Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour
Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT
Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY
"Funniest live performance I've witnessed to date. You will be quoting Chappelle after the show. I was laughing so hard that it started to hurt. Great show from start to finish."
"Dave...he is a comedic genius and one of the best ever. He was amazing and I wished I could have gotten in line and gone to the second show!"
"He was hilarious. Talked about some of his history and was not afraid to get the audience involved. I had a great time."
We had a blast and the comedians that accompanied him were hilarious. I loved the show over all the music was great.
Haven't made it out to a show in a while, best show I been to in over a year
The comedians that came up before him were decent. There was one guy just before Dave chapelle in a green suit that cracked me up. The energy started to get bigger and bigger. Then when Dave came on and started speaking the energy completely dissolved. I have watched a few shows of him on tv and he seemed funny on most occasions. But this show he did in Portland was horrible. I think I might have laughed once. I honestly left before the show ended and just about feel like I wasted a bunch of money for nothing. This show in total costed me over $500 with missing a day of work. And in the same scenario if you gave me free tickets to any future shows I would definitely decline.
MODA center was so disorganized and unclear. It was truly a disappointment and I will not be attending any further shows after this experience. The show itself was okay- but I’d much rather have watched it on Netflix then deal w 6 hrs of getting in and waiting to see who I came to actually see. I understand they had to stall because others were still waiting in line (which could have went faster if MODA staff was organized) I mean the facility does this on a daily basis. Overall it was really hard to understand the other comedians-it sounded muffled like the individuals were too close to the mic. I couldn’t make out what was actually being said and neither could my partner that attended the show w me. I think the phone thing is a wonderful idea but pls make it clear as to where we unlock the yonder bag and staff shouldn’t look like crowd members. Dave’s was alright.
As expected Dave never disappoints. He delivery is always impeccable and the subject transition are flawless.
I got my husband tickets to this show for his birthday. The experience to get inside was ridiculous. It took about 45 minutes to get inside because they required everyone to lock all smart devices inside their own individual pouch. They didn't want anyone filming the performance. This slowed down entering the building immensely! Sadly a woman seated right in front of us was drunk & loud and she and her partner got ejected from the show less than 10 minutes after it started. Dave Chappelle was better than I expected. I prefer more light-hearted comedy, but I did appreciate that he had some good messages.
I had to strain super hard to hear the comedians. For being as huge as moda is, their sound sucks. Comedians were funny, but I could only make out half of what they were saying. For $75 a ticket- it would have been nice to actually hear anything
Dave does not disappoint! Thank you for an amazing show!
Been watching Chappelle for decades, his stand up is hilarious, can’t wait for more shows.
If he tours again I will be there. His delvery of jokes is unmatch.
The show it self was amazing. Dave did a great job. I didn’t get to see the acts before him though so I can’t say how they did. But he did great. But the wait time in line was awful. And it all just seemed so unorganized. No signs on where to go or we stood in like for 15 minutes before someone let us know it was the handicapped line. So us and a whole line of people behind us had to scatter to find the right lines to get into. Where we had stand in line for over 45 minutes. There was so many people cutting the line and they wouldn’t do anything about it. I’ve gone to many concerts and shows over the years first time going to the Portland arena and it was by far the worst. Very unorganized.
We were treated to a fun show when Dave finally came out. Warm up act consisting of 3 comedians. (Can't recall names) disappointing for us. First one was good..last two not (sorry to you fans of theirs). Acoustics for all 3 bad (we were seated in Section 2). Couldn't understand most of their routines..I even fell asleep for a few min on my husband's shoulder! Dave was amazing...although not on stage long enough, but very, very happy with his performance! We really guffawed! Summary..please confirm acoustics are perfect..we pay alot of money and sound should reflect that. Consider dropping a warm act individual and give us another 15 min if Dave. Drinks overpriced; paid 52.00 for two small plastic cups of double shot margaritas. Hadn't been to Moda Ctr in a couple years. Very good venue.
What more can you say… he’s the goat of comedy. You have go see Dave if he’s in your city. Love the show.
Improve the phone lock process and time it takes to get into the event. In line over an hour and missed openers. Dave was terrific.
The show was great. Dave and his openers kept us laughing the entire night once we finally got into the moda center. It took almost an hour to get in, which felt absolutely RIDICULOUS. It was a no phones show so I understand it needing to take extra time, but there should be a better flow than that. Talent 5 stars, venue 2, overall experience 3 thanks to the amazing comedians.
Possibly the best comedy show I’ve been to. I wish the merch stands would have had shirts with ‘The Lunatic’s Manifesto’ on them. That title is perfection and I would have bought one in heartbeat! Also, the free bags at venue was smart.
My 18 year old son had never been to a comedy show. We had the best time and I laughed so hard my stomach and face hurt days after!
Chapelle and his crew put on a fantastic show. The moda center did not fail to provide. Hands down one of the top five shows I have seen to date
He used to be funny with new material and now he is making money on his reputation alone and cashing in with trite used material that is not funny or creative. Now he smokes, retreads unoriginal content with no new inspiring, creative or compelling material. Hang it up Dave.
The show was nothing spectacular after waiting an hour to get inside since you have to lock your phone up Daves show was rather short and just average comedy. He was funny but not what I expected.
