Such an amazing show, fantastic dancing, a variety of great music (including music from Stevie Wonder)! Three pieces with two intermissions in between. The tribute to Hazel Scott was particularly touching. And it's just great to be able to see live dance in a theater again!
Very impressed with the level of dance performed. My two daughters thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The dancers were awesome! Their physique and stamina was incredible. Very Talented! A must see!
Loved every moment of performance and the venue. However, parking access, both arriving and departing, sucked! Needed a few bodies to help direct traffic.
The music and the choreography were outstanding. The dancers were extremely talented.
The entire night was great. Out of the entire evening, the only thing that happened that I wasn't use to was the show started a little late. Being one that frequent plays and shows in New York City as well as here in the Washington DC area, about 95% of the time the shows started on time. Every dancer, all the music, and the production was breathtaking. I'd go see it again and again.
The first half of the show is more of the classical ballet; then it gets totally lit with a ballet performance with a twist of jazz, modern and hip-hop to songs by legendary artists like Aretha Franklin and James Brown! OMG it was fire!
Breathtaking, precision and fluid are just a few words that describe the wonderful evening of entertainment. The ballet choreography was rhythmic, seemingly complex as well as majestically & beautifully executed. The ballet dancers skilled with their own style which made every move organic. The melaninated hues of each dancer against the vibrant and colorful costumes brought about a beautiful cornucopia of visual pleasantries. I found it a nice touch to add a bit of current dance trends in the show as an ode to James Brown and Aretha Franklin was part of the finale. I was in awe at the Dance Theatre of Harlem ballet dancers and know exactly why they have been around for 50 years.
The show was amazing the seats were pretty good (center Mezz). I would love to see them perform again. The stage manager was very accommodating for people who arrived after the show began.
From Tchaikovsky to Aretha the Dance Theatre of Harlem performance was beautiful, moving and exciting. In one piece titled Passages some of the movement was so complex we are still discussing it days later. I only wish they toured more.
Excellent talents of all the dancers with a story line. Exquisite costumes for each theme. Nice musical compositions. Was not sure if I had selected good seats but I did!!! My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the shows. Cudos
Really enjoyed performance. Beautiful costumes and wonderful choreography. Could have been less intermissions and didn’t start on time due to introductions of sponsors. Looking forward to seeing again.
Getting tickets at Will Call was challenging, you had to stand in long lines, some people were still trying to get tickets and the show had already started. There was an usher getting tickets for people in the back of the line when it should have been next in line, she told me she could only do 2 or 3 at a time, so after maybe her 4th trip inside to get tickets, I give her my ID, she comes back and says they can't find it, luckily I had my order number. The first dance they did was way too long and without any backdrop boring, pretty much the same thing for the second and then you have these long intermissions. Crying babies, that I know you have no control over. The last 2 numbers that had more of an African vibe and were upbeat were really good. It just appeared like they said let's bring a few dancers to Norfolk,VA. and give them a sample, it was not worth the price of the tickets. Leaving Chrysler Hall you almost need a boat for all that water that was flooding down the steps just to get to your car. Overall, it wasn't an enjoyable event for me, if I could have gotten my money back I would have.
MY DAUGHTER,GRANDDAUGHTER AND I HAD A WONDERFUL TIME.THE DANCERS WERE SO GOOD
Experience was positive, enjoyable. Program showed strength, pose, strong muscle tone and control. Getting in, out of the theater was a well handled by the Chrysler Theater Staff and good parking space.
It started on time it was exciting and it was very informative and entertaining
The performances were amazing!!! I am so glad that I had the opportunity to go and would definitely recommend everyone to go at least once.... and take a little person with you.
Breathtaking performance! So happy I was able to attend and bring my son so that he could experience it. We both were on the edge of our seats throughout the show.
The Dance group of Harlem were very professional and talented. Look forward to there return next year!
