About

With her multi-colored hair, eccentric fashion, and string of decade-defining hits, Cyndi Lauper has become synonymous with ‘80s pop. Her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual was an overnight success – her bubblegum-meets-punk aesthetic resonated with the nascent MTV generation, making her a new wave icon and earning her a Grammy in 1985 for Best New Artist. A talented singer with a mercurial voice, Lauper showed off her impressive range with the 2010 release of Memphis Blues, which remained at No. 1 on the Blues Albums Chart for an impressive 14 weeks and received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. Born and raised in Queens, Lauper began writing songs at age 12, inspired by legendary jazz vocalists like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. After playing in various cover and new wave bands in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, she became an instant critical and commercial success with her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual. The album produced four Top 5 hits, setting a record for an album debut by a female artist, and included perennial ‘80s anthems “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” On tour in 2013, Lauper impressed ticket buyers with her powerful voice and energetic live concerts, performing her greatest hits along with the entirety of the She’s So Unusual record.

    Cyndi Still Has It

by gilberto1963 on 11/5/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Most of the musicians I follow are from the 80s. As you might know, the 80s have been over for a few decades now. That being the case, many of the singers of that era are no longer in their best vocal form. Such is not the case with Cyndi Lauper. I'm not musically trained, but as far as I can tell, she's lost nothing of her range, projection, and amazing breath control. Add to that the number of excellent songs in her catalog, as well as the fact that she is still making new music, and you have all the makings of a fantastic show. Icing on the cake was the way Lauper quieted the audience that was about to lynch a drunken heckler. She then went on to handle him herself. The guy shut up! He was bitching about the fact that Lauper was talking to the audience and giving background info on the songs. It's another great part of the show. Cyndi Lauper still knows how to connect with an audience.

A show Not to be missed.

by rubytues on 10/24/16Beacon - ny

We've been going to these shows since the very beginning and not missed one. The shows are Fantastic!!! We buy our tickets on the blind, we already have our tickets for this year. We've never been disappointed. Cyndi Lauper does an excellent job to raising money for the LGBT homeless youth and this Charity Event 'Home For The Holidays' is Tops. Get your tickets right away, they sell out fast.

First Time I Left a Concert Early

by Anonymous on 10/13/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

We were expecting a fun night out with lots of singing along and dancing...we got a lot of country music and ballads, a late start, left the stage within an hour to come back with more ballads before we finally left. Very disappointed.

I went to the show knowing Cyndi from the 80's pop hits, and walked out a major fan. Loved the country tunes the stories Cyndi shared. Cyndi is an amazing entertainer and her vocal range is phenomenal - AND, wow, major energy! Came home and bought a bunch of her albums and have been listening to Detour since the show - cant wait till she tours again!!!!!

    She Handled The Heckler

by SHALVO on 10/13/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Amazing concert! Cyndi performed country songs from her new album and also performed all her hits. The band and backup singer were top notch. When some drunk shouted "shut up and sing" while Cyndi told a story to the audience....she handled him in a way that produced cheers from her real fans. It was a great concert...very memorable.

    poor value

by Gamgee61 on 10/12/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

on stage for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, which included several lengthy 'life stories', so not much music for $75 each ticket. Played the hits, but could have got that off the radio.

Should have advertised as a country music concert

by MiracleMitch on 10/12/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Cindy looks great and she speaks so warm and intimate to the audience but I am not a country music fan and 90+% of what she played in Scottsdale, AZ was Country Music - I was bored and also not appreciative of her political statements

Cyndi Lauper's Detour is a Must Go concert!

by bkdgu on 10/11/16Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Charlie Musselwhite was the opening act and was great with his bluesy sound. Cyndi then came out with her band and played an incredible mix of her return to her roots solid 60s - 70s rockabilly covers from the likes of Wanda Jackson followed by her classics like She-Pop. Intertwining country, rockabilly, Americana, and pop flawlessly. She played Ray Price, Patsy Cline, and even Prince covers along the way mixed with hits like Money Changes Everything. Her two encores were wonderful with her first 4 song encore ending with Time After Time and Girls Just Want to Have Fun and the spectacular second encore with Cyndi coming out alone on the stage with an autoharp and playing 2 songs including the final song True Colors which was the show stopper. She played almost two hours and both she and the audience had a love fest. Don't miss this if it comes close to your town.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER in SANTA BARABARA.

