Hopefully that improves over time. Easy walk from Navy Yard metro. Next time with kids i'll check out the city bus that runs to the field on game days.

    Audi Field IS Great BUT...

by KatInDC on 8/22/18Audi Field - Washington

I love the new stadium and its location (I can walk to the stadium from the apt), But the tickets prices are pretty steep compared to last years. I want to go to more games...but it cost too much. I'll just have to watch them on TV :( Like every says, the seats and stair are sooo steep made my stomach turn a bit sitting in section 103, but I appreciate the clear view of the field. I think the paperless tickets are wonderful bc you don't have to walk through a maze of hustlers trying to sell you fake tickets as you walk close to the stadium.

Lot's of hype for an underwhelming experience

    by DCcomeup324723 on 8/22/18Audi Field - Washington

Audi Field is good at best - with an intense incline up to the "nosebleeds", I was fooled to believe that a 100 level seat at row 32 would be alright. I was so wrong! The stairs up to these seats are STEEP and you're sure to be out of breath by the time you reach the top. Wouldn't recommend these seats to anyone that isn't physically fit. Actual seats are OK quality, as is most of the stadium. It was built quite quickly, and the quality of it shows. It was most frustrating to leave the stadium, as the layout has very few exit points. The best part about this place is the location - stunning views of the Capitol and the FOOD. Whoever set up the vendors did everything right!!
