About

Cyndi Lauper is a pop singer and activist from Queens, New York. Upon the release of her 1983 debut album, She’s So Unusual, Lauper became a pop sensation, thanks to the success of Top 5 singles including “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “Time After Time,” “She Bop” and “All Through the Night.” Lauper also won Best New Artist at the 1985 Grammys. Her second and third albums, True Colors (1986) and A Night to Remember (1989), added more hit singles like “True Colors” and “I Drove All Night” to her oeuvre and by the end the decade, Lauper had become synonymous with the ’80s new wave movement and synthpop sound. In addition to her twelve solo albums, Lauper also wrote the music and lyrics for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots, for which she became the first solo woman to ever win the Tony for Best Original Score. In the fall of 2024, the singer embarked on her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour in conjunction with her documentary film LET THE CANARY SING.

  • Cyndi Lauper

by Debbyd on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Standing for 2 and a half hours until Cyndi came on and then another hour and a half was absolutely too much. I am sure the younger kids didn't mind it, but the older crowd did. The best thing was that we got to take pictures and videos!!!!!!! When Cyndi came on, I did forget about how bad my feet and legs hurt. She is just amazing. She has a fabulous voice!!! She is a wonderful person. She jumps around the stage just as much as when she was younger. I love to hear her talk to the people, as well as sing. She was having just as much fun as we were. JUST LOVE HER!! Fantastic Show!

  • Wonderful show, once it started.

by AnnalisaBradford on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was absolutely amazing, and I had an awesome time. Cyndi is a stellar performer, with a beautiful, strong voice and a captivating stage presence. She began the show with some of her newer blues material, and I was very pleasantly surprised by how well her vocal range and style work with this genre. It was also highly appropriate for the venue (House of Blues, of course). Everything from her body language to the way she interacted with her band showed how much passion she has for this genre, and she brought the audience right into it. But the house really came alive once she performed a few of her classic hits, and the energy kept building right through the end of the show. However, the wait time between the opening act and Cyndi seemed to drag on longer than usual. I understand this was the very beginning of her tour, so there may have been some final logistical kinks to work out, or a simple technical problem. Or she could have just been teasing us, who knows? :) Bottom line: I highly recommend this show. Both her newer fans and those who've been with her since the '80s will have a chance to get their groove on, and if you've been ambivalent towards her since 1995, you'll leave this show highly impressed and wondering just what you've been missing.

  • she's unbelievable, amazing great time! !!!!

  • Cyndi was great

by deafchi on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi was great at the House of Blues. The only thing was that she spent most of her time on the other side of the stage. It was also disappointing that people had drinks on the stage and someone spilled their drink. Wonder if that is why she was not on our side of the stage as much. The singing and the energy was great. Cyndi's message of Power to the people is awesome. I will always go to a Cyndi Lauper concert.

  • Lady can sing the Blues, and more

by Ricster1 on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Overall a great show. Cyndi was supposed to be on at 7:45, but didn't start until about 8:30 which was kind of frustrating for those of us standing all that time. However, a true performer, Cyndi put on a great show. Her new blues album was the focus and after doing those songs, about 45 minutes she said good night and left the stage. We were a little shocked, but she came back on and did about another 45 minutes of the classics, Girls..., True Colors, etc.

  • Cyn Rocked The Blues

by Alejandro4eva on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen Ms. Lauper on many occasions, I've come to expect that each performance will be spectacular. And she did not disappoint! Performing at a venue like The House Of Blues is perfect for Cyndi and her fans. It's more intimate, allowing Lauper to interact with her band and her fans (as opposed to huge scale tours she's opened for, like Cher and Tina Turner). As usual Cyndi sounded fantastic and the mix of new tracks and older material was great. Her rousing rendition of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Change Of Heart" brought the crowd around and her closing number of "True Colors" was utterly emotive and heart-felt.

  • Cyndi Lauper -- say goodbye to the Blues

by DenHen on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

When I bought the tickets, I had no idea this was going to be a Blues show. I'm not a fan of the blues, but love Cyndi's music from back in the day and figured she would probably at some point, play the hits. Unfortunately, she only played 4 hit songs. That's it. The rest was Blues and all the songs sounded the same. She put the audience to sleep the whole time. In fact, when she walked off the stage for he first encore (so lame that encores are built in to a show), the crowd sat in silence. No cheering, stomping, or urging her back out of any kind. You could almost hear a pin drop. I have been to hundreds of concerts and never experienced anything like that. Needless to say, she sauntered back out after a brief absence and I think at that point, she did Girls Just Want To Have Fun. Of course, the place erupted. The fans were going nuts. It was awesome. She did a couple more Blues songs and a few more hits, and that was it. Lame. I was very disappointed. Basically, Cyndi Lauper fans do not want to hear her do the Blues and Blues fans don't want to hear Cyndi Lauper do the Blues. Who is her audience exactly? Not sure what's she's thinking, but I hope she drops this Blues stuff and gives fans what they want to hear.

