D.C. United History

D.C. United dominated the early days of MLS. They appeared in the league’s first four championship games, winning three of them, and added a fourth title in 2004, all before the league was even a decade old. Between 1997 and 2007, the United earned four Supporters’ Shields for best regular season record and claimed three U.S. Open Cup trophies in 1996, 2008 and 2013.

The United’s alumni include a league-best four MVP recipients: Marco Etcheverry in 1998, Christian Gomez in 2006, Luciano Emilio in 2007 and Dwayne De Rosario in 2011. Emilio and Rosario became the first two of three D.C. Golden Boot recipients in 2007 and 2011, respectively, followed by Christian Benteke in 2024.

DC United home matches are always soo much fun. It's great to be around other fans there live versus watching it from a monitor or tv. The people are always friendly (home team fans) and the fans seem to have more energy than the players sometimes. RFK is a nice venue. It could use some renovations, but I'm glad we have an easy location to get to and it's very easy to get around.

Great atmosphere!!! Can't wait to see them play again in a mew stadium.

  • DC United game

by Pattyneid on 9/25/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Loved everything about the game. The stadium, location, the game itself, of course was amazing. The stadium is very old, comparing to the fedex field, but it is not an issue at all. The price for the tickets were really good, especially for the location, very close to the field.

  • DC is a winner

This was my family's first game at RFK and it was awesome. Being in the crowd is a great time and the fans are awesome. There isn't a bad seat in the stadium either. I plan to be back soon.

  • New DC United Fan

My fiance and I are from Houston, TX and are in love with DC. This was our first MLS soccer game and it was a blast. The crowd was energetic and fun. We are now DC United fans and will probably seek season tickets once we move up to DC.

  • Great game.

Had a great time with two of my sons. It was a great game with a great crowd.

Great game, not a lot of vendor options for the kids though, would have been nice to pick something up to remember the experience.

  • Solid gamesmanship

by harperpb on 8/24/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

What a game! From the eighteenth minute goal to the fourth in the second half, DC United showed spirit and fight to overcome the Chicago Fire. I could have wished they hadn't given up two goals in the process, but the result they took home compensated for those.

DC United players were great, even seeing how philly played a dirty game. The Ref's didn't help with all the bad calls.

The stadium is great! We thoroughly enjoyed the game. If you go to this stadium, keep your tickets with you because they check them when you come back from the bathroom, concessions, etc. The refs made some really bad calls, but it was still a great game.

  • RFK

by RMSaunder on 8/21/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

The parking was good although the seats were blocked by player bench shelters. No rain the entire game. We asked the staff they would take them down @ half and was laughed at. Sad state of affairs if you pay top dollar for low row and your view is blocked? The food was over-priced and the beer should of been on special due to the obstructed view.

  • Great game

by Dtyfrst on 8/21/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Parking at the game was very convenient and reasonably priced. I had not received my Family Fun Pack vouchers with my tickets but Customer Service quickly provided me with the vouchers. The lines at the concession stands were not long at all. Traffic was well controlled when departing the stadium. The stadium is old and run-down but they have done a good job trying to convert it to a soccer-only venue. The stadium announcer could have done a better job announcing fouls and why the 2 goals were disallowed. Our seats were very close to the field and we had an excellent view of our side of the field. However, our view of the far side was obscured by the team benches and we were forced to look at the video screen when play was at the far end. I would have to get seats higher up or on the other side of the stadium. It was a fun event and I would recommend it to others.

  • Rfk needs some refurb

    by Bub1998 on 8/21/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The event was good but the facilities were lacking.

  • Game was great, seats were ok at best

    by Jonathan56465453143483534 on 8/6/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

The game was great, the seats were too close to the field and the view was blocked by the players bench and the tv cameras, I would definelty sit atleast 10 rows back next time.

Great seats, great game. RFK is a little dated, but atmosphere was amazing.

  • DC United vs. Columbus Crew

    by Mleo77 on 8/6/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Was an awsome game my sons first time at any professional sporting event. He had a wonderful time and a special memory watching Chris Pontius score the only goal.

  • poor management

by Anonymous on 7/30/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

We purchased tickets for my husband and my son's birthday gifts for the Juventus game. I understand they cancelled, but to switch the game time, was ridiculous. We traveled 3 hours to get there to see the warm ups at 5:00, but weren't allowed in until 6:30 because they changes the game time from 6:00 until 7:30 , but didn't notify people that had already bought tickets! No one we spoke to there would even apologized. We got a repeated " it isn't my fault talk to...office". Extremely poor public relations! We were not the only ones this happened to. They could have at least made arrangements to let people in.

  • by Nicole1988 on 7/30/12RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

We loved the seats and had fun at the game, like we always do when we go to a DC game.

  • DC United vs. Paris Saint-Germain

Game was ok -- would have liked to have been told why Paris Saint Germain was substituted for the italians. Stadium is run down
