About

DAVE KOZ IN CONCERT:

When Dave Koz takes the stage, all is quiet as the audience intently listens to every pure note from the seasoned saxophonist. Playing both tenor and alto sax, his fingers glide across the instrument with an ease that can't be matched. Whether he's performing chart-topping hits like "Life In the Fast Lane" and "Put the Top Down" or launching into an epic solo, Koz's grace on the woodwind instrument is exceptional, full of trills, thrills, and spontaneity during his hit-filled set lists. Dave Koz returns to the stage in 2014 for his upcoming Summer Horns tour as well as a string of highly anticipated shows with Barry Manilow.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Starting out in his high school's jazz band, Dave Koz fell in love with the saxophone early on, deciding to pursue music full time after graduating from college. He landed on tour with Bobby Caldwell not long after and served as a studio musician in the '80s before launching his breakout solo career. Since then, Koz has released 15 studio albums — eight of which have reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Jazz chart — and four No. 1 jazz singles. Not only is the nine-time Grammy nominee a sensational saxophonist, but he's also a radio personality, television host, and philanthropist, serving as a Global Ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation. Koz will delight fans with his smooth jazz sounds on his upcoming tour dates.

  • Dave Koz and Brian Culbertson rocked the zoo!

by S4Life on 7/19/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

This was my forth year attending a Dave Koz concert at the Zoo! As usual, Dave and his guest put on an amazing show. The energy and excitement that Dave Koz brings to the stage keeps the audience engaged and pulls out the sometimes hidden child in everyone. The crowd was wild, dancing, singing, clapping. I had forgotten how great an on stage entertainer Brian Culbertson was. The chemistry between Dave and Brian was outstanding! I can't wait go again next year. This is an annual event that should not be missed!

  • Koz and Culbertson are Smokin' Hot!

by smoothjazzfan on 7/19/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

Dave Koz and Brian Culbertson and their band rocked the house! It still amazes me how Dave switches from alto to soprano to tenor sax so effortlessly! Having never seen Brian Culbertson in concert before, I was really impressed with his keyboard and trombone playing. Dave and Brian are excellent musicians and showmen. Randy, Rubber Hand Man, the other keyboard player and the drummer were also top notch! The concert was so enjoyable that I was sad to see it end.

  • Amazing is not the word for this Concert

by Madammay on 7/19/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

This Concert was Invigorating and Exciting. This is my first one ever attended and I did not want it to end. I have always like all the artists on WNUA but Dave Koz and Brian knocked my socks off Friday. I am so glad I took a day off work for this one. It was well worth it. My 24 year old son went with me and he had as much fun as I did. It was not only great seeing these two artist do their thing but it was so funny to see how they put us at ease and clowned around just like regular folks. Their crew even hammed it up for us. Thanks again for a great show.

  • Unforgettable

by MaryMary on 7/18/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

Dave Koz is an amazing artist in several respects. This was my fifth Koz show within the last 2.5 years. He has the incredible ability to draw the crowd in and make us feel like anappreciated family. He manages to display the entire band as one, as well as showing the wonderful camaraderie and friendship within the band. This ability makes him even more appealing as an artist. I come away from his shows with an increased amount of respect for him and also with the artists that he working with. To keep us looking for more and excited about his next show, he adds something new each time, while at the same time, giving us enough of his familiar songs and performances to make us feel 'at home'. He chooses amazing artists to work with each time, and always spotlights each artist on stage, as he stands back and removes himself from the 'limelight. The shows are very high energy and very fun to watch. When they are enjoying themselves so much and drawing us in, its impossible not to have fun at his shows. Time flies. I love the diverse crowd and how the invisible lines of segregation in our society seem to disappear at these performances.

  • OMG! Dave Koz and Brian Culbertson-AWESOME!

by laurielwags on 7/18/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

WOW! What a night! Dave and Brian are a smooth jazz match made in heaven! I have been to many of their concerts that they have done together, as well as individually. I don't think that any of them matched what they did last night. I was on my feet more than in my chair. They are both sooooo talented in their own genre. Brian is a genius on the keyboard and there is no one better than Dave Koz on the Sax. They're showmanship is incredible, I could listen to them forever. Not to mention the two guitarist that accompanied them. The one they called "Rubber hands" was like no other, I have never seen anyone play the guitar like that. The "crazy one" added some comedy to the show, he was great also. I just want to say thank you for making these shows available, they are sensational.

by Benford on 7/18/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great! Dave puts on a heck of a show. He can really play that horn! The on-stage antics with Brian and the two guitarists were hilarious. Brian is terrific on the keyboards and seems to have boundless energy. I enjoyed the familiar, as well as, the new songs that had yet been heard. Overall, it was a fabulous show. I can't wait for the next Dave Koz and friends show, or the next Christmas show. Keep up the good work guys!

  • Culbertson and koz were outstanding

by deelee on 7/18/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

The show was outstanding, our seats were great, the auditorium, The Venue is a great place to have a show. The Only! downfall of this great show and show place is that one has to walk through a smoke filled casino to get to the Venue, and people with cigarettes are everywhere! one walks.

The show was absolutely amazing in regards to live entertainment. Brian's ability on the keyboard was excellent. Dave's energy with the audience was more than expected. The duo put together a spectacular show with the additions of band members that just as well were phenomenal. Would definitely go to see the duo again.

  • Dave Koz and Friends

    by halfpint1933 on 7/18/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

It was absolutely fabulous. One of two of the best shows I have ever seen (the other one being Dave Koz's Christmas Show). Dave Koz is THE best performer I know of. I am 76 years old, been in show business as a Chorus Line Dancer and have seen many shows. Except for Charlie Parker, Dave Koz is by far Number 1. He plays from the heart and you feel his every note as if he is playing just to you. He is so talented, he's funny, he's sincere and he is everyday people. Brian Culberson is simply great. This is my first time seeing him, and I was so impressed I had to jump out of my seat and dance when he was playing. You can see he feels his music and I've never seen anyone play a piano the way he does. It was fantastic. They make a great pair and should always tour together - well, at least every two years.

Best choreographed Jazz concert I've every witnessed!

  • dave & brian are an amazing side by side!!!

The two hours at the Horseshoe Casino Venue starring Dave Koz and Brian Culbertson were so amazing! The energy those two have, the music they play, the dance moves, the stories they tell, their creativity, their cuteness, all contribute to one of the best shows. I would not tire to see it again. They took no breaks and it felt like they were up there ten minutes. The time just flew by. While driving home last night I was still pumped up reviewing the fantastic night I just had. It is so special knowing how great they are, that they give the band members a chance to shine in their own ways.

the jazz sounds of the individuals is great but when the two paired up it sounds incredible. They seem to compliment each other so well.
