D.C. United History

D.C. United dominated the early days of MLS. They appeared in the league’s first four championship games, winning three of them, and added a fourth title in 2004, all before the league was even a decade old. Between 1997 and 2007, the United earned four Supporters’ Shields for best regular season record and claimed three U.S. Open Cup trophies in 1996, 2008 and 2013.

The United’s alumni include a league-best four MVP recipients: Marco Etcheverry in 1998, Christian Gomez in 2006, Luciano Emilio in 2007 and Dwayne De Rosario in 2011. Emilio and Rosario became the first two of three D.C. Golden Boot recipients in 2007 and 2011, respectively, followed by Christian Benteke in 2024.

  • old stadium; tired team

    by Mother1313 on 3/30/16RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

Okay, people probably already know that RFK Stadium is old. But there was little pleasant about our visit. Our seats, in the first row of the 200 level, were horrible. There was a post blocking a portion of the field, and the seats weren't high enough for any perspective. The DC United team played for about 10 minutes of the game; I'm not sure what they were doing the rest of the time -- but it was not impressive. The best part was during half time when our kids went down to the fan zone -- they had fun kicking a ball around with other kids. However, I'm not sure that that's a good reason to come to the game.

  • dc united vs fc dallas

Game was great. Wasnt the win i had hoped for. The stadium is falling apart. Fans were nice. Even when they found out i wasnt a united fan.

  • Great seats at DC United!

by Anonymous on 3/24/16RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I prefer RFK over FedEx because the view is much better anywhere!

  • by Tin54 on 3/23/16RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the game. The weather was a bit cold but I wasn't bothered by it. Sure, I would have preferred a win , but I'll take a tie over a loss anytime.

  • No mixed drinks available

by Lallo on 3/4/16RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

This was an event that wasn't well organized !!!! Few food vendors, no Corona beer available, no mixed drinks available. The game was ok.

  • Overpriced

by RealFootballFan on 11/4/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

While the game was ok, I believe that the tickets were a bit overpriced even though they were significantly less than the tickets for other sports like basketball etc. In order to get more people to attend these games, the tickets should be more appropriately priced.

  • Fun with dc united

by Kissfanforyearsandyears on 11/4/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great time. Easy to get too. Easy parking. Fun atmosphere. Kids had great time. Great food and beer options.

  • DC United loss

by Belgaboy on 11/4/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The first half was tight and DC got to a quick start. Unfortunately, the team looked tired after the break, due to a tough mid-week game under the rain. New York looked sharper and dominated ball possession. It exposed DC United main weakness, the lack of creative midfielders and of a true play-maker capable of delivering goal opportunities for the forwards. DC United is play-off team, but not a championship team.

  • The stands were bouncing

    by Kimberly62 on 10/21/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

After a slow start, a flood of United goals made for an enjoyable afternoon at RFK..It was a fantastic atmosphere - playoffs already clinched and fireworks for each goal scored (4!) and after the game. Crowd of over 20,000 was engaged - some late arrivals due to Metro Weekend SINGLE TRACK Woes - at least WMATA didn't close Stadium Armory on game day again. As usual, the team appreciated the support with a nice Thank You Fans banner post game.

In RFK somehow the restrooms are acceptably clean. Which in itself, for an old stadium is an achievement. The food service is awful. Long lines before the match, even longer at mid game stoppage. The food is extremely over-priced and low quality, and servers are slow.

  • A very close game

by Belgaboy on 9/22/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The game was entertaining, with a lot of scoring chances on both sides. Columbus was superior tactically and in collective technique. They moved the ball very well, particularly in midfield. DC United relied too much on long balls to be effective upfront, although they pushed more forward in the second half and had a couple of chances to tie the game at the end.

Another great game by DC United! This was a much more physical game and there was plenty of action on the field.

  • AWFUL

    by beachluvr62 on 8/25/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

This event was the worst. the fans were rude and the staff was unprofessional. Everyone in front of us stood up the entire game, forcing us to move to another section. The food was disgusting , even for stadium food. I will NEVER go to another DC United game.

  • Be Careful Where You Sit

    by BoltsFan90 on 8/25/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

First, I enjoy watching quality soccer and have become a fan of the D.C. United team and crazy fans. However, I must share my observations with those that have never attended a D.C. United home game at RFK stadium. I have learned the D.C. United fans throw their beer into the air when their team scores a goal. Every other stadium I have visited would escort you to the gate if you threw your beer, but the RFK staff considers this a "tradition." I guess they are interested in selling more beer as well. So, if you don't want to smell like beer on the way home, or if you are bringing kids to the game, I recommend you sit anywhere on the non-supporter side of the field or in the 300 sections of the supporter side. If you have seats in the 100s or 200s on the supporter side you will stand during play and run the risk of getting wet.

  • Decent but that's about it.

by FootballPilgrim on 8/25/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The game was rather boring. The very electric pre-game atmosphere only barely made up for the rather dull in-game atmosphere. I thought the crowd was very unenthusiastic but I wouldn't blame them after such a ludicrous display from the home side. Parking fee was a bit steep but refreshments were decent. Overall, it was an okay experience. Nothing I'd recommend strongly but worth the $60 if you have nothing better to do.

  • Lots of GOALS!!!!!!!!!!!

    by Rich5555 on 8/9/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Getting into stadium was easier than going to Nationals or Wizards (the worst) games. Good seats at reasonable prices.

  • Seriously... 10 goals during this game! WOW!

    by Dude6330 on 8/4/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first pro soccer event. Honestly I'm a complete newb when in comes to soccer in general. Going to this game was a bit of a whim, something for me, my wife, and my 17 year old son to go do on a Saturday. None of us were disappointed. RFK stadium is a bit worse for wear, but getting there was super easy and the facilities were absolutely adequate for the number of people in attendance. The game itself was a lot of fun to watch, continual action from both teams. Did I mention that 10 goals were scored in the game? Yes, 10! I think I'm spoiled now when it comes to action packed pro soccer. We all had a great time.

  • Absolutely amazing

by KennySmif on 8/4/15RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

We've never had seats behind the goal before, but it turned out that our seats were excellent! We could see everything and had a great time at a competitive match with plenty of scoring! Would/Will definitely purchase more tickets to more DC United matches!
