Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

    Where are the Stars?

by MPBrad on 9/30/22BOK Center - Tulsa

Most people rarely get to witness a hockey game live. Even though it was a pre season game, dont the stars need to play as well? We all paid money to see scrubs that most will not make the team. To compound that, the team did not have enough merchandise. They left money on the table. Money that could have been spent on re signing Jason Robertson. But I digress. Finally, the sound in the BOK was wretched. Echos all over the arena.

    Great time

by Andy on 9/30/22BOK Center - Tulsa

We had a great time. Food was good, seats were great, staff was friendly at bok center. It was a very similar experience to attending a game at American Airlines center in Dallas.

    Pretty good time

by Random Dude on 9/30/22BOK Center - Tulsa

Seeing the Stars play is always a great time. The event venue had issues with entrance though the guards eventually relented as they couldnt point out any specific policy they were trying to enforce. Guess my keys looks suspicious to them? Overall it was a good time and I'll definitely go again. Wish i didnt have to pay extra for mobile only events to use my mobile. Likely buy my tickets at the discounted 918 Day sale next year or bypass everything and pay at the door. Much cheaper that way.

Exhilarating game that left me hoarse

    by J. A. on 5/16/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

One of the most exciting and intoxicating sporting events I've ever been to, the level of hype and intense atmosphere from regular season to playoffs is night and day. This game was absolutely incredible and I will definitely be back for round 1 playoffs next season. LET'S GO STARS

Awesome game, not so awesome fans

by Whatever303 on 5/16/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

The game couldn't have been better!!! The Stars won!! I would have given 5 stars but for both the games we went to, the drunk fans behind us ruined it especially when one fell forward onto the people in front of him (he fell two rows)!! Pretty sad when people can't just enjoy the game without getting falling down hammered!!

    Super Starz

This event was amazing. The game, atmosphere and everything inside and outside the arena was top notch. Could not have gotten better. A fantastic night! Go Stars!

    Excellent venue and definitely memorable

by Jason473 on 5/11/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

Definitely recommend a good hockey game when you’re in Dallas. The action is non-stop exciting. The AAC is a great venue and so far has been a very safe place. Security appears to be attentive and manages any possible issues. The food is pretty good and reasonable for a sporting event. While football may be king for now, if more people gave hockey a chance it could give the other local teams a run for its money, especially since they have more success reaching the post season!

    They played terrible

by Doug R. on 5/10/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

You asked for an opinion. They were not cohesive and not passing, setting up opportunities to score well. They had 54 shots on goal vs 35 for Stars, 101 attempted shots on goal vs 62 for us, they won the face offs consistently… it was an ugly game for certain.

Took a new person in town

by Eddie on 4/17/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

I had a friend that has never been to a Stars game. She accepted a job with the Mavericks and informed me she had never been to an NHL game so I took her for the experience! She absolutely loved it and wants to return to another game. Everyone I take to a game always wants to return because they had so much fun!

    Not so starred

by Irishsoldier on 3/29/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

Like always, event food and drinks are extremely over priced and for no good reason! Any ways this was my first Stars game and it was good competition, yet Stars just gave up and lost. Also most sport events I have been to, especially hockey get the crowed more involved with songs, prizes, events, etc. Also if ya leave for any reason they stop you from coming back!

    Youth jersey night.

by Ej on 3/29/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

I bought these tickets back in November. It was for a promotion night. Kids under 12 were supposed to get a youth blackout Jersey upon entry. When we got there, none of the children received it. We were sent to guest services and from there, we were told to contact some office in Frisco. I won’t be trusting the Dallas Stars marketing team or whoever sets all these up again.