  • Cyndi Rocked!

by NikkNakk on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi rocked! The Show was awesome. My friend and I had an awesome awesome time. As usual Cyndi's appearance was out of this world. Her style is so unpredictable, unique and amazing!

  • Cyndi gave a great performance :)

by TheGimcrack on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The opening act, such as it was, I didn't find all that impressive. My wife and I got the impression that Cyndi was doing the man a favor by allowing him to open for her. Cyndi's performance was great and her backing band top-notch. I particularly enjoyed the guitar player (whose name I'm afraid I can't recall). A great night at the House of Blues for sure! :)

  • Cyndi Lauper Shows 'True Colors'--Awesome!

by Joyous61 on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Cyndi Lauper showed her 'true colors' during her House of Blues Concert last night and the result was -- awesome! Eight of us ventured in from the western suburbs and all agreed unanimously. She is a natural talent and we were all so pleasantly surprised at how great she also sang the blues. We have been to many concerts where you can be disappointed by what you hear live -- not this one. The venue was up close and personal and her vocal range was exceptional. Also, the concert was well paced -- starting out with mostly blues and finishing with a few of her "traditional" favorites. Thank you for a spectacular performance and a great night out for all of us! Keep up the great work, Cyndi!

  • Not Into It

by Lynnorus on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

I have wanted to see Cyndi Lauper for 25 years. I went to see her Blues tour even though I'm not a fan of blues. She seemed like it was just her job that she was there and didn't connect with her audience what so ever. I'm glad I got to see her up close and personal however I think I put her up on such a high pedistal and this concert really pegged her down a few for me. Her voice is amazing though.

  • Cyndi Lauper killed it!!

by Quintesson on 6/27/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

First of all, I'm a long-time fan of Cyndi's music, but not so much a fan of blues music. I completely understood why she did this album, and she is one of the few people that could do something like this and turn out great. She sounds amazing live, and these songs that I didn't care for took on an entirely new dimension for me. She sang the songs from Memphis Blues the first have of the show. Then took a quick break, and busted out the hits! I know that sometimes people just want to see the artist do their hits (no talk, no new stuff!), but I think Cyndi recognizes that, and successfully delivered both.

  • These Girls had Fun!

by PatPatty on 10/22/09The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Fan-freaking-tastic show! Rosie's back in her comic groove and Cyndi is just a little force of nature. Loved every minute, thoroughly entertained and happy to have experienced their show.

  • Great!

by Leiby on 9/17/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 4 out of 5

I've been to 4 Cyndi concerts and would have to say this wasn't her best, but still a great show, well worth my money. It was absolutely adorable that she brought a few little girls on stage to dance to "Girls just want to have fun"!

  • Cyndi Lauper, Another Great Show!

by maxxiswiftfoot on 9/16/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 4 out of 5

Penn's Peak is a great venue for Cyndi Lauper. It is obvious that she enjoys the show there and spends a lot of time on the floor with the audience. She did her memorable hits along with some lesser known works but every song was performed with energy and a touch of nostalgia. She included that children which was great. We took our 7 year old and she had a good time singing along with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, She Bop, and the theme song from the Goonies. Altogether a worthwhile night out though the show did not compare to her Christmas Show at Penn's peak several years ago. This show was considerably shorter.

  • Cyndi Lauper still rocks!!!

by Nies on 8/25/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Love the energy...was amazed at the array of ages represented in the audience. Cyndi is an awesome performer who makes the audience feel engaged!!!!

  • Timeless & Rockin'

by TomCat913 on 8/23/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

An unforgettable musical treat. I'm so glad I decided to go...

  • Still entertaining!

by nellebart on 8/19/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first concert seeing Cyndi, and I am sorry that I waited so long to do so! She is still rockin' after all these years. Her stage presence was excellent, and she interacted with the audience many times throughout the show. She even brought some children up on stage for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". Her vocals are still strong as ever and her range still dynamic. The only drawback was that I thought the instruments were a bit too loud and drowned out Cyndi's voice at points. I would have loved to hear more of Cyndi's awesome vocals. Overall.....A GREAT SHOW!!

  • Cyndi Lauper - Larger than Life!!!!!

by MetalsMarketer on 8/19/09BERGEN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely amazing!!! I was blown away. Really. It was my husband that bought the tickets, not me. I was a fan but never realized the extent of her talent. WOW.

  • Cyndi Lauper was just WONDERFUL!!

    by Toni03 on 8/19/09Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

I saw Cyndi Lauper at Penn's Peak and she was just fantastic. The energy she had was contagious and I could not have expected anything better!! Almost a week later and I'm still talking about it!!
