Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour
Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT
Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY
"Funniest live performance I've witnessed to date. You will be quoting Chappelle after the show. I was laughing so hard that it started to hurt. Great show from start to finish."
"Dave...he is a comedic genius and one of the best ever. He was amazing and I wished I could have gotten in line and gone to the second show!"
"He was hilarious. Talked about some of his history and was not afraid to get the audience involved. I had a great time."
Dave put on a great show and his openers were good too! Well worth the $$
Played to the audience, the show was great! DJ and three comedians opened all entertaining!
Dave Chappelle is hilarious. My husband and I laughed the whole time. Even the openers were knee slapping funny. Can't wait to see him again.
Every opening act was amazing and oniony , DJ kept the crowd going , and above all Dave Chappelle gave his all . I loved every minute of his performance kept me laughing from the beginning to the ends best comedy show I’ve ever been to. I love Dave Chappelle best comedian ever well worth the 5 hour drive to see him!!!!
First time at Moda where I experienced the best show that I have seen in a very long time. Enjoyed every moment of Dave Chappelle. The safety and cleanliness of the venue was also much appreciated.
I’m 45 never been to a concert or comedy show in my life, but I knew I wasn’t going to miss this! All way was and always will be the Man!
Once we got to the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, there was nowhere to park because all parking passes at 3 different garages were locked up with parking pass holders. If you didn't pre buy a parking pass in advance from Ticketmaster, you were out of luck. Also, assuming because of the cell phone lock up policy and Moda not being properly staffed or whatever, the lines were all the way outside the doors to the street at all doors, in the cold, and didn't appear to be moving at all. Lived in Portland my whole life and never saw such a complete mess at Moda of people waiting to get in the doors, well past show time even. Not sure why they couldn't process people through the front doors. After waiting for 90 minutes, we gave up and left. Have no problem with the idea of cell phone lock up but our event center didn't seem equipped to deal with it.
The show was good, the only thing tha would deter me from going again was the long wait to get in due to the no devices allowed, that made the wait extra long. Overall great show, sound at opening show was not very good, we could hardly hear what the comedian was saying.
We arrived 30min B4 the show was to start, waited Outside in the FREEZING Cold for an Hour and A Half to get into the MODA Center due to the Digital Ban, had to lock up phones and watches, go through essentially TSA security… took WAY to long!! Missed the opening act and half of the second … had Great Seats, definitely would not do it again… it was Ridiculous how long it took to get inside!!
Comics were great staff was great overall a wonderful experience
This venue has to address quicker access to freeway and exiting the parking structure.
It’s Dave Chappelle an amazing Mark Twain award winning comedian made it to Portland. Excellent story telling, jokes and callbacks. Dave can entertain his audience.
Briefly I'll just say seeing Dave Chappel is like hanging out with him as he tells stories about and opinions on life and culture always with a funny perspective. One of the greats!
We stood in line for over 90 minutes just to get in and missed the first two openers and most of the third. Dave was great. I’m not a fan of the venue and probably won’t go back to the Moda Center. Spending hours getting in, and back out, to only see an hour of the show isn’t worth my time.
Was very excited to go and see Dave Chapelle. Is my husband all time favorite. & anniversary gift. The show was great laughed a lot ! Getting into the show was very disappointing. There were single lines at the end of the lines but once you got to the front looked like a concert with no such thing as a line.. just a bunch of people standing around. . Wasn’t sure if the doors opened at 730 and when his guest performers came on.. but only had time to see him by the time we got in the Moda center. Would have been nicer after the show if we got our phones unlocked so we could have captured the moment and had a picture to look back On for memeory.. but I understand. Would definitely go again. But leave 2-3 hours prior to the starting.
The show was amazing. Dave Chappelle is an icon and didn’t disappoint. Took awhile to get in the venue, but once we were in had the time of my life.
Seeing & hearing Dave Chappelle is a highlight of my yr! He's genuinely personable, remarkably intelligent & expressive, joyously hilarious.
I didn’t like the situation where I had to lock my phone away. It was my wife’s birthday and I spent my savings for her and I to get front row seats. And I couldn’t even get a picture of us at the show for the memory because we’ll probably never get the opportunity again.
The show was great, Dave is the greatest comedian alive so I'm glad we got to see him. It was expensive, so probably a one time thing for us. The locking up of the cell phones is not a big deal and the fact that they give you a nifty tote bag to carry it in! Which is some nice free merch.
Because it was a phone free event people had to wait to get into the motor Center in numbers I’ve never seen before. it took us over an hour to get in and we were an hour early. Once we got in the show was fine. It was funny. But it was tough to be in a laughing mood after that long will wait. Show show w
