D.C. United History

D.C. United dominated the early days of MLS. They appeared in the league’s first four championship games, winning three of them, and added a fourth title in 2004, all before the league was even a decade old. Between 1997 and 2007, the United earned four Supporters’ Shields for best regular season record and claimed three U.S. Open Cup trophies in 1996, 2008 and 2013.

The United’s alumni include a league-best four MVP recipients: Marco Etcheverry in 1998, Christian Gomez in 2006, Luciano Emilio in 2007 and Dwayne De Rosario in 2011. Emilio and Rosario became the first two of three D.C. Golden Boot recipients in 2007 and 2011, respectively, followed by Christian Benteke in 2024.

  • Great DC United win at home!

by TheLastChello on 4/29/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I decided to come out and support my local team for the first time this season along with my father. Not only the game was great given we won but also the DC United staff was extremely helpful on helping my father get around considering he's still healing from his latest surgery.

The game was well worth it. Easy to get to, and enjoyable.

  • Awesome Effort By United Side!

by BRWJR on 4/29/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Best game I have ever seen DC United play - Great Team Effort - Fantastic/Rowdy Crowd Support - Great Evening at RFK (Only wishing the $20 Parking Fee was lower, maybe $10).

  • Vamos United

The game was a lot of fun. The seats we had were good and we saw 4 goals right in front of us. And our seats were right under the overhang so when it started to rain we didn't get wet. It was a great game.

I love soccer, DC United is our team and though RFK is a little old, the event was a blast. Any live sporting event is going to be fun, and the free beer with purchase of the ticket was an added bonus. It started to rain during the second half but it was still a great game. We won 4-1. Can't get better than that!

  • Dc vs NY was really fun

  • DC United ....GOOOOOAAAAAL!

    by T22Colt on 4/1/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

It was our first game (other than hometown Columbus Crew) in our quest to see every MLS stadium. Great stadium, easy to reach off the metro. Food was comparably priced. The stadium shop was fantastic, lots of deals, and a recycled bag with every purchase (we found that cool). The DC United staff was friendly and helpful! It was aheavy downpour and the staff had designated areas where you could sit and watch the game rain-free. And did we mention we saw the first goal of the season!!! Cool place, would recommend a stop to see it!

I am not sure if this survey should reflect the ticket purchase, the event or everything at the event so here is everything. Buying the tickets was easy, however I have never been forced to use "will call" before and have always printed tickets beforehand...the lines for concessions were extremely long and the vendors un-organized all together, the stadium was partially empty, so the need to buy tickets for sections further from the field was not necessary, not sure what constitutes "available" but there were plenty available closer to the field that did not show up on line as such...also the opener package stated purchasers received DC United caps, never saw them and they were never offered, in short...we go every year..but I am seriously re-thinking it for next year....

  • DC Uniteddddddd

    by Spaceghost3 on 3/12/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

I love soccer, so I have no compaints about attending the game. My seats were in a great location. My only problem was how anemic my team(DC United) was. Hopefully, the next home game will have better results. Overall, I would definitely recommend.

  • Awful Experience

    by StuckInLine214 on 3/11/14RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

Knew it was trouble when we got to RFK and it was $20 to park, not the $15 DCU had advertised. Stadium is still as old and drab as ever. No effort has been made to spruce it up. Biggest issue was concessions. No stand seemed prepared and many seemed to run low on food by halftime. At the pupusa stand, what is usually a 5-minute wait took 52, and we basically missed the whole second half. And the team is still bad. Very high ticket prices for what were good seats but no entertainment value whatsoever. Very unlikely to return.

Took my daughter, a college soccer player, to see DC United for her Birthday. We had a blast! The fans are awesome!!! The stadium needs to be updated, but the pitch was great. Too bad they lost, but we will be back for more! Excellent time was had by all!!

  • To loud!

by CoastieJeff on 10/30/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

Pre-game: We arrived an hour early to watch warm ups and get into the environment only to be BLASTED with the loudest and longest advertisements for the complete pre-game. My daughter and I stuffed paper towels in our ears to try and cut the noise but eventually just started walking around to try and find a quiet place. By the time the game actually started our heads where hurting. 1) The volume of the speakers was overwhelming. 2) The amount of advertising one after another after another was just annoying. If it was just music playing then we could deal with it. As it is, if we come to another game we will make sure to arrive at game time and not a second before. The game: We just moved to the area and have not attended a professional soccer game before. We have attended many club and college games and tournaments. I am not sure if it was because of the time of the season, but both teams seemed tired, lazy and unenthused. The first 10 min was a kick ball match. Later in the second half both teams began to play harder and it became fun. I hope to attend games next year but will not arrive until the game is about to start, that is for sure! I was impressed that a representative took the time to call me personally prior to the game to just ask if I needed anything. Very nice touch.

First time to a MLS game. Loved it!! DCU is better than their scorecard reflects this year.

  • Enjoyable event

by Dtyfrst on 10/15/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

My son and I enjoyed the match despite the lousy weather. The parking was convenient and it was easy to get out of the lot after the match. Fortunately our seats were under cover, otherwise we would have gotten very wet

  • In the zone!

by VWsuperfan on 10/9/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

My son and I were selected by Volkswagen to receive the VW Fan Zone VIP upgrade. The game was unforgettable, we sat at field level just to the side of the goal. Can't wait to go back and take my dad with us!

  • by Anonymous on 10/7/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

My 5 year old son loves soccer and this was his first time watching professionals played live. His comments after the game was "Can i come here everyday mom?"

  • by Anonymous on 10/4/13RFK Stadium - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5
