Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

Friendly crowd, easy entry, very loyal Stars’ fans and Sabres

by Jack on 1/26/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

Concessions crazy high priced. Very congested hallways. Very polite employees. Had great seats. But wait- there was too, too, too much VOLUME on the public address system. All music played was crazy LOUD. My ears were affected for hours after the game. And really- do the fans really find it necessary to yell out STARS during the National Anthem? Sort of bush league stuff. BUT- the Sabres won in o/t !!!!

    Fantastic Game!

by Druzil on 1/17/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

The Knight were going to be a tough opponent. The Stars played a magnificent game. 4 to 0. When they tried to pulled their goalie in the 3 period so that they wouldn’t be goalless we scored another goal.

    Great event

by The stars games are fun on 1/11/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

We had a great time at the stars game like always. Great atmosphere. The only bad thing I have to say is Ticketmaster sucks and is the worst company in the world.

    Seat Cushion was Terrible

by GW on 1/11/23American Airlines Center - Dallas

No one should have to sit in Seat 10 Row O Section 329. It is like a padded toilet seat. I’ve been to about 100 hockey games over the last 50 years and this seat is the worst. Popcorn was good except there were way too many unpopped kernels.

The event was awesome…and not just because the Stars won the game. The music is fun, the fans are happy. The ticketing process was easy and plenty of guidance was provided.

    Always Fun

by Phins on 12/27/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

They did their best to seat us close as my husband needed ADA accommodations. We had a group of 4 and could see each other but rotated seating each period.

    Oil comes to Texas

by Gcmprincess on 12/24/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

Loved the event! My daughter travelled from Edmonton to see the game and i came from Houston. The arena is great plent of reasonably priced food options, easy to get in and out and the Dallas fans are awesome friendly ( good banter) with great spirit. If i wouldn't get kicked out of the family, i might consider adopting them as my second team.

    Tickets great, parking = fail

by RedWingFan on 12/13/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

The tickets purchased from TicketMaster (direct, not resale) worked great. Simple to display barcode for scanner at arena door. The parking pass however had no barcode to display in the TM phone app. So when we tried to park, we had nothing for the attendant to scan! Also the pass did not even indicate WHICH garage or lot the pass was for!!! We were blessed to have friendly attendants who saw we had paid for parking *somewhere* and let us into the garage. One huge irritation was only being able to buy 4 tickets. We had 7 people, which is not enough for Group Sales at that arena. So by the time the other 3 people went online to get their tickets, the “dynamic pricing” had doubled the cost, and was too high for them. So the other family members did not get to go to the game. I am sure this is trying to prevent scalping, etc., but maybe increase that limit to 1 less than the Group Sales threshold???

    Great fun

by Ih on 12/7/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

The Dallas Stars have this down to science. The plan on the ice is good but the entire production of entertainment is also pretty good. I just wish it wasn't so expensive in the commercial break short so long

    Great Time

by Sal on 12/7/22American Airlines Center - Dallas

We love Dallas Stars and excited to go to another game. It was a Sunday 2 pm game which was great. The seats were great! Enough room and space for all three of us! We have tickets for January to see the Dallas Stars hockey again.
