Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

Even in the nose-bleeds: the game was AWESOME.

by Biktoria on 10/18/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

This hockey game was both my fiance and my first game. We sat in the super cheap seats- section 324 row P. I believe that was only 5 or so rows from the very very top. The game was still awesome! We saw everything- never losing sight of the puck. We saw all of the fights! The seats were great-- don't think that you need to get "good seats" just to enjoy the game. Also, hockey is one of the more quiet sports. It seemed that people only made noise towards the end when they were all drunk. LOL.

The whole experience was awesome it was my first time going to a hockey game and I was really surprised of the whole thing. The seats were great had a good view, we sat in section 221 on the platinum level, the waiters that came by were nice, the food and the atmosphere was great. I liked that I didn't have to walk downstairs to smoke either. I would so get more seats on the platinum level.

Game was great. But it was feezing at the arena. I probably would of enjoyed it more if there were more hot cocoa stands or just tad bit warmer!

    The Arena Was Great!

by M99wg on 10/16/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

Although Detroit didn't win the atmosphere was great. The people in Dallas were friendly and the service was good. Being near the Westend in Dallas makes this venue a very good location.

    Greatly enjoyed first NHL game

by Jose1234 on 10/16/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

I was in the Dallas area to see the Dallas Cowboys. While there I got a chance to catch a baseball and hockey game. I had end zone seats for the Cowboys (not very good seats) and I found myself watching the game on the big screen rather than the field. Sort of defeats the purpose of being there live vs watching on TV. Still being in that new spectacular Cowboys stadium with over 80,000 fans blew me away. Had a good seat for the Rangers game between first and third base. It was a playoff game, beautiful stadium and experience. Loved it. I did not have high expectations of the hockey game. I sat far up back having a long view of the rink. When the NHL guys started skating on the rink, I was amazed by how fast they moved around the rink. The action was fast back and forth with no break in the game. It was easy to follow, unlike the football game, and you were on the edge of your seat for the whole game. At the end, I found that I enjoyed hockey, more than baseball and football. This coming from a guy thats seen countless hours of baseball and football while only seeing a handful of hockey games. i plan to go back and catch another game. I also want to say that American Airlines arena, and the Dallas Stars presentation were all top-notch.

    Great experience with a hiccup

by Allen29 on 10/16/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

Ottoberfest deal for two. $99 got me two platinum level seats on the players side almost center ice. View was amazing. The package came with two free tee shirts and two drinks. Our only problem was that the area to redeem our tee shirts was set up in front of section 318. They only had medium and extra large sizes. I wear a large. While on the third we decided to use our drink coupons. With beer and nachos in hand we headed toward our seats. We then found out we couldn't get back to the second level with beer. We had to hurry and eat our food before going down a level. We shouldn't have had to go to section 318. Everything after that was great.

    Stars Were Shining Bright

by PlanoDeano on 10/16/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

I haven't been to a Stars game in several years and man I'm glad I went to see them play their home opener against the Red Wings! It was a great game, it helps when they win, great seats and especially a great date. It was her first hockey game to ever go too. She was hooked. The Stars have a new fan. I will def try to make it to more Stars games this season especially if I can get these seats again.

    love these seats

by tanner13 on 10/16/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

although I was not too happy with the sloppy play of the game or the outcome (Go Wings), I always love sitting in this section. The seats are great, they are even a little less expensive then the surrounding areas, and you have an awesome view of the ice. The total bonus is that they are on the Platinum level - access to select restaurants, bar, buffet, etc. Totally a different experience than downstairs and I love it. I prefer these seats to sitting down in the lower bowl any day.

Great Game good Seat......The "Net" did interfered with clear view of the entire rink!....I thought the Paperless Ticket was Great, as it allowed me to check in at any entrance with my credit card for identification and a Ticket was printed for me right on the spot...No wait in line at "Will Call"....A very 'Slick' operation!!
