Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

    Stars were forgetable

by Nolan2go on 10/28/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

This was my first Stars game and I was pretty excited about going. I didn't know what to expect but from the beginning I was not impressed. The American Airline Center was outstanding but the game wasn't. I'm just not a hocky fan.

    Go Stars!

by Customer13 on 10/27/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

Though the outcome was not as desired with a 1-0 Stars loss, the experience of a very competitive hockey team was excellent, and exciting. I took my son for his birthday because the Ott-toberfest promotion was a reasonably priced way for him to experience his favorite sport, team and player in person; I hope the Stars continue to look for ways to promote hockey to the faithful (because it was very distressing to see all those lower bowl seats unused). I *do* wish the Platinum Level service personnel would show more care and effort toward getting out of the way of play when delivering food or drink or whatever; having view of play blocked by a fat guy in AAC gear bent over delivering beer got old quickly....

The Platinum Level seats are the best view of the hockey rink in the stadium! Great deal from the Ott-tober fest promotion!

    1st Time @ Ice Hockey

by Mickey66 on 10/26/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

1st time traveling across the USA and had the time to take in the Dallas Stars Ice Hockey game, found the rules confusing to start with but soon got the hang of the game. Well worth a visit the stadium / venue was great, the view was good from high up, all in all a great time.

Dallas Stars v Nashville Predators OTT-Toberfest

by AngelsRreal on 10/26/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

This was our first time at the American Airline Center & our first Pro Ice Hockey Game! It was for our Anniversary! We bought the Ott Package and everything was just great! Our seats, the complimentary t-shirts, the service and especially the game! Looking forward to doing it again. Next time, we want to take the Dart, so we do not have to deal with traffic.

Very lack luster crowd - little energy. Team did not seem to be hustling for the puck.

Duplicate tickets were issued so we couldn't sit in the seats we paid for. T-shirt was easily obtained. Would prefer more sizes to be available. Vouchers were easy to use. Stars lost. Game was boring.

I liked everything about this deal except that the shirts were only offered in 2 sizes M and XL. I got a M and it is huge on me and I will never wear it because it is too big and overall that is really the only thing I am upset with.

Dont be late to low scoring sports!!!!!!!!!

by NicKaleo on 10/25/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

We made it to the arena and were in our seats 4 minutes after the face off due to traffic, only problem was the only goal of the game came 20 seconds after faceoff. Crowd was small and lame, couldnt get any GSG or LGS chants to support the team going. The radio type "drops" are very lame and should be cut from the program, music was ok.

    Game Day

by Polomatic on 10/24/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

Got the tickets on time and everything went extrememely well. The stars even won that game which made the event ever better. Had no problem ordering the tickets and got the tickets in time for the event instead of dealing with will call.

    Peace! Love! Hockey!

by MachinistGirl on 10/22/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

Going to watch a Dallas Stars hockey game is always a fun family event for my niece and I. We love everything about every event. We always arrive early to enjoy the delicious food and drinks AAC provides for it's attending fans, shopping at the various, well-stocked souvenir shops and, of course we have nothing to complain about in your event staff and their friendliness. Thanks! We will definitely continue attending future games!

    Go Stars!!!

by Carrie08 on 10/18/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

The Dallas Stars versus the Detroit Red Wings was an amazing game! My husband and I really had a wonderful time....once we got INTO the arena. My mother and I purchased the tickets together as a birthday gift for my husband. We put them in her name....and then realized what we'd done. We called American Airlines Center, where an employee quickly assured us there would be no problems, they'd just put them in my name, and we were given a confirmation number. But when my husband and I arrived at the window, it took the will call office 45 MINUTES to find my tickets. The confirmation number we'd been given? Not recognized. Then, the ticket agent tried to give me someone else's tickets, driver's license, and credit card. (Yikes!) Finally, it was realized that the agent operating our window had neglected to give the correct name to the manager in charge, despite the fact she'd asked me to correctly spell the name three or four times. Because of their miscommunication and negligence, we missed the ENTIRE first period of the game. I complained to a manager, was told "It was our mistake, I'm sorry", but NOTHING was done to make up for the game time we'd missed, which really hurt since it had taken me two months to save up for those tickets. The Stars team itself was amazing, however, and the game was utterly fantastic....again, once we got INSIDE. We had an amazing time for the rest of the game. I strongly recommend that you go to as many Stars games as possible....and get there extra early in case the ticket office loses something!

I went to my first stars game and it was great. The AA arena is first class and it has all the latest services a fan would want. The atmosphere is great for a family and friends. The in seat concession services were first class and i thought the prices were very fair.

they won in the shoot out !!

by MsTammie on 10/18/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

We had to go to a lower floor to get the free drink and we were not allowed to bring it to the platinum level. We needed an ex-large and a large t-shirt. only ex-lg. and medium were available. The seats were good, the service was wonderful, the stars won.

    Shoot out!

by Langenbrunnerfanforever on 10/18/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

Great game! I haven't been to one live where a shoot out was a deciding factor of the game. Great atmosphere from all fans even the opposing players.

Stars are Awesome! Food is not!

by Ice4TylerTX on 10/18/10American Airlines Center - Dallas

The game was excellent, the seats were wonderful, and the waiting service was awesome (Jeffery was his name, he deserves a raise!). However, your concession prices are OVER THE TOP! I understand wanting to make a couple of bucks, but $7.50 for a decent beer is highway robbery. I already paid more than enough for the ticket. I'd love to come to more games and buy more concessions, as the quality of food and drinks is decent, but after the tickets (which aren't a terrible deal), I don't have $100.00 to blow on concessions. Anyway, I'll stop being a whiner, because who can go to a Stars game and not enjoy the hell out of that experience. I will certainly be back as often as I can afford it. GO STARS!
