Cyndi is the consummate artist.
by BoyWhoJustWantsToHaveFun on 8/17/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5Cyndi is a vivacious alternative pixie with an effervescent spirit, superior showmanship, inspired song writing skills, formidable musicianship, and EXTRAORDINARY vocals. In my view, she's one of the most underrated artists of our time. I've seen Mick Jagger and Tina Turner live -- and Cyndi is BETTER!
Last night's concert was amazing, as always! I especially enjoyed her renditions of "Goonies R Good Enough," "Money Changes Everything," and "True Colors." Also, "At Last" was beautiful and really showcased her vocals. At times, Cyndi ran up and down the aisles, climbed on chairs, and admonished the security guard that fans are allowed to approach her.
Suggestions/Criticisms:
I would have liked to hear a few acoustic songs. Also, I could have done without the two Blue Angels songs and the Joni Mitchell "silver" song -- especially since those slots could have been filled by fantastic songs from Cyndi's solo career (e.g., "Shine," "Grab a Hold," "That's What I Think," "Insecurious," "A Night to Remember," "Dancing with a Stranger," "I Don't Want to Be Your Friend," "Heading West," etc.). Cyndi should have prefaced "True Colors" with a brief statement about equal rights -- or at least a comment about how the song honors her friend "Blue," a man who is no longer with us.
re. the venue:
BergenPAC is an intimate space (which is ideal for concerts). However, it was too warm; the air conditioning was insufficient.
re. volume:
As with most concerts, the volume should have been turned down a few notches.
