D.C. United History

D.C. United dominated the early days of MLS. They appeared in the league’s first four championship games, winning three of them, and added a fourth title in 2004, all before the league was even a decade old. Between 1997 and 2007, the United earned four Supporters’ Shields for best regular season record and claimed three U.S. Open Cup trophies in 1996, 2008 and 2013.

The United’s alumni include a league-best four MVP recipients: Marco Etcheverry in 1998, Christian Gomez in 2006, Luciano Emilio in 2007 and Dwayne De Rosario in 2011. Emilio and Rosario became the first two of three D.C. Golden Boot recipients in 2007 and 2011, respectively, followed by Christian Benteke in 2024.

  • DC United?

by GrandadGrandson on 5/27/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

My 8 yr old grandson thought the reason the team played so poorly was "they don't play like a team." Their performance was pathetic. This was not a team to make Etcheverry, Moreno, Pope, Sanneh or even Olsen proud. The stadium facilities and the food/drink stands are awful. On the home side you have stand the entire match and grandson had to stand on his seat, the entire time. Grandson reaction? Well, we don't have to come back here again. I told him maybe we'll try the Washington Spirit's games in Germantown.

The team didn't play especially well that day but the experience was great. The fans are amazing and it was a great day out in DC! If you're a fan of soccer (casual or otherwise) you'd really enjoy it.

  • Great game

Game was enjoyable. My son and I had fun. The parking is convenient and the concessions were sufficient. Crowd was well behaved.

Was a great game. Would have been better if we would have scored at least 1 goal!

  • Soccer is too expensive

by Drorez on 4/15/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

I love the game, but $50 for good seats is just too much.... 10 dollar beers? Come on!

  • Great Seats, Good Game, Loads of fun

Had a great time at the game. The seats were fantastic and very easy to secure on ticket master. Look forward to more.

  • Opening Day

by Josieyxxxx on 4/7/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Great game. Weather was a little chilly but the fans kept the temp up! Lots of chants throighout the game. Great plays. Looking forward to another good season.

  • Good first game

by CharlesandCarlos on 3/27/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

This was my first DC United and MLS game, so I was not sure what to expect. The atmosphere was nice. The game was reasonably exciting but no OMG moments. I will like to take my son again in the future, although the choice in seating will be examined closer. My eight year old son could not see though the backs of the standing fans.

needs to fix up the stadium and have more food carts

  • Fun times at DC United!

by SnowDragon on 3/25/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

We kicked off the day with an excellent tailgate in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium. After packing up the tailgate, we entered the stadium with ease, and enjoyed the game from our seats. Other than the game beginning a little late, it was well organized and super fun!

  • Great Day for Soccer

    by alphaman85 on 3/25/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Man! Great day for soccer, unfortunately not for winning. Columbus was hungry. They attacked DC and keep pressure on DC's goal for most of the game. Refs were horrible, blind, inconsistent, etc! No surprise there. What's up? Nobody sits at soccer games there days? :o) Otherwise, great outing.

Awful experience . Never again. I think I am better spending my money watching the Nationals

  • Fantastic

Fantastic seating, awesome crowd, exhilerating game; I have no complaints at all.

We had a great time. First soccer game for the kids. Wish DC had won the game but still a lot of fun. We will go again.

  • It's COLD under the overhang!

by WildcardCIS on 3/25/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Our seats were very close to the midfield stripe, and the view was fine. The problem was that the seats were way, way back under the overhang, and they were totally in the shade and the wind was blowing through the area the whole time. Even though the temperature was in the low 50's, we were VERY COLD in these seats, and we would have wished for woolly hats, gloves, ski masks, etc.! (If it had been raining, at least we would have been dry.) The soccer game started out slowly and I wondered if the play was going to be much better than the college level. Quality picked up after 10-15 minutes, and the biggest complaint after that was the officiating.

  • by Charity1725 on 3/25/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

DC U always puts on a good show. The seats were close to a great fan section but a little too low for soccer viewing. Great if you want to be close to the action and excellent for goal watching. But you miss that bird's eye view that makes it possible to see formations

Excellent sporting event , took my daughter and her best friend.

  • Best Atmosphere this side of the Mississippi

by ElReyAlfonsoX on 3/11/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Great pregame tailgate in lot 8. Plenty of booze and good food. The food trucks weren't bad either. There really aren't any bad seats, but everyone should stand with the Screaming Eagles, Barra Brava, District Ultras or La Norte at least once. If you have small kids, then the opposite (southwestern side of the stadium is probably better for you). Little kids will enjoy the games near the tailgate area and inside the stadium in the VW lounge. Definitely a must go event if you're in the D.C. area.

  • DC United Season Opener

by Anonymous on 3/11/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The seating chart that was displayed on ticketmaster was not very accurate to the actual stadium. Other than that the game was fantastic.
