About

With her multi-colored hair, eccentric fashion, and string of decade-defining hits, Cyndi Lauper has become synonymous with ‘80s pop. Her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual was an overnight success – her bubblegum-meets-punk aesthetic resonated with the nascent MTV generation, making her a new wave icon and earning her a Grammy in 1985 for Best New Artist. A talented singer with a mercurial voice, Lauper showed off her impressive range with the 2010 release of Memphis Blues, which remained at No. 1 on the Blues Albums Chart for an impressive 14 weeks and received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. Born and raised in Queens, Lauper began writing songs at age 12, inspired by legendary jazz vocalists like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. After playing in various cover and new wave bands in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, she became an instant critical and commercial success with her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual. The album produced four Top 5 hits, setting a record for an album debut by a female artist, and included perennial ‘80s anthems “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” On tour in 2013, Lauper impressed ticket buyers with her powerful voice and energetic live concerts, performing her greatest hits along with the entirety of the She’s So Unusual record.

The performers were all terrific, as was the dancing, the singing, the giant screen with the lights and colors, and Whoppi Goldberg was wonderful.

    A Misrepresented Show

by Stymie2252 on 12/12/17Beacon Theatre - New York

So much for seeing Cyndi Lauper and Jackson Browne put on a show. Instead it was a sad take off on America's Got Talent except there were no buzzers to get them off the stage. Never ever again.

    Amazing night

by ERJH on 12/6/16Beacon Theatre - New York

The talented performers were wonderful but the star of the night was truly the passion that everyone ha for helping these kids. Hearing the heartfelt stories and seeing so many people (myself included) spontaneously get up to bring money to the stage was so heartwarming. Cyndi's passion and commitment is inspiring. We will be back!

    A great cause!

by mt80s1 on 12/6/16Beacon Theatre - New York

Cyndi Lauper is an incredibly talented musician with a great big heart. I attend the show every year to support the cause, which is to end LGBTQ youth homelessness and to provide care and support. Every year, she rallies her friends to perform and to speak up for the cause. The performances are powerful and fun. It's always a good time but more than that, it helps fund a safe space for our LGBTQ youth. Amazing performances for an amazing cause.

    Worst Ever

by mlake67 on 12/6/16Beacon Theatre - New York

I guess I should have read the details better, I bought 4 tickets as a birthday present for my sister and invite some friends. I was under the impression that being called Home for the holidays in someway implied a Holiday Teamed night. I had no problem with the fact that the show was a fundraiser. I did however have issue with the very depressing music ete. we saw numerous people leave within the first 10 minutes but we held out hope that with every song/performer the event would improve ( It didn't) the show started at 8.20 and finally at 10.20pm we gave up and left the theater. I suggest that next year its more clearly explained on the event page that this is NOT a holiday show or anything close to it.

    Never a boring moment

by jonjon68 on 12/6/16Beacon Theatre - New York

This concert was the fifth I have attended. I cannot believe how each year it gets better and better. Cyndi is such a kind and talented performer. She really has a heart for her fans and she was and is instrumental in her support for the LGBT community. Raising money for the True Colors Fund to aid homeless LGBT youth is obviously near and dear to her heart. She always books the most amazing known and not so well known talents for this show. In particular this year was Mary Lambert. Loved her segment. Very talented young lady. I make this a show that I attend year after year. The Beacon Theatre is an awesome venue to see a show also.
