About

DAVE KOZ IN CONCERT:

When Dave Koz takes the stage, all is quiet as the audience intently listens to every pure note from the seasoned saxophonist. Playing both tenor and alto sax, his fingers glide across the instrument with an ease that can't be matched. Whether he's performing chart-topping hits like "Life In the Fast Lane" and "Put the Top Down" or launching into an epic solo, Koz's grace on the woodwind instrument is exceptional, full of trills, thrills, and spontaneity during his hit-filled set lists. Dave Koz returns to the stage in 2014 for his upcoming Summer Horns tour as well as a string of highly anticipated shows with Barry Manilow.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Starting out in his high school's jazz band, Dave Koz fell in love with the saxophone early on, deciding to pursue music full time after graduating from college. He landed on tour with Bobby Caldwell not long after and served as a studio musician in the '80s before launching his breakout solo career. Since then, Koz has released 15 studio albums — eight of which have reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Jazz chart — and four No. 1 jazz singles. Not only is the nine-time Grammy nominee a sensational saxophonist, but he's also a radio personality, television host, and philanthropist, serving as a Global Ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation. Koz will delight fans with his smooth jazz sounds on his upcoming tour dates.

  • The best duo I have seen

by bridgeman on 7/20/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson and Dave Koz are gifted musicians and excellent entertainers as well. For almost two hours it was non-stop. Brian was phenomenal on the keyboard. At times his hands were a blur they were moving so fast. Dave has the ability to touch the soul with the sounds that come from his sax. It was almost magical. They work very well together on stage and their music blends together perfectly. I can't wait for them to come back to the Chicagoland.

  • Great show!!

Dave plays with heart. He truly is having fun at every year's visit to the Music at the Zoo. This year, with Brian Culbertson, adding flair as these two amazing musicians combined their unique styles of music. The band is very talented as well as entertaining. We can't wait to see what Dave has planned for next year.

  • Amazing

by Davekozfan on 7/20/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic show !! However why was not this event advertised as a show for 21 and above. We did know about this and we brought out 12 yr old who was not allowed to enter the event as it was held in the Casino !! And so we had take turns watching this event !! I know it is written on the ticket but that was in small print and very easily ignored !!

OMG. They were fantastic. They put on a really lively show. I can't wait to see them again. They had so much energy and showmanship. I couldn't stay in my seat. Please let me know when their next show is coming so I can get my tickets early.

  • Dave Koz rocks!!

by ChefPatty on 7/19/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

Dave Koz is a great entertainer. Of course we all know he's an outstanding sax player too. Dave and Brian Culbertson played pretty much non-stop for two hours. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole show including their accompanying animated musicians. The Venue was a great size and setting for this show.

  • koz n culbertson were on fire!

Dave Koz and Brian Culbertson gave it their all and the fans that packed the Minnesota's zoo amphetheater Saturdaty night couldn't have been happier. The energy that filled the crisp night air was enough to set place on fire. They did a superb job of mixing old favorites with new songs that melted the hearts of all ages that turned out to hear the awesome duo. I can't imagine anything better than a cool relaxing night out with the steamy jazzy sounds of Dave/Brian and the boyz.

by cwebs on 7/19/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

Brian Culbertson brought a high energy to the show and both he and Dave Koz collaberated very well on their music. I just wish we still had a Smooth Jazz radio station in the Twin Cities so that people could hear their music more often.

  • Dave Koz was average.........

by malan4concerts on 7/19/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 3 out of 5

Dave has come a long way in the last 4 years that I have attended his concerts at the zoo but failed to deliver the goods this year. Of the 15 or so songs played I was impressed by only 5 or 6 as the rest were too slow or appeared to be love songs. I will give him an A for effort in his attention to the fans, a sign of a true performer but in the end it is all about the music. Bring me back to the style and music selection when he was here with Rick Braun as a guest and I will praise accordingly.

This is the 2nd years in a row that I have attended Dave Koz's concert at the MN Zoo Amphitheater. We enjoyed last years show and expected nothing less from this year's show. With Brian Culbertson at his side, they put on quite an unbelievable concert. We even took some friends this year and we have all put it on the calendar as an annual event. Keep coming back Dave, as I will always be there.

  • Dave Koz was amazing!

  • Amazing Dave Koz!!

by Marskib on 7/19/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing talent Dave Koz is! He is such a thrill to hear and to watch. It was great to see him play with Brian Culbertson, they really combined their talents and their own songs very well! With his Minnesota connections he really makes you feel like he truly likes to put on a show for the nice intimate audience of the zoo. Can't wait to see him again!

  • Dave Koz & Brian Culbertson....a class act

by jazz4life on 7/19/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

Each year when Dave Koz plays the MN Zoo Weisner Amphitheater it tops the previous year's performance. This year was no exception with Dave sharing the stage with the funky and talented Brian Culbertson. These two complimented each other on their most popular songs, gave a fun & playful performance on stage and it just kept coming for over two hours.

  • Koz/Culbie - what a match!

by CMM9 on 7/19/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

Their music is much more similar than I expected but they sounded great together. The Amphitheatre venue suited their style extremely well. I was hoping to hear 'Funkin Like My Father' but there were plenty of other songs to keep the toes tapping! I especially like that they shared the stage for most the entire concert - not having Brian play first, then Koz second and then join together on stage.

  • face to face dave and brian

  • Absolutely FAB!

by DeezMuzik on 7/19/09The Venue - HammondRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time attending an event at The Venue and it was amazing! The acoustics were excellent the view from any seat in the house was clear and unobstructed. The show was electrifying! Koz and Culbertson should tour together more often. And bring Rick Braun along for the ride to have that "JB horn section" effect! The guitarist and bassist were outstanding as well. Overall great show!