by SebastianC on 10/10/16Arlington Theatre - Santa Barabara

I SYMPATHIZE WITH THAT REVIEW OF THE WOMAN AT SANTA BARBARA THAT THE MEET AND GREET WAS DISAPPOINTING, CYNDI WAS 2 HOURS LATE, WHY SEND US AN EMAIL TO BE THERE AT 3.30PM, A RIDICULOUS TIME FOR A MEET AND GREET, USUALLY THEY ARE AT 5PM OR LATER, AND IF IT'S KNOWN THAT SHE IS ALWAYS LATE, WHY THEY DIDN'T SCHEDULE IT LATER, AT 5.30PM FOR EXAMPLE, THE TIME SHE ARRIVED, THE ASSISTANTS OF HER WERE KIND, APOLOGIZING FOR HER BEING LATE, WHEN SHE ARRIVED SHE SHOULD HAVE SAID AT LEAST " THANK YOU FOR THE WAITING" OR " SORRY, I AM LATE", WHEN IT WAS TIME TO TAKE US THE PHOTO, THEY ASKED US TO HURRY, THE WOMAN TAKING THE PHOTOS WAS AN AMATEUR, TAKING THE PHOTOS WITH A BAD ANGLE FROM ABOVE OF HER HEAD DOWNWARDS. 3 YEARS AGO AT HER MEET AND GREET IN LOS ANGELES, CYNDI WAS VERY KIND AND GREET EVERY PERSON SMILING WITH HAPPINESS, THIS TIME WAS AS A SISTER OF CYNDI WAS REPLACING HER, A DIFFERENT PERSON, THE TOTAL TIME WAS 5 MINUTES TO TAKE ALL THE PICTURES OF THE PEOPLE THAT WERE PRESENT AND INCLUDING THE GROUP PHOTO, WHICH EVERYBODY SEEMS TO BE HAPPY BUT BEFORE SOME PEOPLE COMPLAINED THAT SHE WASN'T SIGNING ANYTHING, WHICH IT DOESN'T MATTER TO ME, BUT FOR OTHER FANS WAS FRUSTRATING. SOME PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE SHE HAS TO TRAVEL A LOT, PERFORM SEVERAL NIGHTS A WEEK AND THIS COULD BE VERY TIRESOME, ALSO DO THE MEET AND GREET, BUT AS I ALWAYS SAY, IF IT'S TOO MUCH WEIGHT FOR THE ARTIST, SIMPLE, DON'T OFFER IT. I REGRET THAT I HAD TO DRIVE FROM LOS ANGELES TO SANTA BARBARA TO BE EARLY FOR A DELAYED "MEET AND GREET". THE SOUND WAS EXCELLENT, HER PERFORMANCE WAS IMPECCABLE, SOME PEOPLE COMPLAINED THAT SHE SANG A LOT OF HER NEW COUNTRY MATERIAL, THE COVER OF THE SONG FUNNEL OF LOVE IS VERY GOOD AND OTHERS WERE NICE, SHE ALSO SANG SOME OF HER CLASSICS, I LIKED A LOT "SHE BOP", " MONEY CHANGES EVERYTHING", " I DROVE ALL NIGHT", "WHEN YOU WERE MINE" AND "TIME AFTER TIME". OTHER COMMON COMPLAINS THAT I SAW IN THE REVIEWS WERE THAT SHE TALKED A LOT AND IT SEEMS TO BE THAT SHE DID THE SAME IN EVERY SHOW, I DIDN’T CARE BECAUSE HER MESSAGES WERE POSITIVE AND SOME ANECDOTES WERE FUNNY. I LIKED WHEN SHE REPLIED TO ONE OF THE FANS " I LOVE YOU TOO, BUT NOT IN A PERSONAL WAY, YOU DON'T KNOW ME, ONE THING IS THE MUSIC AND OTHER THE PERSON", THIS HAPPENED ALSO AT THE GREEK THEATER. THE ARLINGTON THEATER IS PICTURESQUE, REALLY NICE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE WALLS WERE AS IF THEY WERE THE FRONTS OF OLD SPANISH BUILDINGS, THE BAD SIDE IT’S THAT I DON’T KNOW IF IT DOESN'T HAVE AC OR THEY FORGOT TO TURN IT ON, IT FELT LIKE BEING INSIDE A SAUNA. WHY THE 3 STARS, BECAUSE IT WAS DISAPPOINTING TO TAKE A WHOLE DAY EXCLUSIVELY TO TRAVEL TO SANTA BARBARA TO BE EARLY FOR A NOT SO GOOD MEET AND GREET EXPERIENCE. DESPITE OF WHAT HAPPENED, FOR ME CYNDI LAUPER IS THE BEST FEMALE SINGER.

Bad venue, bad sound, boring set.

by mmedusa on 10/10/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

I love Cyndi, she's seriously a fantastic human that does a lot of incredible things but this show was not one of them. I blame the venue mostly which had an atmosphere of a senior center banquet room or corporate gig award ceremony. The sound was so muted I could've carried on an entire conversation with a normal speaking voice and been heard. She's doing country covers now which, while I get their influence on her, are just covers and totally underwhelming. She did six songs before encodring (talked for about 45-50 minutes of the show) then did four or five of her hits in the encore which at that point was lackluster. She had lost the crowd. It was seriously one of the most boring shows I've ever been to, the momentum was lost in tangent filled stories and cover songs.

Cyndi was great the sound not so much.

by bodyguy1 on 10/10/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

I was in the 3d row center you would think I would have been able to hear. The speakers were pointing away to the left and right sections. i couldn't hear her stories because people just couldn't shut up. Little speakers pointed out on stage would have been great. I was up against the stage in boston in 1983 there the sound was too loud. Will always love Cyndi though.

    Great Show

by ManfredMoore on 10/10/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Although she did only one or two of her past hits, her new stuff rocks. She told the crowd about her new recording and how she choose them. She is full of energy and it shows during her performance. Everyone in her band performs with the same high energy and talent as Cyndi.

    The AWAYS Amazing Cyndi Lauper...

by Worldtraveling2 on 10/10/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

From beginning to end this show was perfect! Cyndi Lauper brought an unforgettable level of energy and excitement to the stage. Her movement into the Country Western element was enjoyable and definitely up to her normal style of expertise. What a great show, and her dedication to her fans if astounding. My husband and I have seen her in concert 12 times over two decades in a variety of venues across the country. Her voice and performance are still perfect.

Cyndi's show was disappointing, at best!!

by elmosmom on 10/10/16Talking Stick Resort - Scottsdale

Cyndi's voice is still excellent, but her show at Talking Stick Resort was quite disappointing. From the DJ prior to the show to the format of Lauper's concert and the band. Mainly, Cyndi spent entirely too much time talking and not enough time singing her oldies; and she was heckled by the crowd ("Shut up and sing!"). Most touring artists who have a new album do material from the new album--some of which is fine, but Cyndi didn't really get into the old standards the way we had hoped. Instead, they were kind of thrown in as an obligation to her fans of 30 years. I will not attend another Cyndi Lauper concert.
