Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

Would have been great if my view wasn't obstructed.

by Keifer on 11/29/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

Very disappointed that my vision was obstructed by the railings of a staircase that was in my direct line of sight to the ice. But that was only when the people constantly standing at the top of that staircase wasn't in my way. Ticketmaster didn't bother to have these seats marked as obstructed view or I would have picked a different seat location.

    Alright

by Sports Fan on 11/26/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

The game was fun! Two complaints were the seats are way too narrow and the crowd and almost break down of the escalators. Due to the amount of people, it took forever to get down. The escalators should be used only those in a party with someone that can't use the stairs.

    A 5 Star/Goal Experience For Sharks Fan’s 6th Ever Roadie

by Dodger Knight on 11/14/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

The Dallas Stars’ Friday, November 11, 2022 game was my 6th ever San Jose Sharks regular season road game attended. As the Main Event of my 1st ever trip to Texas that already included tours of AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and The Star In Frisco, this Sharks @ Stars game had some tough acts to follow; in the end, this hockey game had enough flair to cap off my 1st trip to Dallas in style. What made this night even more sweeter was having a Platinum Level seat. Even though I was near a cement wall that obstructed one corner of the ice rink, being on that level made me enjoy American Airlines Center more than I anticipated. I enjoyed a Dallas Hot Chicken Sandwich with a Bottomless Souvenir Soda; the bottomless soda would’ve been better if there were self-serve soda fountains throughout the arena (or just Platinum Level) like at the new Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. I was fortunate to sit next to some nice hometown Stars fans who enjoyed my stories about my 1st ever visit to Dallas that week. I even enjoyed sharing my Dallas stories with an usher (near The Hangar) on the Platinum Level. American Airlines Center is 1 of my new favorite NHL arenas. This was my best San Jose Sharks road trip so far, regardless of how the game turned out. Props to the Dallas Stars for making a dramatic finish.

    First Stars game

by Blake on 11/14/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

Came all the way from Phoenix to be able to attend my first stars game. Even though they lost, I had a great experience with American Airlines Center. The fans I sat next to were great - an overall great atmosphere. Happy to call the Dallas Stars my team. I’m already trying to figure out how I can come back

    Great Hockey Experience

by Fets on 11/10/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

The game presentation is much improved from last year. Maybe it was the Halloween influence, but the music and videos between periods and during game stoppages were excellent. Food choices look expanded as well.

Amazing Time - Welcoming Fans and Pleasant Arena Staff

by COAVSFan on 10/20/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

My boyfriend and I are doing an arena tour. He is a diehard Avs fan but a bucket list item of his is to visit every Hockey arena and buy that home teams jersey and cheer them on for that game. I started this goal with the arena tour last year when we went to Minnesota. However the game was against the Avs so even tho he bought the jersey it was not worn, nor could he cheer on the Wild. The Dallas Stars and American Airlines Arena were our 2nd stop. We brought my son to this one and it is my son's first NHL game. My son and I wore our Colorado jerseys even though this game was the Stars verses the Predators. I received nothing but compliments or positive interactions with Stars fans and Arena staff. Overall we had an amazing time and great experience. We actually really enjoyed Dallas, TX as a whole.

    Better than dickies

by ColoSTAR on 10/18/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

Got to love the horn. Seemed not as loud this year. The beer stands are so hospitalable when helping you decide you want to drop a pretty on. The tickets, and staff, beer people are nicer and more efficient than dickies, except lady in 118 haha! One night at aac then dickies the next realize how awesome aac is

Could NOT Have Asked For a Better Experience

by ImChiquita on 10/2/22BOK Center - Tulsa

This was a birthday gift for First Born. Holy cow, the seats were awesome! Right above the tunnel where the players enter the arena or return to the locker room. Could NOT have asked for better seats; I was just hoping to give First Born a chance to get close to the ice. It was a great game, with total family atmosphere. Lots of fun. No profanity in a public place (and believe me - in this day and age, that's unheard of), the people around us were friendly. Finding tickets on TicketMaster was a breeze, as was the payment. Tickets were from a third party, but

    Where are the Stars?

by MPBrad on 9/30/22BOK Center - Tulsa

Most people rarely get to witness a hockey game live. Even though it was a pre season game, dont the stars need to play as well? We all paid money to see scrubs that most will not make the team. To compound that, the team did not have enough merchandise. They left money on the table. Money that could have been spent on re signing Jason Robertson. But I digress. Finally, the sound in the BOK was wretched. Echos all over the arena.

    Great time

by Andy on 9/30/22BOK Center - Tulsa

We had a great time. Food was good, seats were great, staff was friendly at bok center. It was a very similar experience to attending a game at American Airlines center in Dallas.

    Pretty good time

by Random Dude on 9/30/22BOK Center - Tulsa

Seeing the Stars play is always a great time. The event venue had issues with entrance though the guards eventually relented as they couldnt point out any specific policy they were trying to enforce. Guess my keys looks suspicious to them? Overall it was a good time and I'll definitely go again. Wish i didnt have to pay extra for mobile only events to use my mobile. Likely buy my tickets at the discounted 918 Day sale next year or bypass everything and pay at the door. Much cheaper that way.
